Today was my second visit to Franklin Bakehouse, and it instantly reminded me why I loved it so…read moremuch the first time, years ago, when I came for brunch with a friend. The staff were patient and helpful as I asked questions and considered all my options. I had forgotten that they brew Nashville's own 8&R spresso!! Their 16oz drinks come with four shots - coffee lovers like me will appreciate the strength! Most of their syrups are Monin, I think maybe I saw 1 housemade. What really sets this place apart is the charming farmer's market-style vibe. Besides food, coffee and fresh-baked pastries, they offer their own delicious sourdough and focaccia loaves to go, and a very thoughtful selection of local items - like organic Amish eggs ($6/dozen - unreal price right now and I saw they reuse the cartons/place to return them - heartwarming), bone broths, small-batch sauces, and so much more. I loved spotting a whole shelf of Republic of Tea bags, sold individually so you can sample new flavors before committing to a full tin. You can tell everything is chosen with care both in quality and with a community focus. Franklin Bakehouse is one of those places that just makes you feel good the moment you walk in. It def helped to see and pet some pups too (I assume they are welcome as there were some inside when I arrived).

Truthfully, about a 3 star review is fair. The food was…read moregood, not the greatest but good. The coffee was very limited, but they did have other bottled drink options which helped. It's a good place to go when you're wanting a fast grab and go with a black coffee. We decided to try the custom breakfast sandwich and got the ham with egg and cheese on sourdough. Overall, the sandwich was tasty. The hot pocket looking pastry was actually great, but the cinnamon peach "French toast" was not the best, it was okay in terms of flavor but overall a little underdone and dry. On top of that, I would say the service was very mediocre. Cashier seemed a little rude, and when leaving we realized no one picked up the order number that needs to be placed on the table once ordered, when trying to return it to someone before walking out everyone was just in a circle talking and no one acknowledged that I was trying to return this table number. So that really was a cherry on top of the environment of this place. Definitely a mid level experience.

Tried the peanut butter chocolate in a mini size and it was the perfect late afternoon snack. Service Employee let us take our time to look over the many different cupcakes options. She was a joy to speak to, also. Ambiance Place appeared closed when we walked in but the employee ensured us they were open lol. I advise you to get there early because it was slim pickings in the aftermath. Would I go back? Absolutely!

As luck would have it, we celebrated my mother-in-law's 80th birthday with a towering custom cake from IveyCake. And let me tell you. Owner Ivey Childers makes a mean cake! They are literally works of art made by a creative decorator who demands perfection and uses the finest ingredients. The cake is very dense, what our family considers to be the ultimate texture for a cake. The frosting is super thick and very sweet. You can't eat too much at one time, which is probably a good thing. We had hoped for some sort of confirmation email to let us know the cake was finished. So we showed up on faith alone hoping the cake was ready for our celebration, and there it was! Whew! And not only will IveyCake create your beautiful custom cake, but they even sell cupcakes and small cakes on a daily basis in their adorable little shop. Go check them out!

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had thumbprint cookies. I'm a huge fan of thumbprint cookies. There's something so nostalgic about them from when I was a child. What makes their thumbprint cookies the best is that they make them with caramel! Most bakeries don't sell thumbprint cookies and that ones that do, I've never seen them with caramel. These are little amazing nuggets of goodness! If their shortbread was a little more tender, it would probably be the #1 bakery item, I've ever had. The magic is in the caramel! It's so soft, gooey and perfectly sweet. It's the perfect pairing with the lightly sweetened shortbread. Since I had the cookies, I haven't stopped thinking about them. Came back into town for the day with my kids and I made sure this was our first stop! I will give you a heads up that the parking is a little funky, but nothing major. I'll be back soon!
