This situation of bullying is an ongoing situation && nothing seems to be resolving within the school principals, counselor, security, etc I'm a very concerned parent of a child that is being continued to being bully on your school campus With no follow ups or return of phone call/emails Investigations && follow ups are important && for days to pass with no communication is very disturbing My daughter has been attacked from behind 3 times in less than 2 months of school being in session && it seems the staff at Dessert Oasis HS has no control over their students Signing a no contact contract obviously means nothing to these kids && policies need to be taken differently It is ridiculous on how you talk to different principals && staff of the HS && they all have different ways of trying to solve or say to this situation I don't understand why? When a parent is dropping their child off to school for education && is getting texts && calls from their child that she wants to be picked up because she is being attacked, I feel the school apparently is unsafe && not doing their duty to have children in their hands What do you have to say? Bullying is very serious && it seems your school thinks otherwise!! To feel the need to have to pull my daughter from your school is unfair She may not be a 4.0 student but she's been attending her classes && tries to be in class doing her studies To have to worry about passing periods && break times not knowing if she's going to be assaulted from behind is just sad YOU SHOULD HAVE ALL THE STATEMENTS && REPORTS && PREVIOUS EMAILS SENT BACK && FOURTH BETWEEN MYSELF && PRINCIPALS, COUNSELOR, STAFF ETC THAT I'VE COMMUNICATED WITH MOVING FORWARD IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING BUT WHEN IS ENOUGH, ENOUGH!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A MEETING CAN'T BE CALLED WITH THE PARENTS KIDS WILL BE KIDS BUT WHEN YOU ALLOW YOUR KID TO BE AN ASSHOLE && BULLY IS A DIFFERENT STORY PARENTS OF STUDENTS INVOLVED SHOULD BE INVOLVED OTHER THAN THE SCHOOL STAFF BEING YOU GUYS OBVIOUSLY ARENT DOING ANYTHING

They're quite funny and some are actually fairly reasonable. Now for those of you who say Vista is awful and berserk, I must say that's a fallacy and your own opinion. It's just the matter of what someone does and what actions they take, as well as who someone chooses to group up with. Vista is good in its own way, but also has its flaws. So remember it's just a decision based thing on almost everyone's part. - a former student who graduated from Vista.

Because of this teacher, my son is now being told he cannot participate in graduation over a 0.5 credit issue that honestly feels personal at this point. What makes it even more concerning is that I have two children at this school, and both have experienced the same problems with this teacher. Is that just a coincidence? Las Vegas already struggles with the level of education being provided, and having teachers who take away a student's opportunity to walk at graduation something every teenager dreams about is truly disappointing and shameful. Parents should be very careful and stay involved, because from my experience, this school does not genuinely care about the students' future or success.

Overall though, they seem pretty decent and want your child to succeed, even offering free after school tutoring. Some were very quick to respond to emails, some you would wait 1-2 days before hearing anything back. As far as homework load, that seemed fairly balanced. My child didn't have much trouble getting it done. My only suggestion would to be to switch up the semester Science projects. It was the exact same packet and project choices, for five years. They never did anything different and by grade 8, my child was mind numbingly bored with the same options. Next: bullying and drugs. Bullying is absolutely not tolerated here. Shout out to the Vice Principal, Mrs. Chipman, whom nips it in the bud with a quickness. They also have zero tolerance when it comes to drugs and are swift to react to any incidents. So high kudos for that. School events; a few are themed and very cute, others thrown together with very little thought (especially this last year). There would be only a couple days notice to the day before the event. It was strange. Graduation for 8th grades was not well executed either; no enforcement on the 4 tickets limit given so everyone that wanted to, attended (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, you name it). They ran out of seating quickly due to this. It was unfair to those that followed the guidelines and they never addressed it. For a school that is so stringent with kids regarding rules, that was a bit disappointing to see. Next up, the front office... if you're lucky enough to catch them on a good day, they can be very helpful but again, that is a mixed experience. Catch them on (regular) bad days and they are dismissive, short, and rude. As someone who has to make calls throughout the day at my job -and- taking in consideration that I'm sure they deal with a few unpleasant parents, I'm always polite, not once ever calling with an attitude. It doesn't seem to matter. And God help you if you get ahold of Alisha; the rudest, most foul tempered of the lot. How she still works there is absolutely beyond me. If I spoke to clients the way she does to parents, I'd be fired in an instant. It got to the point that if I heard her voice answer, I would just hang up and try again later. Last but not least, the emails. I get that they need to keep people informed but the frequency that they send them is just obscene. I'm not joking. It's -at least- three times a week and the timing is so random. Sometimes you'll get them at 2pm and sometimes you'll get them at 5pm, 7pm, and up to 9pm. Weekends aren't safe either. They really need to learn to reel that in with designated frequency, days, and times. It gets overwhelming quick and it's easy to miss updates. Overall, it's an okay school but needs some restructuring, especially the front office staff.

It's quite a change in his academic progress and his enthusiasm for school. He says Yayy every morning when I tell him what day it is, and that's school day. He started reading when he was four and a half. I don't have to ask him twice when it's reading time at home. Somehow Challenger got him to feel like he is having fun when he reads or works on the worksheets. He is able to explain to me errors he makes on his worksheets at school, and able to show me corrections. I am happy with his academic growth at this school. I like that the school entrance is locked at all time. You can't get to the front desk before you get approved to pass through the locked entrance There were couple times I had issues with admin. At first, I didn't know the school required uniform shirt and pants. I only ordered my son uniform shirts and went to buy him pants from a clothing store. One day he came home in someone else's pants with no note to explain why his pants were changed. When I called, that was when I was informed about the mandatory uniform. I was upset at how they made him change into different pants at school, and how they didn't have the courtesy to call me to work out the uniform issue. Another time was when I received a past due notice, and a warning of my son's school termination if the past due was not taken care of by so and so date. I was not made aware of the due. When I called the school to take care of the amount, I was told that it was from the one day that we picked him up late. Ms Brenda always calls me back in timely manner. For how happy my son is at this school, I can look past all the admin issues I have had.

First of all, no school out there is perfect. In addition, I think when selecting a school for your…read morechild, you need to have a good barometer of what kind of student they are and what kind of environment they will do well in. Academics - I found Coral Academy to be a good fit for my youngest daughter. They offer advanced science and math courses which are so vital in today's workforce. In addition, I find that many of the students at Coral truly like studying science and math ~ whereas elsewhere some students love to hate math and science. Having a daughter, it was important to me that she be encouraged in STEM courses and I find that the environment here is conducive to that. They offer many academic related clubs in addition to the advanced courses too. I appreciated the fact that they have their students take the PSAT as 8th graders. It gives you their scores early so that you may fill in any gaps prior to taking the real SAT as a junior. Location - Coral Sandy Ridge is in a nice Henderson neighborhood directly across from a park. Size - Coral Academy Sandy Ridge is much smaller than the local public schools, but not so small that the kids don't have a good selection of peers to socialize with. I was happy with the size of the overall school and individual classes. Sports - Some people complain at the lack of athletic activities at Coral. I agree that Coral doesn't have the current State Championship baseball or wrestling team -- or even many athletic teams at all. However, I found that to be the beauty of Coral. Academics is truly the focus here ~ which is what school is actually for! You can play sports on travel teams throughout the valley - so I don't see that as being an issue. However, some students may be a better fit at a school with more athletics. I think as a parent, you just need to know your child and find the best environment for them socially, academically and athletically. In a nutshell - I would recommend this school if your child has an aptitude in STEM courses, doesn't really care about sports and you want them academically challenged. However, if your child truly loves athletics and participating in school sports ~ then I believe there are better options for your child. Hope that helps! :)

My daughter has been a student at Coral Academy for over 9 years. I have never heard her complain…read moreso much about a campus than this one. This is what she tells me: all of the teachers either love you or hate you, if they don't like you, you will most likely fail in that class and not succeed as well as others. Teachers also pick favorites, mostly Muslim, Turkish, and Arab students. For the past couple of years, all of her science teachers at this campus have taught her literally nothing. Also some teachers barely speak english or don't even know what they are doing. Another thing, all of the staff take dress code WAY too seriously. For example, my daughter wore a Coral sweatshirt to school but just with a tank top underneath because it was too hot. A teacher found out that she had no Coral polo underneath and sent her to the office where I had to bring her a shirt in the middle of my work day. Which was extremely unnecessary, like do they have nothing else better to do. Also one of her friends were wearing slide on shoes but they were closed toed( which I'm pretty sure are allowed, like she wasn't showing her toes or anything.) and the Vice Principal, Ms Nourse.Came up to her and took her to the office and she got a minor referral. Also referrals can ruin a child's year. If you get 3 minors you get a major. And if you get 3 majors your not allowed to go on the class field trip. So lets say one student steals another students ID and they cant find it for 9 days, and they have to get a temporary one from the office each day. Then they can't go on the field trip. Also the IDs are literally useless. They don't even serve a purpose, like maybe for identification, but as if a students name is literally on every attendance sheet in every class. And its not like they scan them or anything. So it can get kids in a lot of trouble. Also the staff treats every student the same, like they are a evil. The only good teachers are Coach Gengo, Ms. Silva, Ms Sol, Mr Scott, and Mrs Jonah. "they are the goats" - my son. Also all the teachers are useless snd don't speak english. Thats all would not recommend.
