Incredible food, staff, and vibe!! We attended a private event for a cousin's birthday and it was perfect! The party was held downstairs in a private room and there was adequate space for ~35 people with a DJ and a dance floor in the middle of the room. Drinks tasted great and were STRONG. I had a spicy margarita and a regular marg and both were winners. For appetizers, we had family style empanadas, filet mignon meatballs, and boquerones. All were delicious but the winner for me was the empanadas. Next course was Tasca's Abuelita salad which was served individually. The greens were fresh and the salad was dressed very well. For my main, I had the Churrasco Argentinean (grilled skirt steak, yucca fries and field greens, Caribbean mojo and cilantro chimichurri) which was to die for. Be me: Call at 8:30 to ask when the kitchen closed. First I hear 9:30. Then she corrects herself to 10:30- we are on speaker- My guy asks, "What time does the kitchen close?" She says 10. We all heard it. Confirmed it too! We come from the East Side in a blizzard and get there at 9:40 -- in a non-challant voice, Ellie says sorry - we can't feed you- kitchen is closed. I even asked ahead of time if they take Blackbird Pay. They do. I covered every base. Apparently Tasca can't manage to cover theirs. And the cherry on top? "I didn't know you were coming." It's a restaurant. People come. That's the whole point. If you close at 9:30, say 9:30. Don't give different answers and then act confused when customers show up based on what you told them. Train your hosts. Or at least teach them the hours. I can't even imagine the food or service if the point of entry is so bad. read more

Had a great experience at Tasca last weekend! We came here for an early dinner before going to a concert in the city. Tasca is a short walk to Central Park (west side) in an early with many great restaurants but this one has a menu that piqued our interest. We decided to share a few of the small plates - the Scallop special with a pineapple salsa, the octopus and the croquette maduras. Everything we tried excellent!! Yes, they were small plates but packed full with flavor and different textures. For dessert, we split the Coconut Tres Leches - I am not a coconut person at all. I typically avoid anything with coconut as I don't like the flakiness of it but this was gooood. The coconut was subtle. Plus, quite a few of the items on the dessert menu had coconut so it was hard to avoid it. The ambiance was pleasant. You walk in to a bar with some tables around the perimeter and then walk up about 5 or 6 stairs to the main dining area. There's also a downstairs dining area but it was not being used when I went since we had an early dinner. Service was quick and our server was helpful with the menu. My friend and I had a Restaurant Week dinner here, and were both very happy. If you want the Restaurant Week menu, everyone at your table has to order it. We both started with the shrimp, mushroom, and garlic appetizer ("Setas y Gambas"). It was delicious. It came with a crusty sourdough bread and both of us used the bread to soak up every morsel of the sauce. I had the chicken pearls entree ("Perlas de Pollo"), and when I asked what "chicken pearls" were, the waiter said they were small pieces of chicken wrapped around a special cheese rather like blue cheese. Reader, there was no cheese. As I look at the on-line menu now, I see that the description says chicken pearls sauteed in garlic, lemon, white wine, bay leaves, topped with saffron rice and grape tomatoes. I think all of those listed items were in the sauce, and it was definitely tasty, but I would have liked the promised cheese (which would have added some extra flavor and probably would have induced me to add the fifth star to the rating). My friend had the Churrasco as her entree, which was grilled sliced skirt steak over yucca fries and field greens with Caribbean mojo and cilantro chimichurri. She enjoyed it. It was a generous portion and she took quite a bit home. For dessert, I had the passionfruit sorbet, which I loved. It came with two scoops. She had the tres leches cake, which was less sweet and gooey than it usually is. Not sure if that's a plus or a minus - I guess it depends on the extend of your sweet tooth. We'll probably go back. Service was good except that it took at least 10 minutes to get someone to come give us the check and we were slightly late to the show we wanted to see as a result. Wheelchair accessibility note: There are several stairs up to the main part of the dining room, and there is a well-camouflaged wheelchair lift that gets one there. I say well camouflaged because if I hadn't been looking for it, I would have missed it entirely. Furniture is stored inside and egress at the upper level is blocked by two huge trees. I asked whether the lift was functional and was told that it was and that all of the obstacles were moved aside when the lift needed to be used. Came here on a quiet 4th of July weekend. The place was pretty empty. Stopped by for their happy hour and had a sangria-which was well balanced, margarita-which packed a bunch, croquette-which was crispy and well presented but wasn't overly keen on the filling and preferred the empanada. My husband and I went to Tasca last night for the first time. The service was impeccable, which should be a given, but in so many restaurants it is not. They replaced our flatware after the appetizers, even though we hadn't used them, and they wiped down the table. They were refilled our water and checked on us throughout the evening. The food was delicious. My husband had the steak special and I had the shrimp. We had the ham appetizer, which was pricey, but superb. For drinks, my husband had sangria and I had a specially cocktail - we didn't find the drinks to be anything special, but they were ok. Today, a new manager greeted us by brusquely stating we had nine minutes left in happy hour. Nothing was happy. The staff looked depressed The portions were tiny. My shrimp tasted acidic. My husband's cheeseboard lacked the fruit it once carried and there was barely any cheese. When we brought this to the manager's attention, he shrugged. My friends and I came to dinner on a Sunday night. We had made a reservation at around 7pm which may not have been strictly necessary as the restaurant was not too busy at that time. We were warmly greeted by the staff and led to our table immediately after arriving. This restaurant is very nice-- there is a dimly lit, moody, soft energy to it with exposed brick on the walls reminiscent of a wine cellar. I can see this place being perfect for a date: romantic, a little mysterious, and elevated. Our server was really attentive of our table and was very knowledgeable of the drinks and specials available for the day. My friend ordered an Oceanographer as a cocktail which he highly recommended, while I got a glass of the Albariño white wine which was very dry and sharp in the best way possible. For food I tried: - Pulpo a la parrilla: our waiter explained that they had different sizes available for that day (3 oz, 6 oz, and 8oz). We decided to split a 6oz between 4 and it was honestly a very good size to each get a generous taste of the dish. I was windblown at how flavorful and well cooked this was. The octopus was not chewy and had the perfect tenderness to it. The flavor was divine, there was a hint of smokiness, some heat, and some umami components. The octopus was balanced out by a refreshing bed of tangy and citrus greens with the sweetness of the beets. Highly recommend this one. - Sea bass: one of the specials of the day that immediately caught my attention when I heard about it. This came with two perfectly cooked, buttery, flaky filets of sea bass. The fish was dressed generously in this tangy and butter caper sauce that was just divine. The fish came over some sautéed spinach which made the dish feel more hearty, as well as these little bits of steamed yuca which added a starchy and sweet component. The portion was generous and filling. Would definitely order again. - Suprema de ave: My friend ordered this and the portion was so large that she did not finish it (hence I tried some of it). Another very good dish! It came with 3 pieces of chicken breast that were filled with generous amounts of kale, goat cheese, dates, and pine nuts. This was truly an outstanding dish, especially for those who enjoy a little hint of sweetness in their main dishes. The goat cheese added a perfect creamy component. The edges were perfectly crispy. Unfortunately, I was too full for dessert but the options on their menu all looked exceptionally good and intriguing. I really appreciated the high quality food, the amazing flavors, the exceptional service, and the very nice ambiance here. It is conveniently located in the UWS so perfect for a nice dinner if you are in the area. The most pleasant surprise was the sweet plantain and goat cheese base that came with the duck, not something I would ever imagine combining. It was better than the duck itself which was over sauced with sweet cherry, too much going on considering how flavorful the base was already. I returned to Tasca for my girlfriend's birthday dinner tonight (1/25/25) and unfortunately I was not met with the same wonderful service and food as my previous experience. We were charged extra for accommodating our table's allergies (we requested alternative sides with the churrasco) but were not informed of the additional $22 charge until the food arrived without the side listed on the menu. While the extra charge wasn't a huge issue, both churrasco mains were served ice cold (the duck and empanadas came out hot) still delicious.... But ice cold and more expensive. We also prior to our mains coming out requested a second bottle of wine for the table. The bottle of wine did not show up until we had finished eating 35-40 minutes later. On top of that, it took almost two hours from the time we sat down to receive our mains. Two hours! Rather disappointingly multiple people in my party went up to ask about when candles would come out to celebrate her birthday (we let them know prior to our mains coming out that there was a birthday at the table) we probably went up 3 times after we got our check to see when it was coming but were brushed away each time 40 minutes after paying the $400 bill we decided to leave w/o a birthday celebration. Really really sad to see a place I once loved fail this poorly on such a special day. Duck was tasty and interesting but the seafood with lobster brandy reduction was very disappointing to the point of almost tasteless. Followed up by sloppy melting sorbet without forewarning that the coconut would be replaced by a second scoop of watery passion fruit. Was here back in September last year as part of a group so some of the memories are foggy but the photos allowed me to jog my memory. I remember the service being friendly and trying some other things but I don't remember what else other people had. Anyway as a cocktail I had the Special Issue Armada which consisted of Spanish rum (which was apparently aged over tart grapefruit and caramel with a hint of smoke,) amaro, and raspberry and it was $16. Many of their cocktails owning from their very large rum menu have rum of course and as I am usually a fan of any amaro based cocktail, I went with that one. I remember the cocktail having a good amount of smoke and being small but strong and quite tasty but nothing else regarding tasting notes (maybe sweet and sour to my recollection but unsure.) My appetizer was the "Coca de Setas" which consisted of a flatbread topped with shiitake mushrooms, black bean puree, kale, caramelized onions, pine nuts, and monte enebro cheese and it was $17. The price turned out to be very reasonable as it was massive being basically large enough for a dinner and two people could probably share this and a main dish and leave plenty full. In terms of flavors, it was mostly sweet and savory with a good amount of nuttiness and luckily I can really taste the kale. I personally think part of this could be used as a bite at the bar or as a side or something. Don't remember the other appetizers outside of maybe empanadas which I didn't try and I think scallops. My main dish was the "Magret de Pato" which was a thousand spiced rub duck magret over a tower of sweet plantain with a zinfandel goat cheese and it was $37. The dish had a very unique fun presentation. It was a good-sized piece of tender duck and that part was nice. The issue was the bottom half as I found that the goat cheese overpowered anything that it came in contact with and the textures didn't really work together. It was essentially merged with the sweet plantains and I remember removing some of the goat cheese so I can have the duck with the plantains which worked a lot better. Perhaps another Spanish cheese would work better such as Manchego or Idiazábal to add some nice smokiness or something similar. Still worth it due to the size. I do remember two others splitting the paella and liking and trying the steak and thinking it was fine. I personally did not order dessert as I was quite full and even taking home leftovers due to the size of the appetizer alone but I tried the coconut tres leches which was tasty. The food overall was pricey but tasty. The flavors were bold (almost too much so for the duck) but I prefer bold over bland any day of the week. Good spot. The timing was impeccable because although it started to snow heavily, and I expected the restaurant to be on the brink of closing, it instead was still full, which I thought was interesting. When you walk in, you can definitely feel the blend of the Latin American and Spanish influence, from the music to the overall aesthetic. The lights are dimmed, which only amplify the mood. For food, I ordered the Churrasco, which was a grilled skirt steak with yucca fries, Caribbean mojo, and green chimichurri sauce. And I have to admit, I was a bit thrown off at the idea of the chimichurri sauce glazed over the steak, but it worked incredibly well, and was incredibly flavorful. Skirt steak is not my usual go-to cut of steak but this one was done well. The presentation was also nice, seeing the colors meld together over a bed of what looked like mixed greens. The plátano croquets were outstanding and more than made up for the octopus however, especially with the sundried tomato chutney.
