I have loved all of the artists at Seventh Son and followed from afar on social media for years! This shop truly has top notch talent. I was able to get a guest spot with a former artist of mine a little over four years ago and was in awe of how big the space was when I walked in. Fast forward to October 2023, when I decided to get a tattoo on a whim for my birthday. I was scrolling through Instagram early morning and saw that the shop reposted Jared's story that he had time on my actual birthday to tattoo. I took a leap and messaged and it ended up working out that our taste in art matched, so we confirmed an appointment to meet and get tattooed that same day. Upon meeting Jared at the shop, I was super excited to get tattooed. He was patient and kind and actually listened to my all over the place ideas. (I didn't really know what I wanted to get. I just knew I wanted to get tattooed.) We decided on the subject matter and I left for 45 minutes so he could draw something up for me. The entire time I was in the shop, I felt welcomed by him and everyone else who was there that day. My review is based on my experience working with Matt Leibo, as well as the other staff members I have met in passing. I came to Matt with a large tattoo idea for my thigh/hip region. It was a simple idea, as it consisted of one mythical creature (kitsune) and one kind of flower (peonies). While I did present Matt with the style I wanted as well as a few reference photos, I left a lot of creativity and trust in him. He took my idea and crafted it into a one-of-a-kind piece. He also spent a lot of time in the beginning making sure that it fit the natural curvature of my body. While he was tattooing me, he frequently checked up on me to ask how I was doing. It's been 2 months since we've completed the piece (I think a total of 3-4 sessions), and it has healed so nicely! The other staff members seem very welcoming and friendly. They help each other make design decisions, which is very cool. All of them are very very talented! Although the waitlists might seem long and the prices may seem high, keep in mind that you are investing into custom artwork that will be on your body forever. I have been following her on Instagram for awhile and she had a last minute cancellation so I got in two days later. I emailed her some ideas, she was very responsive and made some little tweaks and added a moth (love moths!). On the day of, she had two different options for me to pick from and was very prepared. Orly's approach is more of consultation of what you want then the he will try to carve out some time in his already busy schedule to get you on the table and inked. Freehand I believe is the method he uses, red ink for the basic outline and from there the artist comes out. Two session of about 4 hours total put in to begin my right leg from the knee to ankle sleeve, the center and right hand side is now complete, just need to come back and finish some lettering on the back of my calf and what ever will flow to finish up the left hand side of my right shin. I'm super glad I found this place! Luke Stewart is the owner and I'd have to say, he is a very humble and talented artist. It was definitely worth the wait. Everyone in the shop is nice and friendly. I have to commute from Santa Clara to San Francisco and to me it's worth the drive. I'm so happy with my results. It took me a long time to find an artist that could fulfill my tattoo expectations. I would highly recommend Luke for all your traditional Japanese tattoos. He did my Crane sleeve on my left arm with the expectations of doing my right arm sleeve as well. I get compliments all the time on my sleeve. I've had other tattoos done in the past when I was younger and I regret them all. Which is why I'm glad I took the time to do my research and the money spent is well worth it. You definitely get what you pay for. My kids aren't allowed to get tattoos until after the age of 25 because when you're young and dumb, you don't know any better! Lol Just sayin! I tell Luke he is my artist/psychiatrist all in one because he has good advice and we have interesting conversations considering that we have to spend a few hours at a time for each session. You kill 2 birds with one stone! Plus he is very gentle and he always checks on me to make sure I'm doing okay. He even offered me food during my first session because I haven't eaten for the last 5 hours but he just wanted to make sure I wouldn't pass out. But I was fine. It's not painful to me. My bicep area was probably the only time it was most tender. Maybe I have a high tolerance for pain and I'm not scared of needles. It's because I've had kids! Haha Nothing is worse than labor! The healing process is very itchy and is the only part I can't stand because I want to scratch soo bad but I can't so I'm constantly slapping my arm and looking like a crazy person. I've used H2Ocean Moisturizing Foam and it helps calm the itching down and so does ice. If you run out of that, coconut oil helps the healing process too. Luke will also spray some Bactine to kind of numb the area. Keep in mind, it can be quite a challenge finding parking. I usually schedule for a couple hours on Saturdays and find street parking without meters. If it's more than a couple hours I schedule on weekdays at a late time so that after 6pm it's free. I'm excited to see what he draws up for me on my right arm for I am extremely happy with my left. I have yet to take a final picture of the finished product but if you're looking for a tattoo artist, Luke's the man! You won't regret it!! read more

I have been going to Seventh Son Tattoo for over a year. The staff are kind and knowledgeable. I found the shop through a visiting artist but quickly developed a professional relationship with Andrew Mann. He is extremely gifted and consistently available and open to new projects. The first thing we worked on was completing a project I started in Boston. Given the cost of travel for a tattoo, it made no sense to finish in Boston and he graciously agreed to complete the sleeve before starting an original piece. The piece was tricky because he and the original artist had slightly different styles but he successfully blended the parts to maintain consistency. I read another post criticizing Andrew for a consultation but I have never experienced this with Andrew. He is an artist and knows what will look good on a person and tells you the brutally honest truth if your idea isn't going to look good. I appreciate an artist who knows their trade and gives constructive feedback. If you are looking for an artist who will give you a tattoo that doesn't have good placement or doesn't flow well, this is not the shop for you. The artists regularly work together and share ideas and feedback. I feel that review was unfair because they did not ultimately get tattooed by him. Andrew is now completing another piece for me. As usual, he is consistently on time, prepared, and focused throughout the project. He asks for feedback and listens and acts upon it. Went in to another tattoo shop to make an appointment to get my tattoo fixed right after I got my tattoo from here. Artist seemed distracted. He didn't put in as much quality work on my piece than his other clients. Very disappointed. Color wasn't even. Even after touching it up. Asked about it and was told it's because of my skin but I have many other tattoos from other artists including a half sleeve and never had to get a touch up and the color is still amazing after years. Many (ok, well 3) friends mentioned/raved about Seventh Son, so picking a place was the easy part. Now the actual tattoo, I've changed my mind twice, maybe three times about what I'd get for the first tattoo. I had my eye on something from the artist Luke Chueh, but then still haven't figured that out (where it would go/how big etc). I've wanted a SF line map grid type of I don't know what for a while, but also couldn't quite figure it out. So.. I went with something simple. What grown ass woman gets a big ass Hello Kitty bow on her. This one! Judge all you want. I love it! I was thinking about it for a while. No special meaning, but I just loved it and knew where I wanted it. Big ass bow on my forearm.. you can' t miss it. A birthday present to myself. Following their aftercare instructions. So far so good.. Note to self - cut your damn nails and don't flail your arms wildly around.. Yep. I was actually going in to make an appointment. I knew it was going to be a super simple tattoo, but I actually did look through some books. I mean, it IS forever. insert the Sandlot's *FOR EVER.. FOR EVER..* chant.. I really liked Gordon's work. I think it was some elaborate parasol or something of that nature, and his linework was just absolutely beautiful. So, I set aside his book, and in my head I was like "this guy!" And, low and behold, he happened to be free. I actually didn't know it was him, till I asked him his name.. embarrassing! I mean I did stare at the damn site for a while and still didn't remember what anyone looked like. Anyways, how lucky was I? I ended up leaving to grab some coffee aka wake up/get less nervous. I mean I was ready, but didn't think I'd do it so early. I came back and someone else dropped in, so I waited around for a little while (read: started sweating profusely through my palms while listening to the constant buzzing..). I watched them clean the area very thoroughly, and then I was up. I may have made some Sandra Bullocks Gravity noises.. Sweaty palms, yo.. He made me feel super comfortable though, and asked me if I was ok throughout the whole process. First tattoo and all.. It hurt, but was not unbearable. This other woman was getting her side tattooed, and another was adding to her sleeve.. They both looked so zen, so I felt like a wuss.. *clenches teeth.. Some areas were more sensitive than others, but half an hour later, I was done. Super fast. They are so skilled here, but they didn't make me feel like my bow was insignificant. I've been going to Luke Stewart for 3.5 years now to do sporadic work on a full back piece that he drew for me. He's extremely talented and fast, as well as light-handed with the gun. I always heal within a week. The older I get, the more sensitive/impatient I have become. He makes it comfortable and motivates me to finally finish my beast (it's a very large dragon). Pricing is fair, you get what you pay for; the shop is really clean and full of art. Luke is the only person I've gone to for work, but the rest of the staff is cool/talented too. This review is long overdue! But what better time to write it than coming up on my one year anniversary of getting my little bit of ink? In search of a great place for my first (and probably only) tattoo, I of course turned to Yelp. I had double the responsibility, because my sister and I were both going to get them on the same day; matching ones at that. Seventh Son was the highest rated spot, with the most reviews (I'm adventurous when it comes to restaurants, but wanted to play it safe on this...). So, I called Seventh Son, and booked an appointment with Greg Rojas due to the glowing recommendation the guy who answered the phone gave him. Also, because they're so popular, you're going to need to call in advance (Give them a few weeks? Maybe more). A couple other tips - they're a $100 minimum, and cash only. Anyway, of course we were a little nervous, but the staff made it better by being really friendly, approachable, professional, and interested in our tattoos. And Greg was so great! He kept us entertained with stories and questions, and didn't get annoyed at all of the pics Sister and I took of each other's experience. I think each tattoo only took 45 minutes to an hour. Most important though, his work was flawless! I've had a lot of people tell me that it's really well done, and that the lines are sharp. I'm really happy with it. Compared to some other shops, I think this one is a little pricey, but it's really worth it. This isn't a pair of jeans that you can return! Be smart, pay a little more, and later on you will be so happy you did. And don't forget to tip! read more

The artist that I went to, Miss Juliet, is an absolute gem of a person and an incredible artist. When I initially emailed her, she responded quickly, sweetly, and professionally. I've been admiring her art for a while and I was not disappointed in the least bit! In this first session, we got more done than I expected, as Juliet is quick and gentle enough to make the session easy. I'm looking forward to my next session with her and I plan on having her do more work for me after that. So one random day I decided I needed a new tattoo- the size of my forearm. I went to one place where the guy seriously made it his job to be difficult and tell me a tattoo that big (even though all black) couldn't be done same day. I called seventh son around 6 pm and they said to come on over. I told the guy what I wanted, he drew it up, and went to town. The artist I had was a visiting artist from NYC, so he's not normally there, but everyone in the place had someone and there were a lot of pleased customers. Best part- it was the cleanest, most spacious and most modern tattoo shop I've ever stepped foot in from Portland to NYC. I wanted to live there. After just two sessions with Jeff, I've had a number of compliments with an incomplete sleeve. Seventh Son isn't your normal tattoo studio. This place isn't for someone who is looking for the "cheap tattoo". They are all professionals and, some, of the best tattoo artists I have ever seen. If you are in a hurry to get a tattoo or have little patience to wait a couple of months to get an appointment. Then Seventh Son isn't for you. These artists are in high demand and have only so much time for get everyone. As for Jeff Croci, I have nothing but awe and respect for his skill as an artist. I came in with just an idea for a sleeve. When my 1st session came, Jeff took my idea and blew it up. We had decided to cover up my existing tattoo to make the final sleeve more uniformed. Honestly, I did have some reservations at the time but after the 1st hour I knew Jeff was the right choice for the sleeve. With each session 2.5hours, there are times when I wished if I could stay longer and get more of the sleeve done. But I like best about Jeff is that he is, honestly, invested in getting the best results possible. In the end, Seventh Son is, by far, the best tattoo studio in the Bay Area. If you are looking to get ink this studio should be on your list to visit. If money is an issue for you, don't come here.... Money should never be a factor in getting ink'd!!! I just had my first experience at Seventh Son this past Saturday (7/31/10). I got a carnivorous plant tattoo done by Nick Chaboya. This was a fantastic experience! Nick's schedule fills up fast, so I made my appointment in April. He had quoted me between 8 and 10 hours for what I wanted so it was good to be able to save up the money during the months in between when I booked and when I actually got it. Anyway, I went in and Nick got started. As everyone has noted on these reviews, the shop is super clean and everyone in there is doing amazing work. So Nick explained each step thoroughly as he went, and the tattoo ended up only taking 3 hours!! He burned through it and it looks better than I could have even imagined! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. What Nick brings to the table as an artist is really unparalleled. His ability to use color and shading techniques really produce the most realistic image you could ask for. He also really understands how the image will fit on your body. He didn't even see my forearm or do any measurements and the image he created fit perfectly. He adjusted the artwork I provided slightly to make it work and it was exactly what I wanted. After all was said and done, Nick cleaned and wrapped the tattoo and gave me my instructions for taking care of it. I really cannot overstate how clean the tattoo was; it has been extremely easy to take care of and I can tell that the healing process is going to go well. Erik Rieth is fantastic. He took the ramblings of someone without an artistic bone in his body and translated them into something beautiful. His work is not limited to tattooing, as he uses other media as well to express his talent. That made me feel a lot more comfortable and excited about the piece I was getting as it gave a greater sense of depth to the work. Whether you spend 3 hours or 30 hours on the table, you never seem to think about the fact that you are going to be face to face with a complete stranger. Erik is very professional and makes you feel comfortable throughout the process. He is motivated to produce high quality work every time. Of the 24 plus waking hours I spent in the shop getting ink from him he was always focused on his work, but still relaxed and easy to get along with. Seventh Son is extremely clean and organized. All the artists seem cool and friendly. There is an open floor plan so artists are always wandering around checking out what is being worked on and giving opinions.
