The owner refuses to return calls and the office email is just a robo. Unprofessional way of doing business. I recently needed a tow for my car, from my home (dead in the garage) to the repair shop. While checking with my auto insurance folks at State Farm about towing insurance, they suggested that I allow State Farm to schedule the tow. They had done this often with Tatman Towing in Urbana, who would schedule the pickup time, and send the bill directly to State Farm. I would need no money for the tow, nor need to file a claim. Tatman was on time, transported my car safely, and sent the bill to State Farm. The tow driver was friendly and helpful. Best of all, I never saw a bill. It could not have been easier. I locked myself out of my car and I called tatmans and they were very nice over the phone with quotes and their information. I had to Uber back to where I was and I was a little bit late to meeting them and they were totally understanding and didn't seem bothered at all. Travis helped me a lot and he was super kind throughout the whole process and when I had an issue with the bank when I went to pay, he waited for me for 20 minutes with complete sympathy and understanding. The only thing that I don't love was the price which was $145 but that was because it's a $4 per mile outside of their area and I was 10 miles out. I know that they don't really have sway with the price, but that was just really annoying. read more

I moved to Central Illinois which is rural enough is it is, but I ended up renting a house in between Champaign and Bloomington Illinois, will plan to go to University Of Illinois in Champaign Urbanna. My car battery, which I've only had for a couple or a few years, was a AAA replacement battery. And it has been very unreliable. And probably in the last year, I have had to call AAA at least three or four times for a jumpstart because my battery likes to be completely dead. (Interstate batteries or worth the extra money). Anyhow, everybody from Tatmans towing has simply been amazing and kind and empathetic. And I'm extremely grateful for that. Being stranded in an even more rural area than I have ever lived in my life, has been stressful enough, but you add the pandemic to it, and it is been a really horrible experience. Especially when you go out to your car and your battery won't turn your engine over because it's dead. So, the crew who works at Tatmans towing are my Heros. And I think Heros for many people who live in Central Illinois. Every driver who has shown up to help me has just been incredibly kind and has saved me from being on the edge of utter despair! Be AWARE! This company will try everything they can to deny your AAA claim. Don't choose this company if you are a minority. They assume you are stupid and will bully you without any hesitation. I was stranded in a wet driveway. My front tyres lost momentum but my rear tyres were on perfect solid surface. Since I don't have a AWD, I have to call AAA. After one hour's of waiting, a guy came driving a beefy 4*4 truck. He told me my AAA claim was denied because my car was too far from the roadside. How ridiculous! Then he gave me an quote of $400 to tow my car: $200 for them to come and $200 for using their skid steer. What? Why would you even use a skid steer? I told him his truck is more than enough to pull my car for about 1 feet. But he refused because "it is unsafe" for him. It was dark and cold and I had no option but to pay. Then I waited for another hour for a skid to arrive. It was beyond stupid to just watch a steer skid spending 2 second to move my car. I was ripped off $400 dollar. This is definitely the worst company I have ever seen by bullying minorities to earn money. Stay away from them! read more

Wow! Super-friendly, very professional and extremely knowledgeable. We had a huge tire blowout near closing time for most of the tire service centers. We do not live in the city, so needed to get the car to a tire place in order to head home. Cody with Tatman's was there quickly and got us to a nearby repair shop just in time. Hands down the most unprofessional business I've ever been to. After totaling my car due to a semi pulling out in front of me, and six hours at the ER, all I wanted to do was grab my wallet and the keys to my apartment from my car so I could go home. I was greeted by a horribly rude woman who informed me that I could not go near the car until insurance was there. I was not in the mood to deal with it so left, thankfully my boyfriend had a spare key. The next morning i called and asked when i would be able to grab my things. I was told by the same woman I could get them after insurance was there, OR after I paid $500 for the towing/storage fee. Excuse me, WHAT?! For MY keys and wallet? Thankfully after a couple hours and several phone calls, my parents were able to talk some sense into them and I was able to get my keys...she was just as unpleasant the second time we went back but at least I got my stuff. I will NEVER use them. Or recommend them. read more

Started out with a call through AAA and Tatmans responded (in 20 mins they arrived) and jumped our Jeep. (i'm from out of town and was at my daughters house) Service guy (i forgot his name AHHH!) said your battery is shot- get it replaced ASAP. Well we shut it off and it was dead AGAIN. ANOTHER call to AAA and Tatmans came back out with the battery and swapped out the old for the new. The guy was fantastic and took the time to explain everything. Missy was great on the phone in helping us get the correct battery and driver back out to get us going. Highly recommend calling whether you have AAA or not. Reading other reviews, it appears that I am not the only one with good things to say about Mike Grice and Tatman's Towing. My car went dead on I-74 during rush hour, not exactly the place you want to be when you have car trouble. Called into Tatman's for a jump and Mike came out quickly. He was speedy, professional, and seemed to be genuinely interested in making sure I was going to get where I needed to go. After placing the jumper pack on my battery, Mike told me he didn't think my car would get far so he'd follow me until I was off I-74. He was right as I probably made it 1,000 feet before my car died again. He then proceeded to give me options, but left me to make the decision without being pushy towards one opinion or another and I appreciated that. Mike towed my car in after dropping me at home first. A bad situation could not have been handled better. If you find yourself on the side of the road, call Tatman's. If you're lucky, Mike Grice will be there to help you out. read more

This is one of the best tow services I have ever experienced. Not only did he urge that I sit inside the warm truck while he was pulling my car out of the ditch but he detailed the rates and the procedure before he even did anything and got my consent on every step. Unlike other tow companies that insist you have to take it to a certain location and then charge you $700. I felt that my car could still drive cause I just had 7 miles to the exit I was supposed to take before the accident occurred, so aI insisted that I try and drive it and he let me while tailing me to make sure I was still safe. I've used these guys a couple times in the past and was not impressed. Today, they ensured that I will never use them again. As I was waiting for the light to turn green at I-74 eastbound on ramp x cunningham/45, a Tatman's tow truck #T-8 drove right through the red light. I laid on the horn to indicate my displeasure. As I proceeded south on cunningham, I observed him go around cars using the left turn lane and blow through a second red light. He did the same thing at the stoplight at Freedom Oil. I couldn't see what he did at Perkins Road because of a box truck that entered my path. At University Avenue, I wound up next to him. He apparently decided running the light at University was just too risky. I gave him the evil eye and he rolled down his window to tell me that he's in a hurry. I gave Tatman's and told the unpleasant woman there what had happened. She stated that their tow trucks are permitted to run red lights when on the way to an accident. I was pretty sure that is not the case, so I called Champaign Police and visited Urbana Police and confirmed that towtrucks are afforded no special rights under the IVC with regard to red lights. If you want to support a company that tolerates their employees breaking the law and endangering others, then you'll want to use these guys. If not, go elsewhere. read more
