I absolutely loved my class at the Gourmandise School! It was such a fun and unique way to learn, and I loved how hands-on the whole experience was. The instructors were so knowledgeable, friendly, and really made the class enjoyable. I learned a ton and left feeling inspired to cook more at home. Honestly, I think Gourmandise is the best cooking school in town and I highly recommend taking a class here. Such a fun experience!

The class taught us…read morehow to make several Spanish dishes including Spinach and Manchego Croquetas, Pan Con Tomate and Jamon Serrano, Tortilla Espagnola, and Pork Belly with Membrino Glaze. I'll be completely honest. I was not excited about taking this class. I hate cooking food as much as I love eating it. But the wife dragged me out here anyway. So what's my verdict? As my rating indicates, I was completely wrong about this class. It was a fun experience from start to finish. Chef May did a fantastic job walking us through how to prepare each dish before releasing us to our own individual stations, easing my concern that I would screw things up. When we needed any assistance, she was right there to jump in and provide support. I would be amiss if I didn't mention the best part of the class which is eating the food we made. Every dish was delicious. I especially loved the Pan Con Tomate and Jamon Serrano, and Pork Belly with Membrino Glaze. I would definitely recommend taking a class here. If they could make a guy like me who hates cooking enjoy the experience, they must be doing something right. We'll be back very soon for an encore. We're signed up for the Pan Pizza class. Looking forward to it!

Five days later and no contact from Pam. I was so excited to take my mister to their Father's Day class. We're empty nesters and this was meant to be a special treat for both of us. He's not big on cooking classes but the posted menu was appealing and I promised to do all the heavy lifting. Ribeye Steak -- thought we'd learn some new techniques to elevate our steak prep game. Mexican Street Corn Dip and Homemade Tater Tots -- summer corn is a family favorite and the thought of making homemade tater tots was intriguing. Smash Burger Sliders -- wanted to learn to consistently nail that crispy exterior. Inexplicably, we were paired with another pair -- a single dad with an 8 yo kid. Neither the mister nor I wanted this but we didn't want to make a scene or hurt anyone's feelings. We didn't even realize we were paired with them until the chef pointed out that our mise en place tray was setup for four. Why?? 1. The Mexican Street Corn Dip which I think was supposed to be an appetizer, was completely omitted. However, we did make a grilled corn salad as part of the meal. There was no appetizer served when we arrived. 2. Instead of homemade tater tots we made potato wedges. 3. The team we were paired with was lovely. However the class was well beyond their skill level. So instead of taking on the bulk of the work for 2 people, I did the bulk of the prep for 4 people. The course description says there may be seasonal substitutions but these substitutions utilized the same core ingredients. This was more work than I anticipated and left me feeling a bit overwhelmed and behind schedule. This threw the timing off and my mister enjoyed his steak alone while I was still standing at a hot stove prepping food for 4 people. Not the fun afternoon of "us" time I'd envisioned. Overall this was a subpar experience in so many areas that mattered to us. Left me personally disappointed and apologizing to my mister for the poor planning and execution. Could have spent the same amount of money without the hour+ drive and had a better experience.

Teaching: classes are structured and run on time. Teachers are fantastic and patient, especially with new students. Most of the classes are paired off in groups which means individual instruction and supervision is minimal so unless you're looking for something more formal with extremely tailored feedback, a private session is likely better versus a group setting. Other Comments: this was likely a one-off incident, but at a class I attended. I was disappointed with the assistant (Stephanie). As the class was winding down and desserts were being handed, for some reason, she served herself and ate before completing distribution so there were several attendees who didn't receive their desserts (which they paid for!). It was bizarre and unprofessional, which was weird given that she had been helpful and attentive throughout the class so I don't know what happened. She also seemed not to have budgeted well and hadn't purchased enough ingredients, especially for the dessert, which may be another reason for why we ran out so fast at this particular class.

i recently signed up for the harvest pasta night a few weeks ago to celebrate my boyfriend's…read morebirthday. we'd both been talking about wanting to learn a little bit more about cooking for a while now, so i thought it would be such a fun experience to actually get to handmake pasta together. and honestly, it was SUCH a fun experience! from the moment we got started, everything felt really organized and welcoming. we were given aprons with little name tags, which i thought was such a nice touch since you're working with other people and it makes it a lot easier to remember everyone's names. in a class of about 8 or so, we were split up into two groups to prep our courses. we also went through a thorough handwashing before getting started, and throughout the class they reminded us to continue washing our hands since we were working hands-on with the food. we were allowed to take pictures too, which i really appreciated because of course i wanted to document the pasta we made by hand! we didn't really know what to expect going in, but the class ended up being such a great time. chef will and chef zach were both such great teachers, and the energy throughout the class was really fun and welcoming. they had a lot of the ingredients already portioned out and prepped for us, which i think helped keep everything moving since the class was only around two hours. but we still got to learn some of the actual techniques, like properly chopping and preparing different ingredients, so it didn't feel like everything was just done for us. as i mentioned, because of the size of the class, we were paired up with two other people to help make our dishes, which i actually really enjoyed. it made the whole thing feel a little more social and was a fun way to meet other people while we cooked. there's also a break during the class where you can take some time to peruse the store, and they offer little complimentary coffees made by one of the machines they sell. i also really appreciated that even though some of the dishes called for meat, they were able to help us make a meat-free version so that i could still fully participate and enjoy what we were making. and the food was soooo good! everything we made was delicious, and honestly, some of the dishes were things i probably wouldn't have typically ordered for myself at a restaurant. getting to actually make them ourselves made me appreciate them so much more. i was also surprised by how much food we ended up making because the portions were way bigger than i expected. by the end of the class, i was actually pretty full! overall, this was such a fun experience and definitely a different way to spend a birthday celebration. i went in not really knowing what to expect and left already thinking about what class i'd want to sign up for next. i would absolutely do another class like this!
