My initial sketch of abstract dog and ox (Chinese zodiac)
    Anqi L.

I found Deanna Wardin after several weeks of online searching and after making contact with an artist in LA with whom it became increasingly clear (via texts) wasn't quite the right fit. I was looking for an artist to do my second tattoo, but my first was 10 years ago from a younger artist at Black & Blue who disappeared from the tattooing scene since. I was less concerned about timelines and price, more concerned about finding the right artistic fit. This time around, I was thinking of a larger format piece with watercolor highlights, and I had a general concept but needed an artist to really pull it together. Deanna was super responsive to my initial outreach and communicated clear timelines and expectations. I felt great about her attitude and energy when we had our video consult, and indeed, she was such a delight to work with in person. I booked two full day sessions. At the first session, I loved Deanna's design -- she had adhered really closely to a partial sketch I made, which felt like such a compliment. I was less sure about her initial color design, so we completed all the line work in that first session (about 5-5.5 hours actually under the needle). I followed up with some more clarity around what I thought I wanted to see in the color design -- Deanna was super receptive, not at all defensive, and totally upbeat about changes. At the second session, I loved Deanna's updated design. We spent about 10-20 minutes making some minor tweaks, and I love that Deanna is not shy about offering her artistic opinion in a diplomatic way. She finished the color and shading in about 3 hours. Meanwhile, everyone in the shop (other artists and other clients) during both of my sessions was super friendly, complimentary of each other's work, clearly just people who like to have a good time. I generally don't think of myself as someone who's really "cool" (ha, but seriously, am I 12?), but they felt like cool kids being super welcoming :) All in all, so thrilled to have landed here...and if in another 10 years I decide to add another piece, Deanna's top of my list to check back in!

My new fav tattoo! Thanks Stevie!

I'm so glad to have found a place to do my watercolor tattoo. After an extensive online search, Stevie emailed me back and we set up a consultation. I described to her the type of memorial I was looking to do to honor my best friend that had died in a car accident a few months prior. She listened carefully, took some notes, we had some jokes and then scheduled the actual session. The session was cool. Her vibes were cool and we all were in there talking about various tv shows and music. My tattoo came out better than expected!!! She was very attentive to not have it so Prince related as my idea was very similar to his iconic purple & symbol and Stevie nailed it! It's exactly what I wanted!

I was expecting malarkey however the experience was professional, opulent and tight af. I got my tattoo from "Shredder" aka Chris "Chrispy2tats" Peralta. I got a big tattoo on the tender of my back. Chris has the softest angel hands and I only squirmed a lil. My partner says my new tattoo is hawt and smooth. Would recommend. Would give 6 stars if possible.

    First tattoo by Deanna

I've gotten 2 pieces done by Deanna and it is always an amazing experience. Not only is Deanna herself super friendly and accommodating, but all the artists here are. For my last appointment, 3 of us were getting tattooed at the same time, and all 6 of us were in the same conversation, which made the time totally fly by. Shop is extremely clean and well taken care-of. Right next to a pizza place so your mouth will be watering the whole time. All of the very talented artists have high hourly rates, so bring your pocketbook, but trust me, they're worth every penny.

A close friend referred me to this shop and said that Chris is a great artist who is really experienced and good with cover ups, unfortunately for me that is not the case, I went there to get an old pin up I had in my forearm covered up with a black wolf or similar, I was never really impressed with Chris " drawing" skills but at that point I just wanted to get rid of my old tattoo, but after 2 sessions with Chris, and close to $1000 in hourly rates I ended up with a massive illegible black blob that no one even myself can tell what it is or what is supposed to be, by far the worst tattoo I have, and I have half of my body covered in tats, this dude Chris completely butchered my arm this piece cannot be fixed and I spent so much money on it, I wouldn't recommend this shop or " artist " to my worst enemy, now I have to spend either more money on laser this krap off my arm or to blackout my whole forearm, if you are reading this please go somewhere else, you have been warned.

This place is fucking awesome! I researched people and shops for a couple months for a watercolor tattoo before I decided on Katie. The consultation was easy and she took a ton of notes. I came in the day of my appointment and the drawing she had for me blew my mind, it was even more perfect than I envisioned. I was a wimp and Katie was sympathetic towards my whining lol. The entire session was laid back- the other artists and patrons were funny, joked around and just had some overall really cool conversation. The location doesn't hurt either. What can soothe the pain of a new tattoo better than a slice of North beach pizza?! Can't wait to get my next tattoo at this shop!!

Fresh tattoo by Mez at Tattoo Boogaloo
    Benji P.

I got tattooed here by Mez a couple years ago and it is by far the most quality tattoo I have on my body. The consultation we had was very quick and she immediately understood what I wanted, and was even very kind when I emailed her a week or so later asking for an addition to my piece. Their location is small, but hey it's SF. The day of my appointment, I came on time and she immediately showed me what she came up with and it looked fantastic so she stenciled me, encouraged me to take a good look and make sure it was placed perfectly, and then went to town on my arm. The piece took 3.5 hours to complete, which for how many details and intricate shading she put into it was a huge surprise. She had asked if I wanted to split it into two sessions- lineart one sesh then color another but I told her to keep going. She was great. I think at some point someone came in and asked to interview me which was kind of awkward but I guess that's irrelevant to this review. If you're thinking about getting tattooed please check this place out. On top of being rad af artists, a lot of them are women and we need to appreciate women in the tattoo industry more.

My very first tattoo here was done by Deanna, who owns the shop. She was wonderful and funny, made the process extremely painless and engaging. My ink that time was my back, which was in a watercolor style that she is known for! My second tattoo was with Katie, who helped me plant a simple line art anchor I designed..It came out perfect, I could not have asked for something better! :-) She was so funny and told me stories during the session, which only lasted 20min or so, but I had so much fun during! Really recommend Tattoo Boogaloo to anyone, the artists here are very fun and awesome and talented! They will make you feel at ease and super comfortable if it is your first tattoo, they are supremely patient and make sure you understand what is happening and that you get what you want!

"My heart is your forever" in Italian, by Deanna

I drove up from Azusa, Ca just to have Deanna work her beautiful magic on me. I don't know where I saw one of her pieces, online somewhere, but I fell in love. When I figured out where this wonderful artist was located, I knew it was meant to be. I had been thinking up a storm, trying to figure out how to fit the Golden Gate Bridge and my clockwork gear heart in one tattoo. I immediately started corresponding with Deanna through email, giving her ideas of what I wanted. After a few days we set a date to work it out on some skin. This tattoo means a lot to me and I had been thinking about it for about two years. It had to be done in San Francisco, after all it was San Francisco that stole my heart, and Deanna had the right stuff. I traveled just about 400 miles to get this tattoo and I am floored away with the results. Deanna did a beautiful job. The people at the shop are all so friendly and I'd definitely go back to get some more artwork done. It's worth the drive, they are ALL so talented. They have beautiful portfolios. Wonderful body jewelry to choose from. Deanna charges per hour, she's talented and knows what she's doing.

4 hour session, fresh, done by the so very awesome deanna

i'd give more stars if i could. I chose tattoo boogaloo for my next tat partly because of yelp, but mostly because of deanna's gallery. she does some dope work, and i knew i wanted her to do this one. we corresponded through email since i didn't want to make the drive out for the consultation. she is very nice. i used pics from around the internet to give her an idea of what i was looking for. her design was beyond anything i could've hoped for. she is very talented. and the price is very fair considering that talent--as they "say good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good". the neighborhood is very nice, lots of restaurants, parking is directly across the street from them. good location. get a tattoo, and make it a whole day in beautiful sf. the people in the shop were very cool. friendly atmosphere. for me, its the nearest place to get a quality tattoo. so i think i found my go to artist and shop

I had my septum pierced by Krista - she's super nice and walked me through everything. She was really nice and professional, and I'd gladly recommend this place. There was a problem though. Because of the structure of my nose, the piercing appears 'crooked' and because of that Krista asked me if I wanted to keep it or not. Because she wasn't happy with the way it looked, she offered me the piercing act plus the jewellery - so because my piercing is kind of crooked to a side, again, because of my septum's shape or structure or whatever, I walked out of there without having to pay for anything. To me that's a sign of professionalism, as she could have told me nothing and left me walk out of there taking my money. She did the opposite. Thanks Krista! (Also, she's super cute)

I had been looking for someone for two months to do what I had in mind. Each time someone would say "no you have to have someone who does robot parts!" Or some other thin veiled excuse. Not Tony. I've taken friends in the past to get piercings and tattoos here before, but my forearm sleeve with Tony was my first at Boogaloo. He was resourceful in utilizing the references I provided, he was fun and understanding while I was sitting there talking about boats to pass time (and pain), and Boogaloo in general has a very homey, kind, sincere, yet professional atmosphere while inside. Not to mention his shading work is incredible (if painful on the arm). Tony's only there two days out of the week, but my god am I happy I snagged him because this sleeve is coming out fantastically.

This place is amazing! I wanted to get my belly button pierced so I came with a friend that recommended the shop. I walked in and Krista gladly greeted us and helped me right away( no wait!) I brought in my own jewelry and asked if I could use that. Krista looked at it explained to me that it wasn't best for a fresh piercing for various reasons so I decided to buy one there. After signing paperwork we were on to the actual piercing! Since i'm a piercing noob, I was very nervous but excited at the same time. Krista did a great job at making sure I was comfortable, explaining to me what she was going to do, and making sure everything was sterile. Her and the rest of the staff were also very friendly and accommodating to my friend that came to support me. I couldn't help but give her a hug before I left! I was in and out in about 20- 30 minutes. I would definitely come back and would highly recommend this place!

I originally came in for a flash sale, but they overbooked and asked to move me to the following day. I let them know I would be out of town that morning, so they offered me the last appointment of the day and took my deposit. The next day, after reassessing my schedule, I realized I wouldn't be able to make it and informed them as soon as possible. I was told the deposit was non-refundable. I then asked if I could reschedule for another day, but they said no because it was part of the flash sale--even though the rescheduling was due to their overbooking. I also asked if the deposit could be applied toward a regular (non-flash sale) appointment, and that was declined as well. I ultimately kept the appointment, but the situation didn't sit well with me. While the artist did great work, I was disappointed in how the studio handled the booking and deposit policy.

Okay so 15 years ago I had surgery on my chest (keyword: transman, ftm, transguy, transgender male, you get the idea) and my nipples did not stay in tact. They actually feel off in front of me in the shower with the scabs. What a nightmare. Reconstructing new nipples was not possible or ideal with my surgeon so I've been living with flat nipples and discolored areolas for the last 15 years. I really thought I had NO hope until I found Sasha. Angels sing please, wait for it and rejoice. I've been wanting to do 3D nipple tattooing and areola re-pigmenting for awhile but was 1. not in the best state of health and 2. very very very nervous. Well today, we finally made this happen. I got an appointment schedule over a month in advance. I put down a $100 deposit via Pay Pal. I waited and panicked and then the big day came. I got a ride down to SF. Sasha's shop is on the 17th floor of a building in Union Square. There's a parking garage a block away. It cost $35 and gets you up to 12 hours in the lot. You are not going to find street parking so if you're driving you will want to fork out $35 and be happy your car is safe with only a block to walk! Sasha gave me complete instructions and directions ahead of time. She is VERY professional and organized with her scheduling and timing. The office she works out of is awesome! The entire office and outdoor patio (with wild beautiful birds and parrots might I add) has a total zen approach. The front desk folks were also REALLY NICE and totally trans/queer friendly. Sasha's room was very clean with a sitting area for guests. She was extremely polite, patient, compassionate and thorough to walk me through the ENTIRE process and 1. give me voice throughout it all and 2. check in frequently to see how I was doing. Nipple and areola shopping is quite fun! I got to pick the size, shape and color variation to design on my chest. Boom! I feel so Hollywood now ;) She is extremely sterile and showed me ALL the needles she was using before and as she was using them. Everything from the office, her station, the tattoo bed, frequent changing of gloves, packaged needles, organized ink palettes, fresh paper towels, rubbing alcohol, ETC were CLEAN. I really appreciated how intuitive she was like when I held my breath during bits of pain and she could feel me tense up and gently remind me to breathe. I was excited and anxious and nervous and emotional all at once but she eased me through EVERYTHING. May I also include she has a gentle hand so the needles don't feel like they are digging deeper than deep like some tattoo artists who put all their weight on their artistry hands. Pain level ... well this boy whimpered some but she did use some topical anesthetic after the skin had been broken into to help ease pain. It DID help some. My results, pre bandaging, were beautiful. The bandaging she used is really neat. It's waterproof and clear like a clear tape. I honestly can't stop staring at my new nips even if things are still bloody and bandaged up! I was given very detailed after care instructions which I will be meticulous about following. I can't wait to see the overall results. I'll be scheduling a touch up/follow up in a 1 1/2 months or so. I look forward to seeing her again! Cost breakdown for ME and what I got done: $700 total... that's $100 deposit then $450 the day of the tattoo and then I will pay $150 during our touch up + tip today and I'll tip again on the touch up. Don't forget to tip. Some artists will say you don't have to, don't listen! Tips for those new nips my friends! TIPS! 100% happy with my experience, actually happy is an understatement. I am enthralled like a unicorn catching rainbows and sprinkling glitter from the sky. Yes, indeed. I will recommend her in a HEARTBEAT to any other trans folks who need this procedure, cancer and mastectomy patients or just anyone in need of this kind of help. I was SO ASHAMED of my chest, a chest I fought so hard to learn to love post surgery but still deeply upset about what happened and the trauma from loosing my nipples to my feet in the shower (yikes, just imagine). Now I can live again. This is part 1 of my chest tattooing process (I'll be doing scar coverage with another artist since Sasha is not taking new decorative tattoo clients at this time) and then I will be free. You deserve to be free too. I hope you will consider Sasha and let her help you change your life, confidence and get your groove back!!!
