So pleasantly surprised. My wife and I live in Raleigh, NC and needed immediate inspection of the floor, sub-floor and joist system. Residential Contractor assistance in the current Raleigh building boom is suspect, at best so, honestly, I was still suspect. Tar Heel Basement scheduled me, but I'd called back needing next day inspection in attempt to fix a tile issue. I cannot recommend Tar Heel Basement Systems. More than six months after this project began, the work is still not complete. What should have been a straightforward crawl space project became a months-long ordeal marked by failed inspections, poor communication, missed commitments, and a complete lack of accountability. The most frustrating part was not the inspection failures themselves--it was the fact that I repeatedly had to manage the project for the company. Promised callbacks did not happen. Emails went unanswered. Managers failed to follow through. On multiple occasions, I was told someone would contact me, only to hear nothing and be forced to initiate contact again. When inspections failed, I often learned about the status only because I reached out myself. There were stretches of weeks with no communication despite repeated emails, phone calls, and text messages. I documented every interaction because the pattern became so predictable: promises were made, deadlines passed, and I was left chasing answers. Over the course of this project, I escalated concerns through multiple levels of management simply to obtain basic communication and updates. To be fair, Caleb and Chris Alfano were professional and helpful when I interacted with them. Unfortunately, individual employees could not overcome the larger organizational problems. The fact that this project remains unfinished after multiple remediation attempts and failed inspections says everything prospective customers need to know. I have spent countless hours following up, requesting responses, documenting conversations, and pushing this project forward. No customer should have to invest that amount of time and effort after hiring a professional company. The workmanship concerns were disappointing. The communication failures were unacceptable. The fact that the project is still not complete more than six months later is inexcusable. read more

We contracted these folks to repair our sidewalk. They consistently missed their appointment times, but once we threatened cancellation, they finally showed up (late). This was in 2025. Fast forward to now: They reached out saying that they wanted to come out to inspect their work from last year. Turned out it was just a sales pitch try to sell us more product. The sales person pointed out some shoddy work and said they would repair it under warranty. Now, crickets. We played phone tag for a while, but now they just won't reply. My issue is the dishonesty of claiming they wanted to "inspect their work" to make a sale, then run away when we ask them to make good. read more

The initial job was satisfactory. They had to reschedule a few times, etc. but ended up being ok. They made it so one of the crawl space doors did not close, still working on that. They came for the year inspection. Left the crawl space door open (not visible when you come and go) and now our pipes are frozen. Looks like we will lose a day or 2 of business due to the carelessness and unprofessional employees. I will determine the lost business revenue and employees wages and send them a bill via my attorney. So no, I would not recommend them. read more

Tarheel Basement came out a year following the installation of 2 dehumidifiers and drainage from my downspouts. They spent a long time under my house and showed me several pictures of the issues underneath my house. They also looked at the floor issues which were mainly in the front area of the house. They gave me what was to be the fix for those issues according to their professional evaluation. I signed a contract for the additional repairs they stated were needed to fix the problem. They came out later for a follow up spent several hours under my house. I ask for the pictures, never received them. I contacted them stating my floors were in worse condition than before they started. They came out again spent a long time under my house again and now the "new fix" will cost more than the original fix. My floors are literally coming apart. What should my next move be? read more

I couldn't recommend this company less. The amount of money I paid to encapsulate my crawlspace was insane. The products they installed do not work. I have had to call them over and over to ask them to replace batteries on the system because it keeps failing. It seems like they do not have enough employees because if we call to ask for a technician to come out, they are unable to schedule closer than 2 months out. UPDATE: I noticed the company has commented on several "negative" reviews saying they are unable to locate a customer file under our information. I can guarantee I have a customer profile. I am beyond disappointed in their inability to take responsibility, and even more disappointed in their attempt to make it appear like the "negative" reviews are not from real customers. If you're thinking about getting this company. RETHINK!  Jan. 2023 they installed a  sump pump.  They knocked my dryer pipe aloose, left a huge pile of dirt in the entry way to under the house and worst of all, they knocked the 4 inch pipe to my furnace aloose while installing the electrical part along  a wall.  This caused condensation to my subfloor and my hardwood floor above it.  After 15 phone calls; 2 visits from 3 employees to come out and inspect; pictures and videos of  the damage; 2 emails which were blocked; 2 certified letters and 2 estimates upon their request the manager refused to fix it after I was repeatedly told they would.  They tried to put the blame on the plumber who found the problem. read more

I enjoyed meeting them, young people so professional, and down to earth (no pun intended). Everything promised prior to service was delivered; I was really impressed by the way we were taught about the process before it began. The price was less than we thought it would be, after we listed the things we wanted done. The really great thing is that the foundation of our old home is stable for years to come. A warranty will carry over to the next homeowners after we eventually sell. We got 2 quotes for crawl space encapsulation and Tarheel was not only the most thorough but also the least expensive. Working with them was very simple and they have financing options available which is nice. Our installation team (Jalynn Brown, Derrick Spencer, Johi Atkinson, & Travis Carroll) were very thorough and seemed to really know what they were doing. They recommended a sump pump when they saw standing water even though it wasn't on the original work order. I received two services from Tar Heel Basements. First, Austin installed a dehumidifier and some drains in my crawlspace. He let me know when he was on his way and showed up on time. He explained how it worked, answered my texts when I had additional questions, and brought me a manual. Very nice to deal with! I then had my driveway repaired by Austin, Randall C. and Zach B. Again, they arrived on time. Explained things to me and completed the job in a timely manner. They pointed out drainpipe issues which led to the uneven surface and cracks in my concrete and the pavement sliding down my steep driveway. The repairs were not cheap but I have peace of mind that the job was done right. I signed a 3-year service plan with them. The workers continually stressed that if I had any issues, they would return and address them. read more

We found Target Basement Systems and they got it fixed within a week. There work was precise and attention to detail excellent. This has been utterly dissaponting and a waste of our time. The company rep that came to do the quote (Jordan) operated like a used car lemon lot salesperson, offerred us the moon and the stars, and lied to us. She did not tell us that we had to remove duct work, even though we EXPRESSLY asked her to thoroughly inspect our crawlspace and quote EVERYTHING we needed to do to get the foundation fixed. So in the end after several reschedules (one ours, one theirs) that took our project to drag almost three months, the installers came, and said "we cannot do this, you have to remove the duct". So on top of the 18,000 quote, we had to spend additional 3,000 that was not contemplated on the original budgeting. We expressly had to ask this Jordan lady to go in the crawlspace a Second time, because we felt she took absolutely 3 minutes in the crawlspace, and did not go towards the narrower area, perhaps too much trouble to her. In the end we had to cancel the project, request a refund of any monies we paid (which they honored, minus 400.00 for permits and engineering they didnt refund - ALLEGEDLY) and now we will go yet another season until next spring (who wants to be without heating in the winter) to requote and get it fixed. What is irritating is the unprofessional quote, the lack of sense of responsibility and blatant concealment, lying on critical information, and the lack of project management abilities. To this date, the electrician they summoned to install the dehumidifier has come TWICE after the project has already been cancelled, to try to do his part of job, which shows they can't even notify their subcontractors so they do not waste their time coming here for a job that has been long cancelled. I made a contract with Tar Heel Basement Durham/ Raleigh area to encapsulate the crawlspace. Good reviews, sweet talking, a lot of promises of professional service. I will be honest, guys worked hard in this small crawl space, and I paid for it, I was happy when they finished! But job was not finished!!!! It was not "encapsulated". Some places you see the ground and animals get into " encapsulation". The white plastic just is laying on the wet ground, not sealed. I called it " rug for frogs". Basically, dehumidifier dehumidifiers a wet ground under "rug". And it is not going to help me with electrical bills. The electrician what they contracted , messed up with outlets and sup pump could not be connected to electricity and was beeping (on batteries') until they bring the extender. I contacted Tar Heel and they promised to fix it but when-unknown. After first rain, the drainage tubes fell apart (they have a different diameter). I call to the bank and canceled my check. Now I feel like I need to bring an independent inspector to evaluate what was done under the house. read more

Just built a 1.25 mil dollar custom home and moved in last year. We had some hiccups during the build and called them to do an inspection. Long story short they found 40k+ in work they recommended and none of it is necessary. Additional girder beams under the master suite floor due to what they said was a sagging floor as well as additional support where a repair was made during construction (that repair also has an engineer's report). The builder had the engineering firm who designed the floor plan come out and they found absolutely nothing needed to be done. The report specifically shows how the firm designed the floor to compensate for what this company told me was over-spanned joists. They either don't know what they are looking at or lied. Again, an engineer with his license on the line said no structural failure or risk at all. That is a far cry from 40k worth of work due to this so-called structural failure. All i can think is they saw the house and thought dollar signs. read more

I recently needed my crawlspace paper wrapped and a foundation wall elevated about 2in. Right after sending a yelp message I received a quick response with times to have someone come out, and once they did come out it was followed by an awesome visualization of the work they could get done. While, understandably because of demand, it did take about a month or so for Tarheel to be able to work on the project (I was noted of this in preparation). Once they were able to come out, they did so quite quickly and with very high standard. The crawlspace work was very well sealed and contained, and the foundation work was well explained and the people involved in the whole project did a fantastic job. Overall very glad I choose Tarheel. The office staff and their communication is in need of better service they do not follow up and can be lacking in setting times. However with this type of business the installers and supervision is where you need excellence and that they have. Our supervisor for the project was Grace and her crew, Preston and Alvarro could not have been better. Actually due to Grace I was able to get a change order for additional work the original salesman didnt communicate could be done. Once we got going she and her crew were wonderful. The crew all showed attention to detail they were POLITE, and very hard working. The three of them worked none stop to finish in one day what others might have drug out! I would use Tarheel again and ask for Grace, Alvarro and Preston! Maybe even Grace up front on the sales side...she should do both!! read more

They didn't do the job right as per contract agreement several beams was not repaired correctly leaving with uneven floors in my home . Poorly done for 16,900 dollars and to top it off they broke several of my new ac ducks and I had to pay a nother contractor 900 hundred to replace the ductwork that they broke and because I had to wait 3 weeks my electric bill was double because I was cooling my crawl space as well with the broken ducks . We had an inspection done for the front porch of our 2 story house. The work to install the push piers was completed on time and satisfactorily, however the repair of the brick cracks was not. We had to call to schedule for them to come back and do this after several weeks for it to settle. The recommendation from Stonewall Structural Engineers specified the cracks in the brick should be spot repaired and "Mortared". When they came out to repair they were going to "caulk" it. Per the Superintendent, this is their procedure and would have to charge extra to have a masonry mortar it. They were not willing to complete the project correctly. Very disappointed in the knowledge and explanation upfront about this repair. We will be seeking repair at our additional expense. read more

After taking a look at the crawl space under our recently purchased home in Durham, we decided something needed to be done to clean it up. We saw an ad for TarHeel Basement Systems in the Raleigh News and Observer paper and called them. Thomas Shaeffer, the salesman, came out, inspected the area, and recommended an encapsulation. This was what we thought it needed as well, so we signed up with the service. A couple of weeks later, the TarHeel crew of Nyles, Tyree, and Terek showed up. They were polite and professional and an asset to the company. The encapsulation took about 4 hours. They cleaned up the area beautifully. We did find out that the new dehumidifier and pump were not hooked up to the house power. The head of the crew said he would report this to the office and get the electricians out to make the connection. Good to his word, the electricians were out the next day and we have a functioning system in the crawl space. While we don't have any data one way or the other, my wife feels the house is a bit warmer and the furnace runs a bit less frequently. She is very happy with the results. On a scale of 1-10, I rate the whole experience as a 9. The reason for the lesser score has to do with communications. We were told the office would be in touch with us to collect the deposit and set an install date. We had to call the office more than a week later to get instructions on paying the deposit. After another week passed, and not having receive the install date, we got a call that the company had a cancellation and wondered if the job could be done the next day. We agreed. I don't think we should have had to call the office to pay the deposit! Other than that, it was a good experience. The installers, Nyles, Tyree, and Terek were great. read more

I had a driveway that was uneven, and a garage that started to sink in one corner, making it unlevel. After a couple of quotes, we decided to go with Tarheel Basement Systems to help level things out. I'd like to write a good review about the work that was done, but I can't. Before going into details, I should say that all of the staff were very professional and easy to work with, initially. But in the end, the solution to fix the issue turned out to be worse than the original problem. Roughly a week after the initial "leveloing", many sections of the driveway had shifted back to where they were or worse. On their second trip out, the technician said that the mix on his Polyfoam device was not correct so the strength after the material had set was not correct. After redoing a few sections, he said that he didn't think that our driveway was a job that concrete leveling could have fixed and that the sales person should have advised against the Polyfoam leveling process as an abatement measure. Since that work was completed, we now get water pooling up against our house and in our driveway that wasn't there before. Our crawlspace that had been very dry for decades now has a musty smell. The driveway has already re-shifted and the cracks are once again a trip hazard for my mother in law and young children. Finally, the garage was never lifted back to level. I called and a supervisor named Tyler came to take a look the week before Christmas 2020, he stated that they weren't really in the business of concrete leveling (to which I thought: "Okay, well why did you bid on this job?"). His suggestion was to have a crew come by next time they were in the area to attempt to direct the water into the drain (that has been there and properly functioning for years). Despite seeing Tarheel Basement Systems trucks around town multiple times since, as of 7/12/21 no one been out to fulfill this promise. I have left messages asking for status updates (Ashley & Lisa) that have gone unreturned. At this point, I believe it was a wasted investment and for roughly the same cost of this job, I could have had the sections of driveway removed and had new concrete poured. I would not recommend using this company to manage your concrete driveway or foundational issues. read more
