A month later I started up the new Lenovo and the screen immediately began to glitch. My new machine was defective right out of the box. I took it back to Staples thinking it would be a simple exchange. It was not. Their story policy did not all for the return/exchange as i missed the return window for electronics. Staples tried to bring the machine up but the defective monitor did not allow for and repair/diagnosis. Rats! But the machine was still under factory warranty. I placed a trouble ticket on the Lenovo website and was assigned a case on February 2, 2021. I waited about two weeks, thinking I would at least have a follow-up message about my machine. I replied to the email with my case number asking for an estimate. I use my laptop for my writing gig on the side (and to post these Yelp reviews!) Bottom line, I needed to get back on the web ASAP. I frequent Topsham where this unassuming little shop is located on the second floor of suite 2 in Topsham Fair Mall and thought, I'll check it out. I was impressed by the cozy waiting room, masks were being enforced due to covid, and social distance measures were put into place, clear dividers were used to shield customers and staff. I sat down with owner/head tech Josh who specializes in Lenovos. He was sympathetic to my plight and said Lenovo will probably never get back to me, so he offered to take over my repair claim and with his magic connections he'd give them a call. WHAT A RELEIF! I was able to unload my headache and put it in the hands of a professional repair tech who has over 15 years experience in the industry. Mr. Mason provided top-notch customer service, he really empathized with my plight. I trust my machine is in good hands. The battery would not fit inside the compartment, besides that the exterior of the laptop was free from any major damage (though it was worn in from 10+ years of use). I was told the brand new (still in package, purchased from Walmart ) flash drive I brought in did not work, so I was put in a situation where it was easiest to purchase what they had. I did not want to complicate things, so I went ahead and gave them the ok... When I went to go pick it up I was kind of surprised at the price, it was a tad bit more than the rough estimate I received over the phone from Ben. But that wasn't an issue, I was excited to finally get my beloved data! I was so excited I did not fully realize how much of a makeover ole' Joe did on my beloved MacBook. It now makes sense why he was pushing me to recycle it, get rid of the evidence of his HORRENDOUS work. My mind is absolutely blown he could keep a straight face when he handed me this laptop. He seemed agitated that I asked him to screw the housing back together, it was literally wide open, you could see the motherboard as clear as day. He snapped it back together and then mentioned there were some more screws, which he did not offer to put back in. So I had to say: "yes Joe I want the screws from my laptop". This would be obvious to anyone besides a Genius like Joe. I would NEVER bring anything to these people EVER again. I literally cannot believe the damage he did to my laptop. He completely ruined it. I had the laptop previously looked at and it would of cost $3-$400 to fix, at the time I opted out to just buy a new laptop and recover the data later. I wanted to hang on to the first generation MacBook Pro because it was something special to me, I liked having the possibility of having it fixed. Now it is literally DEMOLISHED. Look at the final invoice under Notes: "4. Reassembled device ....." Look at the picture! This is what he deems as a "reassembled device". Literally wide open with tons of screws missing and the keyboard completely torn up. Joe you are a Genius!

I had previously used someone whom I decided I would not use again because of a program he installed which required my contacting him every 6 mos to update it (Microsoft was calling it pirated) so - anyway, I saw that Creative Tech Owl (Tra) was close by and gave him a call. I ended up meeting with him and giving him my laptop, which he "overhauled" and made it run superbly and it is still running like a top! I was and continue to be so very happy with the work he did. Consequently, I also had him install new WiFi and assisting devices (forgot what you call them) throughout our place in Maine - and, again, he installed the equipment and it runs "like a top" for all our many devices. I truly meant to write a review back two years ago, but life gets in the way. I've written one many times in my mind which had much more clarity and detail, but I cannot recall so many of the details.
