For $11, I was expecting a considerably bigger torta and a decent amount of meat. At this size and portion, I'd say $5-$7 would be more reasonable. The rice was probably the weakest part of the meal. It was very plain and didn't have much flavor at all. I also tried the green and red sauces. Green sauce was actually pretty good. The red sauce, however, tasted like regular Pace Picante sauce... just watered down. I've seen some other reviews saying the tacos are pretty small, and after this experience, I'm definitely curious to see for myself. I'll be back for the tacos, so stay tuned for the Taco Update. Overall, not my favorite spot, but I wouldn't completely write it off. Maybe I'll swing by every few months or more and give it another shot. The tacos might redeem this place... we'll see.

My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.

We ordered the torta de carnitas, barbacoa tacos, and a tostada de deshebrada. Things That Could Be Improved The bread used for the torta needs some attention. As soon as the salsa touches it, the bread becomes soggy and begins to self-destruct like a message from Mission: Impossible. You have to eat the torta before it disappears. I highly recommend finding a supplier who can provide a sturdier bolillo, one capable of holding the delicious carnitas, salsa, and everything else without falling apart. The Good There are so many great things to say. The carnitas in the torta were delicious, and the flavor was excellent. The bolillo was the only weak point. Next time, I will probably order the carnitas as tacos because the tortillas are really good. The Barbacoa This is high-quality barbacoa. It is not the greasy, oily, fatty barbacoa you often find at carnicerías or even some upscale restaurants. I had the opportunity to speak with Silverio, the owner, in person. He takes pride in the process he follows to create this delicious barbacoa. Silverio has a background in the meat business, and it shows. He knows exactly what he is doing. I highly recommend the barbacoa. The Salsas It took me two visits to understand the intensity of the salsas and create my own taxonomy of heat and flavor. All four salsas are delicious, but two of them are deliciously dangerous. The light green and dark red salsas are the spiciest. Do not let that stop you from tasting all four. The Charro Beans The charro beans are free and available at the bar. You must try this treat! I did not personally try the tostada de deshebrada. However, my beautiful wife, who is also an experienced chef, said it was delicious. I trust her. I will return to La India Bonita, and I highly recommend it to anyone in League City who wants to enjoy a delicious, authentic barbacoa taco at a good price.
