If you've ever visited the Pike Place Market in the summer you've most likely experienced the crush of humanity that is the main arcade and if you're a local like me, you know how to play what can best be described as a human version of Frogger...dodging baby strollers, rubber neckers and the next Art Wolfe in order to reach your short list of places to visit. I feel your pain.
With this in mind, I've designed a walking food tour of the Pike Place Market that is both entertaining and informing. It combines stories of the rich cultural history, colorful characters and artisan food purveyors with delicious food samples from the best places not found in the claustrophobic vortex called the main arcade.
If you're a local your probably thinking why would I take a tour of the Pike Place Market ? I've been going to or avoiding that place for years. Well, from my experience of leading tours you're most likely missing out on some great culinary treasures. For example did you know the best turkey sandwich in Seattle is served only 3 days a week at the Crumpet shop? If you knew that and need a job send me an email, I could use another insider.
So here is what you do, next time you have friends or family visiting from out of town book them on a tour and tag along. This will provide you with the appropriate cover and provide you with a great opportunity to take advantage of this overlooked culinary treasure we call "The Market".
If you're not a local and you plan on visiting Seattle and Pike Place Market then you should definitely sign up ASAP, you will benefit from it immensely. Instead of wondering around getting in the locals way, you be playing frogger with the rest of us plus you'll be armed with useful information that will help spend your time more wisely.
Happy Travels and remember the best way to experience a culture is through its local cuisine.
