Tarka Indian Kitchen is one of our favorite go to places when we are in the Sonterra area. We live near La Cantera and are hoping that the franchise will add a third location near our home. The tiki marsala is excellent as well as the grilled chicken kebabs. The beverages are also amazing. I recommend the mango or lemonade on a hot summer day here in SA. read more

My wife and I came here about a month ago after going to a football game. We were just craving some Indian food and Tarka just happened to be nearby. I haven't had any problems with the Tarka restaurants in Austin, but they never seem to make it spicy enough even though I ask it to be. This time however, I was very pleasantly surprised. I asked spicy and they made it spicy! The food is always good and it was no different here, but again my main takeaway is that they made it spicy and that's all I cared about! read more

Authentic and Incredible Indian Flavor ~ Last weekend, after church, the babe and I made our usual stop at Trader Joe's, but with 1604 traffic surprisingly light, we decided to check off a spot from our Foodie List and wandered over to Tarka Indian Kitchen for lunch. The moment we stepped through the doors, a warm wave of spices hit us, possibly some cumin, curry and turmeric that were a beautiful welcome to this hungry family. The restaurant had well spaced tables, with a modern look and the space was quiet, but behind the counter, the kitchen team moved in a cohesive manner. We placed our order quickly: crispy samosas, the seasonal wing appetizer, and two entrees Coconut Shrimp and Chicken Tikka Masala (medium heat, just the way I like it). The cashier was friendly and patient, giving us just enough guidance without making us feel rushed. Our samosas arrived within minutes, piping hot and golden brown, with just the right amount of crunch. Before we could finish them, the rest of our meal followed. The bowls were still steaming, and each bite had a deep flavor and rich texture. The Coconut Shrimp was perfect, sweet, savory, with a slight heat and the Chicken Tikka Masala was just as just spicy enough to warm the belly, without being overwhelming. Our portions were generous, and we had enough left over to box up for later. You could spend more on Indian food elsewhere... but you'd be missing out. Tarka is a gem in San Antonio, fast, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling heavy. A casual meal that didn't feel rushed, with food that tasted like it was made with love. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back. read more

I've been craving Indian food so I placed an order to go using the app. If you sign up for the rewards, you get a free appetizer with any adult entree purchase that will apply on the app once you proceed to payment. I got the chicken tika masala, a kids meal with the chicken pakora, fries, and a mango lemonade, naan and an appetizer of the chicken pakora. Overall the food was a bit, and I'll definitely return. While tasty, the mango lemonade was on the sweet side, but my son still slurped it down. The chicken tika masala was served with a hefty portion of rice and even at a medium, the spice was pretty potent. If you are spice averse, definitely stick with the mild. The food was ready to go as soon as we arrived and was warm even after our 15 minute drive home. Great spot to try! read more

This was my first experience trying Indian food and I had zero idea what to expect The lamb tikka masala had sooo much flavor. Even after being full I wanted more lol. I even ate my leftovers which tasted just as fresh the next day. The garlic naan was perfect to dip in the tikka masala. I did assume this was a sit down restaurant but it's more of fast food. Regardless I'll be back because I've been craving it since I left. read more

Tarka Indian Kitchen - Samosas and a lassi. Perfect snack. - Indian Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

I love this place. The food is consistently good (highly recommend chicken tikka curry, chicken korma curry, garlic naan, mango lassi to drink, vegetable samosas, vegetable pakoras, chicken biryani) but all of their food rocks. Their customer service is ALWAYS kind, polite, upbeat, and seems to be happy to work there. The inside is chill, cozy and warm, although I always order to-go. I'd say for Indian food, their taste pallets lean more toward Americanized Indian versus truly traditional Indian; the plates are Indian food but the taste is more mild overall than the way Indian food has more spices. Thanks for being my awesome count-on Indian food place! read more

This is our go-to easy, fast, and delicious Indian spot in San Antonio! I really like that you can pick the sauce and then add whatever protein you want. It feels more like a fast food spot than a restaurant. It was really busy but they serve you pretty fast. It's located next to Trader Joe's so parking can be a little hard to find during peek hours. read more

I've been going here for years. I only get the lamb kabobs, it's been my order for as long as I've known the restaurant existed. Tarka used to give me whole sliced lamb on a skewer stick on top a bed of rice with a variety of greens. After a while they removed the skewer sticks, I don't mind this change because the taste of the food is still the same, only they took away the skewer. At this point it shouldn't be called lamb kabobs, it is now lamb bites. I ordered it today and I got something I've never seen before, it was ground lamb discs, it looked like ground lamb burgers that break apart on top of rice. The flavor and texture was absolutely not there. Please change the lamb kabobs recipe back to what it used to be, and I'll edit my order. Why does the lamb kabobs get changed up so much when it is arguably the best item on the menu. I am severely disappointed and will never go back to eat here again until it changes. read more

I wasn't greeted when I approached to order. I wanted to use my birthday reward, buy 1 get 1 free, so I ordered the paneer biryani (mild) , aloo gobi (medium) and an order of vegetable samosas. The samosas, filled with potatoes and peas, are my favorite appetizer. I went to the counter to request 2 small plates so we could eat our appetizer. When our entrees were served, I had to go to the counter to request utensils since they forgot to bring the forks wrapped in napkins with our entrees. The aloo gobi was disappointing. I would give it a 2. The cauliflower was mushy and there wasn't much spice even though I ordered it at medium level. It just tasted salty. Biryani had a nice flavor with chunks of paneer, highly recommend. I would encourage the staff to clear the tables more often. I spotted 5 tables with dirty dishes. It wasn't busy so there was no excuse for the tables to not be cleaned. Finally, 2 staff members came to clear the tables. The staff needs to pay attention to details to improve this dining experience. read more

I've stopped by several times whenever I'm in the mood for this type of cuisine, which isn't all that often. That said, I always go for their chicken curry with medium spice and jalapeños--it's my go-to. The warmth and spiciness hit just right, especially on a cold or rainy day. The staff has always treated me well, and the service is consistently great. read more

Tarka offers approachable and tasty Indian cuisine in a fast casual environment. I love that the menu is simple and makes it easy to pick a dish to order. What I ordered: Masala Fries - Fries are okay but need more seasoning. Not super exciting. Lamb Korma - The lamb is very tender and the korma tastes extremely creamy. The korma is on the grainy/chunky side and comes with rice. Chicken Tikka Masala - Great spices and flavor! The chicken is also very tender and its a big portion! Comes with rice. Garlic Naan - Classic and tasty. The bread is definitely on the thicker side. Mango Lassi - Yum!! This thick mango yogurt drink is so delicious! A must order! Mango Lemonade - If you aren't in the mood for a lassi, this is a good option! It's sour and sweet with a strong mango flavor. I think Tarka is a great place for those newer to Indian cuisine. It is not completely authentic when it comes to the amount of spices used but still a good spot to try out some widely recognized Indian dishes. read more

A fast casual Indian spot. As soon as you enter you can smell all the spices.Just about everything on the menu is great. Our favorites are the tikka masala and sagwala. The warmth from the spices in the sauces are so comforting. All curry dishes are served with rice. Don't forget to order the garlic nan to soak up the sauce. They have a lot of vegetarian options. The mango lemonade is a huge hit but I water my down a little as it's pretty concentrated. read more

If you're into gentrified Indian food then this is your spot. I got extra hot and it wasn't even spicy. The flavors really lack in ways this could never taste like authentic Indian food. The garlic nan was sad and soggy with lack of flavor. The tikka masala just tastes like an average tomato soup with weak spices. Idk what this is but I prefer my Indian food to have soul and flavor. read more

Almost a fast food Indian place but nothing in here is fast food taste. The lamb and chicken masala are so flavorful and delicious.

Service is always great here and meals are fairly affordable for quick service Indian cuisine! Always love the atmosphere, whether for family meal, business lunch, or takeaway. Just a pop by today for me The Lassi is much like a smoothie, ordered today was mango made with the optional coconut milk instead of the yogurt! Delicious and refreshing! We've only taken Dad to eat Indian food only one time before. It was a buffet, which is always Dad's preference to be able to try different dishes. Thought we'd try @tarkaindiankitchen tonight. We looked over the menu before we went to the counter to order. Matthew answered my questions. I ordered Mango Lemonade for Dad, and I got the Taj Mahal lager for myself. Then it was the Vegatable Samosas, Vegetable Pakoras (Indian version of veggie tempura), cup of Madras Soup, and Coconut Curry with chicken and veggies. I enjoyed all the food. Dad enjoyed the sauce on the rice, but overall not a real fan. He was happy to refill on the Mango Lemonade to bring home. read more

Tarka is my go to Indian food spot in town! Service is always quick and the flavor is always spot on. They have a large menu with plenty of meat and vegetarian options, as well as some great appetizers and drink options. The amount of food you get for the price is very reasonable and if you join their rewards program, they often send coupons. My go to order is the vegetable pakoras as an appetizer, malai kofta for a meal, and garlic naan on the side. They hands down have the best Chai in San Antonio! I always order it iced and wish it came in a size larger because I always drink it so quick! Highly recommend checking out Tarka! read more

As the kids say - this is pretty mid. It's ok, not bad, I'd eat it again in a pinch craving for Indian but the depth of flavor on the Tikki with chicken was not there, the naan wasn't as cooked as I'd have liked. The rice was ok - lamb texture was great, and the freshness was good on everything overall. But the flavor of the rice was lacking too. Again, not bad but certainly not something l'd tell someone to go try read more

Fast food type of Indian. Went on New Year's Day. You just order and sit down at a table. Everything came out super quickly. Once you're done, you leave your dishes at the table. -Vegetable samosas. Had a bit of spice to them. Wish you could choose the spice level. 4/5 -Tikka masala fries. Would not get again. Very odd. Not consistent with seasoning. Fries were good because they were crispy but not too hard. 2/5 -Taj Mahal beer -Reisling bottle (was not the one listed though) These came with 1.5 cups of basmati rice. It was a good amount for the dishes. They also came with a fresh jalapeño slice that was spicy. -Chicken Tikka masala medium. Good flavor. 3.75/5 -Lamb Vindaloo medium. 3.75/5 -Chicken korma mild. Wish it had cashew pieces like I've had at other spots. Very tasty. 4/5 I would recommend, and we will probably be back. read more

Walking in, the smell of spices was amazing! I've driven by lots of times and thought it was more of a sit down and order place. But actually, you order then sit and they bring it out to you. The service was both friendly and quick. The lamb kabob salad wasn't the best. The lamb was a little tough and lacked flavor and there was mostly greens with little of the other ingredients. I opted for the yogurt based dressing on the side instead of the agave tamarind it comes with. The kids tikka masala bowl with veggies was better though and had a slightly sweet taste to the sauce. Not sure I'll return but glad I tried it. read more

My wife and I eat here at least once a month. We always order the Korma with Paneer; the pistachio cream sauce is excellent. The Malai Kofta with dumplings is also another great dish, enough food to fill you up but not make you feel bloated. This time we tried the new Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza. It was really good! The flavor was a good change from the typical pizzas and the thin crust was cooked just right. The pizza came with a few sauces (not sure what they are) but both were great for dipping the crust or to add to the pizza. Not sure how long this will be on the menu, but I suggest getting one before they are gone! read more

I've never quite experienced Indian food at this capacity before! All the speed and convenience of a fast food chain with all the comfort of a nice restaurant. Everything was served quickly and was hot and delicious. All we talked about through the whole meal was how tasty everything was! Almost as if it was our first time trying Indian food. Even the drink fountain choices seemed to all be made in house? I really appreciate the self service station, with takeout boxes at the ready and reusable silver ware! We've been coming here a long time now, and it's still consistently delicious! "Consistent" is key here. There are other Indian restaurants that might be more "authentic" but we have yet to find one that is consistently delicious. One time it's great, another time the same dish is "meh" and you regret wasting your money and appetite there. Not true with Tarka- the same delicious flavor time after time. Sure, the naan could be a little better, but the main dish is so flavorful that it's perfect for dipping the naan and making up for any minor naan imperfections. Service can sometimes be a little better. Last night we walked in and everyone, about 4 people, had their backs to the customer side- just talking and laughing away, not turning around or acknowledging us. Once someone did, it was all good. I'm not a fan of the suggested tipping on the machine at the time of payment. If you're dining in, I'm not really sure what you're tipping. The only thing they do for you during your meal is bring the food to you in the brightly colored dining room. You serve your own drinks, grab your own cutlery, your straws, cup lids, etc. so just keep that one mind. The dining room is basic, too- just a series of tables and chairs with a few booths on the side. If you're going there for the flavorful and delicious food, nothing else even matters. read more
