I've stopped here a few times when needing to pick something up on the way back to my car after a doc appointment at NM next door, or in the case of this week, they were the only store in the area with the Apple Watch I wanted in stock (and it wasn't in stock for shipping....luckily downtown Evanston had it!). The store is well-organized and while it's not huge or as fully stocked as a regular store (like the other Evanston location) is, this one is solid and convenient. If I lived in downtown Evanston, I would be here all the time. It's on par with the Skokie Target, so it's good for quickly picking up essentials, but it's not a location were you would browse for an hour. In that way, it's actually better because you're less likely to run in to get TP and then walk out $400 later with a bunch of home decor, clothes, and shoes you don't need (or maybe that's just me who has that problem!) read more

I stopped here from out-of-town during Northwestern's Commencement weekend. I was so excited that this store was only within a few minutes' walking distance from my sister's apartment. It's so different from where I live and work in Atlanta because we have to drive everywhere here, unless you're in Midtown or Buckhead or live right nearby the neighborhood downtown center. They only have self-checkout stations and it isn't a large store so you wouldn't have to go through too many aisles before checking off your grocery list. read more

As a NU employee, this shop is the closest and largest for multi-purpose shopping. I have been here many times and, as European I would say the equivalent of Lidl / Aldi. It's just cleaner, more transparent. I think at fair prices, although I don't have much experience with that yet. read more

What a cute, mini Target! I was condo/cat sitting in the building that houses Target. So while in Evanston, I went downstairs to pick up a few things. It's seems so convenient for this area of Evanston, where there was a lot of foot traffic. The store itself was very clean and tidy. The food and beverage sections were huge, with a lot more emphasis in this area than clothing etc. The bathroom area had a lot of selections too. They also offer a nice area of holiday/seasonal items, greeting cards and decor. The staff was very nice. They were friendly and helpful. I love it when staff of a business makes me feel appreciated. Although this store is pretty small, it does offer the basics plus more. There is a parking garage attached also. read more

The fact that the carts lock as soon as you hit the door is a HUGE ACCESSIBILITY ISSUE FOR ME AND THE CITY OF EVANSTON NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS! Especially with the amount of elderly and/or disabled people who patron here. read more

The store is fine as a mini-target. However, the store recently reconfigured its checkout area (cashier and self-service) so that customers have to enter it and exit it through the same pathway, and it makes no sense. Additionally, because all customers are being funneled into the same one checkout line to self-service or the cashiers, customers can't stick to their preference if one of the two options is at customer capacity for the moment, while the other is available. read more

Evanston really needed something like this. For a really long time they only had a Walgreens for everyone's basic shopping needs. Having Target come in is a huge breathe of fresh air, and for the student population this is a major win. I personally love the urban Target concept and have also visited the one in San Francisco near the arts district. What makes these smaller stores unique is that they are basically a squished version of all the important things you need for your basic daily living. The only thing you won't find here is furniture (sorry Joanna Gaines), but World Market is nearby along with a few other higher end stores. This particular area of Evanston is bustling with the new Fountain Square and surrounding restaurants, and the decor reflects that cool urban vibe. I LOVE the artsy mural on the wall, and the lighting is nice and bright and it's excruciatingly clean in there. Super friendly staff, a well-stocked produce area, and my favorite discovery...a Minted greeting card rack (I am obsessed with Minted!) And, yes, it was occupied with lots of students tonight when I stopped in. read more

This Target is small, so you won't find everything you usually get at a larger store. I often find that the stuff on the shelves is not in the right place and under the wrong labels. The staff can be helpful, though, so definitely ask for something if you can't find it because a lot of times they don't put products where you might expect to find them. read more

This location has outstanding customer service. Lakivia and manager Michael went above and beyond when I was trying to find my heated glove that I thought I lost in the store. They were very compassionate and took their time to see how they could help. The good energy helped me find it. Thank you both very much. I appreciate you so much. This is a small Target in downtown Evanston. It's been a long time coming and this town desperately needed one! There is a lot of stuff here. Groceries, clothing, toys, household goods. Pretty much everything you would want here if you live in a small town. There is also self checkout as well. The lines were quite long but moved pretty quickly. read more

This is the BEST Target Store Ever! Every time I shop there, it is evident that great customer service is a priority! They play the best songs ever! I dance while I'm shopping, it's so much fun! The Store Manager, Jeff, should be a Regional Trainer for all Target Stores. He very obviously believes in excellent customer service, (like Nordstrom level). I have not seen such a well run retail team in ANY retail stores, in years, actually since Ma & Pa shops! It is not the normally huge Target Store size, but they pretty much have everything I want, and need when I go there. The store is also well maintained and exceptionally clean, convenient, and I absolutely LOVE this store! Thank you to the Management Team, and the entire staff for a consistently exceptional shopping experience EVERY single time. Target Corporate Executives should take notice. I've never been to one of these smaller Target stores near a University. Due to the smaller footprint I would go here ONLY if I was in a hurry. They have much less selection and many items are out of stock. Shelves were completely empty. The prices on most items were also higher than a full service Target; and there were very few sale items. I was told by an employee they have a captive consumer in the Northwestern students; so they can charge more and don't have to put items on sale. No one could answer my question when I inquired if the parking in the adjacent parking lot was complimentary to Target shoppers. I would definitely avoid this Target unless I was in a hurry or just needed a few items. read more

Theres a lot to like about having this Target in "Down Town" Evanston. To me, it harkens back to the oldy-timey days of having a General Store in the center of any town, but with updated merchandise, booze and food, much of which is geared toward College Students, but not entirely. My one quibble is with the emphasis on self-service check-out lanes. I understand the economic argument for doing this, and personally, I have no problem with it. But in my experience in this store thus far, I've observed that the Evanstonians who shop there are too involved in their own world or looking at their phone or otherwise distracted, or maybe just too conceited to bring themselves to perform check-out duties for themselves. One woman flat out refused to use the self-check lanes, and held up the whole line waiting for a live checker to assist her. So come prepared to cut in line to get around these type of customers, or with some time to kill if they put up a stink when you do so. Hopefully as time goes on, shoppers will become more accustomed to this way of living, and maybe Target will redesign how they manage the check-out process compensate for this kind of shopper. read more

I came over to the store on my lunch break in a last ditch effort to see if there was anything anyone could do for me. 2/2021 First time in this store. Like other targets, but MUCH smaller. Some grocery items, some clothes. Good for a down town area, but missing a lot of things if you need the big selections. Thought the prices were slightly higher on some things too. Possibly for being down town. Staff was ok, not outstanding, but ok. Place was clean and sanitary. Direct access from the parking garage was a plus as it was snowing. All in all, I would shop here again if I am ever in downtown Evanston again. read more

Last night I saw pan handers fighting in front of the store and It made me cross the street and just walk away instead of going into Target to get a few simple groceries. I went to Wholefoods instead. I walk by this Target every day and this location has been the most convenient place for me to buy things on my way home from work. However, I now walk across the street instead to avoid harassments from the pan handlers who are sitting in front of the store all the time. I also noticed that the front of the store is getting messy. I don't understand why Target is not doing anything about it but letting those people keep harassing customers walk in and out. read more

Finally a Target in Evanston! It's especially convenient for me because Whole Foods used to be basically the only food store in downtown Evanston, but I don't care for organic, healthy food. It's pretty small for a Target, but you can find just about anything you need. I wish their produce section offered more variety and fresher quality, though. read more

Target: Thanks for opening this location. Now I go to Whole Foods for what Whole Foods excels at and to Target for most other things. This Target even sells the same chemical-free lunch meat the Whole Foods sells, Annie's brand, organic and cage-free eggs, etc. Target: You might want to design a better interface for the self-checkout. Even geriatrics like me love the iPhone's "swipe the screen to scroll". Swiping the list of produce items will select one and not scroll. Your UI still has Windows 3.1 scroll bars left over from the late 1980s -- you'll have to wait for customer assistance if you don't use the scroll bar. There should be a larger sign on the screen saying DON'T SCAN PRODUCE. No worries, I learned my lesson and won't raise my voice like last time. Evanstonians: tip: if an item doesn't scan, use the scanning gun on the left side, the main glass scanner has trouble with bar codes sometime. Target: Especially during peak shopping periods and Friday and Saturday night when Northwestern students are stocking up for their parties, you need more clerks who are 21+, alcoholics like me do not like waiting for assistance to purchase our booze. I know, 1st world problem. Target: Did I mention alcohol? Nice selection: wines, cold beers, spirits; the usual brands most of us enjoy. Less trips now to Evanston's 1st Liquor on Davis, though the Davis location has very high-end liquor like Scotch and a large selection of rums and tequilas. This is a small Target. It does not have a huge selection, but it does have key items though. It has way too may self checkouts and not enough cashier lanes. It is better to go here than Whole Foods for sure however. read more

The idea of this new Target in Evanston is great, but it's a lot to be desired. It's very small and really only good for grabbing the essentials. The prices are also a bit higher than the Super Target up the street. It will do in a pinch, but overall I'm very disappointed. read more
