I had issues with this Target on Howard in Evanston in the past (idk could it be management style?) that I refused for years and years to patronize this particular store which is 5 minutes from home and preferred the further Niles store. I have the Target App and needed a few things, so I made a list on the app but found the main item I wanted was out-of-stock at Niles but available at Evanston. Ok, I'll give them another try but then when I was there, I noticed something - the prices!!! Yowzaa, Evanston prices are so much higher than the Niles store. I decided "nope", I'll just purchased that one item at Evanston then head back up to Niles to finish the rest of my Target shopping. Just for reference on two of the items I was comparing... OxiClean Laundry Stain Remover Spray Refill 56 fl. oz was $7.39 Evanston compared to $5.99 Niles; Just for Men Control GV Gray Reducing Beard Wash 4 fl. oz. $11.49 Evanston compared to $10.49 Niles. If you want to save some dollars, you'd be better off at Niles or even the Golf Mill store (they're not that much further). read more

I do not know what everyone's problem with this Target is. As far as Targets go, this one gets four stars from me. There's always parking not too far from a door. They have a decent clothing selection (way better than my old Target). I almost only ever go on weekends and they're usually pretty well staffed. Unlike some other Targets, they keep the shelves pretty well stocked. Lines can look long but they move quickly. Beyond that, it's Target. If I go without a list, I spend a lot of money. Went to buy a watch. Watches all in locked boxes, many with no price. Can't inspect watch or check features in locked box. Staff tried but only one guy know how to open boxes. Can only be opened at register. The other customer who wanted a watch gave up and left. Staff nice, but there are few staff. Few customers. Use Amazon. read more

Store was well stocked and maintained well and clean the layout is wierd its very long and confusing i didnt like the way they have there products are displayed you go down one isle and you get completely turned around and to go from one end to another you do soso much extra unnecessary walking not a fan of this location. I went in there yesterday and they had a single register with a line 15 deep with people and the same with the self checkout. This practice of cutting staff to make way for profits is sickening. I'd rather shop at a Target than a Wal-Mart any day. The prices are better Wal-Mart....but it's not worth the drive up Touhy to go so far, so I stick with Target. I think the selections of gift paper products is good, as well as the home and bath section. We usually stick with the personal care, food and pet items on a regular basis. We had been looking for barstools for awhile and didn't want to go broke on 4 of them. We actually found exactly what we wanted at this store and are very happy with them. They're nicer than some we've seen for a lot more money. We usually find what we want there, although I don't understand why they don't carry large sizes or popular choices of some of the brands....maybe it's a demographic thing. I had the opportunity to spend about 1/2 hour observing the staff near the door one Saturday while I waited for my s-o to come back and pick me up (it's not important). The staff at the customer service was friendly as were the security folks. We've never had an issue with the staff - maybe they've had good training in customer service. What I did find was the continuing disregard of customers for their fellow shoppers....when you leave the store at the west side exit, MOVE YOUR CART INTO THE CART LANE so people can get by and not have to move it after you've taken your one package out and walk away without a backward look. It's a small gesture, but would be much appreciated as there's not much room to get by on that side. read more

I just went to Target with my son, so that he could exchange a DVD he received for Christmas from his Grandma. She bought it at Target. It is a really small item. Apparently, they would not allow him to exchange it without a receipt because it is consider electronics. The employees blank stare spoke volumes. Not exactly Christmas friendly or family friendly. So, I gave my kid $5 and I guess I will drop the DVD at the Salvation Army. I do not usually return items, but this year we had one Christmas item to return and we do not have the receipt. Meanwhile, we also had $100 worth of Target gift cards to use. We used them and to my chagrin we still have $6 on a card. I should have loaded up on candy at the checkout to get rid of it. This year I spent quite a bit of money at Target for Christmas gifts and encouraged others to shop at Target because I was making an effort not to buy everything on Amazon. I personally purchased a couple nintendo switches and several games amongst other things. I should have bought them from Best Buy or Amazon,instead. I guess because I do not usually return items I did not realize how poor the customer service is at Target. Needless to say, I will go out of my way not to shop at Target and will discourage others. Target spends so much money encouraging us to buy things we do not need, but they are not willing to let a little boy exchange an unopened DVD. We should only shop at stores with good customer service and reasonable return policies. read more

Smaller than other Targets therefore less selection which is annoying when you're looking for a specific product you've gotten at other Targets before. The store was pretty empty. I dread going to this store - and when I feel compelled to shop there (for economic or convenience reasons) I make an inflexible point to go, say, on a Tuesday at 9:30am - when at least the crowding problem is at low ebb... ...but that doesn't make up for the piss poor inventory (and the weird sizing of clothes) and general feeling of disorder and as Kristen B. notes "disgusting mess"iness of the store. Recently had to take newly arrived friends relocating from Holland (who had no car and needed EVERYTHING) and I very reluctantly agreed to going on a Sunday afternoon. It was worse than my worst nightmare (though my friends seemed intrigued if not delighted by the whole new (for them) experience. After awhile, I experienced what can only be described as a cross between an anxiety attack and a pyschotic episode. Really - it was scarey (at that moment I think I would have traded and blank check to dine at Alinea for a single dose of Xanax!) Also, M.A. is right, unless you want to add insult to injury with your shopping experience, USE the stop light to to get out of the parking lot, even if you're making a right hand turn. Someone is bound to pull up in front of you and THEY will be making a left hand turn - you'll be stuck there long enough for your frozen groceries to thaw.... read more

Love the Howard target!! Always tidy, never too busy, and they always have what I'm looking for!!! Everyone is super kind-- most recently I was looking to buy someone some video games and had no clue what I was doing. Someone in the electronics department helped me promptly and even told me his personal opinion on which games were worth purchasing. They also had an amazing deal on sharpies! I spend a lot here and I'm done now. Bought a purse 6 days ago. First day I used it, it ripped. My own fault, it's a piece of crap. Threw the receipt away like a dummy and now it's useless and they won't give me a full refund because no receipt. Target used to be so easy and I loved it there. If you have a sign that states that if you have been vaccinated you can take your mask off. I took mine off due to this fact and was followed by my store employees the entire time. I was there with my three kids and husband. We all took our masks off and had staff members follow us and they pointed and stared at us. I don't get the feeling they thought we would shoplift. We were talked about for not wearing the mask throughout the entire store. It's was a gross feeling. We won't be back until they let up on their weird mask orders. Everyone should feel safe walking around without a mask and not being judged for it. If your sign states, we can take it off if we've had the vaccine. read more

People be hatin' on this Target for I don't know why! I've been to probably dozens of Targets and this is as about as average as you can get for a Target. I don't really have any noteworthy postitive or negative opinions about this particular location. Parking is exceptionally nice about Evanston's Target. I've been here three times over the past week since I just moved into Evanston, and the parking lot never seems to be more than half full -- this is something that is pretty rare over at the Targets in Los Angeles and San Diego (where I'm moving from). This Target also has a supermarket/produce section. I'm not sure if that's notable or not, but not even half of the Targets in California have fresh produce yet. Maybe it's different in Chicagoland. Given the proximity to Northwestern, I'm sure I'll be coming here plenty for the next five years or so! read more

For the longest time, this was the closest Target to the north side of Chicago. It's starting to feel pretty dated, but it's still pretty busy. It's not a Super Target so it doesn't have a full grocery (there's no need because there's a Jewel in the same strip mall), but there is a pantry and some fresh/frozen items (all regular Targets are going to this model now). read more

The target in Evanston, IL is horrible. I got yelled at by an employee. I hadn't been to Target in a while and I didn't know they now have one line to wait to pay. I accidentally went in line WITHOUT knowing there was a line in the middle of the store where it's NOT really visible AND there's no signs that mentions that, so a rude employee yelled at me. She made me feel as if I did it on purpose and she embarrassed me. I apologized and went in line, but she just as rude as she can be!! read more

Look I'm pregnant and I'm allergic to caffeine. I went to the Starbucks and your employees we're not knowledgeable on what drinks don't have caffeine. Sorry you're supposed to know your product if you work somewhere. I've gone to many Starbucks and left out happy because they knew their products. Single line up the middle of the store for checkout. Only problem is, no one knows this. Some go right to the checkout skipping the lines and cutting in front of those standing in line. My families go to store for years now. We have a routine pattern of sections we attend on a regular. Never had any issues.

This is certainly one of the more organized Targets. However, the times I've been here many items were out of stock. Their sales generally aren't that great (10 - 20%), but the prices for household supplies and even cat litter are cheaper than other stores. Like Tom M states, it's a one-stop shopping destination. It's perfect for Northwestern students looking for dorm/apartment necessities without having to trek to IKEA for a day. If you're carless, getting to and from this Target can be a pain, as are the long check-out lines on the weekend. read more

This Target is definitely the runt of all the Target stores. Which is a huge disappointment especially being the only Target in the Evanston area. I am a huge Target shopper and that is definitely not going to change, but it would be nice to have a bigger, brighter Target that has a lot more of varieties and quantities than what this one provides. And often, their 30% and 50% racks are stuffed haphazardly making it extremely hard to comb through. Service is on par with the other Target stores as they are always willing to help or find help when needed. read more

I don't even recall how many flu shots I've had in my lifetime and never received a bill because my insurance policies covered the cost. I always went to Walgreens or Osco. This time I made the HUGE, ENORMOUS mistake of going to the Evanston Target clinic. I RECEIVED A BILL! I went back to Target, Evanston, and gave the snippy Target Clinic receptionist the bill I had received + my insurance cards. I waited 25 minutes for Miss Snippy to TRY to get the bill in question resolved. When I registered for the flu shot my insurance info was never entered into "The System!" INCOMPETENCE! The staff was pretty nice (at the register and the returns section) minus the staff that was running the dressing rooms - the three women there are too busy gossipping about these pictures that they had just developed and despite three different attempts to interupt them so I could get into a dressing room, finally one of them looked up at me and very rudely said "How many items?" read more

What the Target on Howard St. lacks in charm, it makes up for in Vitamin Water sales. Almost every time I go in, they have Vitamin Water Zero on sale for a dollar each. We wanted colourful envelopes in which to send invitations to a special occasion. Target sells envelopes, but they are either boring and white, or letter-sized (our invitations were card-sized). We found nice blue envelopes we wanted in the cards section, but they could only be sold with a card. Now, we anticipated the outcome, but still decided to try and see if we could buy the envelopes by themselves, without the cards. This, of course, broke protocol. We showed the envelopes to one sales employee, asking if they could be purchased by themselves, who said that the envelopes came with the cards. When we told him we knew that, but still wondered if it was at all possible to buy them without buying cards, he asked for backup from another employee, who proclaimed that Target didn't carry those envelopes, which seemed as a somewhat absurd statement given that Target did carry them, they just insisted on bundling them with a card. Before long, we had three employees, explaining to us, in unison, how Target could only sell us the white envelopes, or could sell us some cards, and we would be able to get the blue envelopes with those, as if that was the only way in which God commanded that envelopes be sold. "We would just like to buy these exact envelopes, please." "We don't sell them. We have [unappealing] envelopes in the stationery section, but these envelopes come with cards." Yes, my dear gentlemen, I fully understand, but you are failing to see the larger point: it's not the the laws of Men, God, or the Universe that dictate that you can't sell us these envelopes, because you evidently have them sitting in a box somewhere, able to be sold, but it's the decision of some functionary in the depths of your corporate machinery who decided that only boring white envelopes are to be sold by themselves, and fun, colourful envelopes are only to be bundled with cards. That's just it, my dear gentlemen -- we understand the dogma in which you are forced to operate, but we want you to understand how silly that dogma is, for here you have a couple of people who want to pay you money for a product which you have, but which some higher authority decided that you can't take our money for. That's all we wanted you to acknowledge. But, of course, the light never shone, the acknowledgement never came, and the colourful blue envelopes were shoved back into some dark box, to be forever bound by purchase with cards. read more

The reviews seem to knock this Target, but I don't think I've been to one that's better. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of Targets but they are convenient in that you can get pretty much anything you need. I go in, get what I want, avoid contact with the employees (and most of the customers) as much as possible, and get out. read more

I've been a customer of this Target for 7+ years since we moved to Rogers Park. I love that it's close to Jewel and Office Max, which consolidates some errands. The parking lot is big and I never have a problem finding a spot, although I tend to shop mid-morning or afternoon, when it's not as busy. A word of caution - exiting from the Target parking lot heading East is extremely risky because there is no traffic light, and traffic coming fast from both directions. Save yourself the headache and exit from the West Jewel side of the parking lot, at the light. It's worth the extra 60 seconds to drive across the lot. Back to Target: PROS: The customer service desk is always well-staffed with helpful, friendly associates. Several of the cashiers who work when I shop are friendly & fast. This location carries groceries, which is really convenient and the prices on several items are considerably cheaper than the same items at Jewel. CONS: But if you need help finding something - better pack a snack for your quest to find an employee on the floor who will make eye contact or have any idea where items are located (or if they are stocked at all). I don't remember the last time an employee working the floor even greeted me or asked if I need help finding anything. The Starbucks is slow, slow, slow. I've waited up to 3 minutes for an employee to appear from the back somewhere. I used to grab a cup to sip while I shopped, but now I just get in & out as fast as I can (without coffee) because it adds too much time. The check-out lines are frequently too long even during off-peak hours. They are slow to call for back-up. This is the deal-breaker: the carts stacked by the east entrance are a fire hazard. They stack them up so deep they nearly reach and almost block the exit doors. It's nearly impossible to navigate a cart though to the exit without moving carts out of the way. And this problem has been getting worse over the last several months. If the store had to be evacuated quickly, this would be a serious safety issue. For this reason, I think it's time to spend my time and money at another Target. Peterson is looking promising... read more

It's a Target, this one is about what you get from any other Target in the world. They don't sell liquor at this one, but I think that is an Evanston thing. Cashier staffing can be spotty, sometimes they have plenty and other it's 3 registers with big lines. It's the closest one to my domicile. read more

Is it just me, or does it seem no matter what day or time it is you almost always end up waiting about 10 minutes in the checkout line, and an additional 10 checking out with the cashier! Don't buy perishable food at this target their food is spoiled due to mishandling. My last and final visit was last week when I purchase the natural non GMO bacon strips that were sitting in a puddle of mucus like slimy substance. I called the manufacturer who suggested not to eat it. I took it back and reported the issue to store manager. Next day I wanted to buy same brand but wanted to check if it was spoiled right out of targets refrigerator so I opened the packages to find each was filled with slim. I purchased same exact bacon at jewel osco next door it was bone dry no slim or mucus like substance. I went back into target opened another one of their death wish bacon packages and showed the store manager the difference between theirs and jewels same bacon, she simply replied "ohh" with dumb look oh her face. Google what can happen to you if you eat slimy bacon. The organic milk from target always tastes as if was left out for over an hour. The refrigerators electrical covers are always off exposing dangerous electrical connections to children, I constantly have to tell them to put back the electrical covers before they kill someone with it or their spoiled food. This place is all around cesspool stay away from the food.
