Been going here since high school, so for 20 years now give or take (wow I'm getting old). Still eat here regularly including today. The food hasn't changed in all that time which is a huge compliment. I remember running into my teachers here constantly because not even they could resist the burritos. My go to's are Al pastor or carne asada as either super nachos or a super burrito. Burritos always come with a bag of their homemade tortilla chips. All orders come with condiment cups so you can grab pico de gallo, salsas, radishes, lime wedges, or jalapeños from their salsa bar. True Californians know salsa is meant to be poured onto each bite of your burrito and Taqueria Maria provides 3 tasty homemade salsas to do that with. Staff are friendly and fast. I'm also pretty sure it's family run. Not the place for a fancy meal or decor but if you want Mexican food done right and big portions for your money then this is your spot. I prefer it to the famous burrito places like La Taqueria (but I am very biased as a Richmond local). read more

I ordered a 2 green enchiladas combo plate with rice and refried beans for take out. When I got home there was no rice and beans! Then I try to call the restaurant to tell them that they fucked my order up. When they picked up the phone I told them that they messed it up. They said that they only charged us for the two enchiladas when I literally asked for the combo. The cashier did NOT even clarify our order at all. My friends are fans, the lunch meet-up group I belong to are all fans, and I sure am. Why you might ask, do we all enjoy coming here? We order at the counter, so there is no problem in figuring out who owes what. The food has always been tasty. The portions are generous. I have never been able to finish a plate which is fine; I bring it home for the next day. Even the al carte orders are big. The last time I was here I ordered tacos and a Chile relleno ala carte I thought it would not be a lot of food. I should have noticed the price before I ordered; it would have given me a hint of how much food I was going to have. I was too embarrassed to ask for them to take something off my order and I was even more embarrassed when two large plates were put in front of me at the table. On the plus side, I did get 5 meals out of this huge order. On a couple of previous visits, I had shrimp Diablo and the bistek ranchero. They were both quite spicy. I usually have them leave off the beans and add extra rice. My favorite menu item is the chili relleno. They roast a good-sized pepper; it is fully stuffed with cheese, and covered with a ranchero sauce. They do a great job of clearing out the pepper seeds. The chips are okay, I do like the salsas. My only quibble is that the salsas are not marked, I do like to know what they are before I put them in the very small cups. The restaurant has always been busy when I've come here and the line can be long. The service is efficient and not particularly friendly. Perhaps that is because I am usually here at lunch when it is busy. A plus is easy parking and the central location near the freeway. I can eat here or take it home quickly and enjoy the food before it is cold. read more

Well menudo is a dish can be overcooked and can give off odors if not prepared well. I tell you I asked if they had pata too. Man this experience was great. You have to love the simple dishes and can be elevated just on techniques. But one of my secrets of staying young is eating something rich in collagen. This menudo did not have hominy, but never been a fan of it, but to each their own. Service was great, greeted when walked in. Salsas typically like any taquerias are self served, but after ordering they bring your food to your table. Ambiance wise Spanish music was playing and if you closed your eyes you can image you are in Mexico. I speak Spanish as well and you can imagine it was great. Food was hot when it came, flavor was balanced and texture was cooked tender, when different firmness according to the pata or the tripe. I ordered a super carne asada burrito with everything but when you start biting it from the top there is no meat at all nothing but vegetables, rice and that's it. To find out the meat was all the way at the end of the burrito that was my first time there I've never had a burrito like that. When I finally got to the meat, it was literally at the end. read more

When I got home the quesadilla didn't have enough cheese & the chicken was falling out & the amount of guacamole & pico de gallo was not enough for my quesadilla, good thing I had gotten more pico de gallo @ salsa bar. I went to taqueria Maria to purchase mole enchiladas. The lady who helped me told me I can choose the meat. I was excited because all day I was having craving for mole enchiladas. She told me there were 2 enchiladas a la cart. I paid approximately 18.00 with change. I asked them to make them to go. When I got home I was getting ready to eat and to my surprise those were not mole enchiladas those tortillas were covered in tomato sauce. I was so upset I called them. The lady who answered told me that yes they are not really mole enchiladas and the person who helped me at the register should have told me . I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I told her that's false advertising. Why would you claim you are selling mole enchiladas when in reality they are not. She could not even give me an answer that made sense. She told me you can come back and give you your money back. I didn't go back because I had already driven all the way home and it was raining outside. Really great local spot for Mexican food! This place was busy but they kept the line moving and the food came out fast. Dined in with several people and we didn't have to wait long for our food. They even deliver it straight to your table. And the FOOD! Omg, so filling, delicious, and perfect. Chips & so many salsas available of course. I got the super burrito, loved how they grill the outsides to give you a crispy crunch each time. Stuffed with ingredients and distributed evenly inside. One star because of the service and attitude. Have been here many many times (almost weekly) and usually have a nice experience but there are a few times when the cashier is not friendly and doesn't listen. Guess what - today is one of those days. Most times the young lady taking orders is very sweet and remembers us. "Back again?!" She is very nice. Today August 14, 2023, the kid who was working was not like that. Wasn't paying attention after asking "here or to go" then she started talking to a co-worker. So of course she had to ask again. I tried to order a crispy taco and enchilada. The menu doesn't specify soft or crispy. She said it's not an option. I told her I had gotten it many times before. "From who". My brain says "Obviously from another person who works here taking orders" but I tell her another young lady. She said it's only 2 soft tacos and enchilada, that's how we make it. Im thinking how hard would it be to make a crispy taco to go with an enchilada? I let the next person go first so I can rethink what I want. My sister tried to order a crispy taco and the girl repeated the order "two soft tacos". "I only want one and crispy not soft" and pointed to the menu. The girl said "No that's two tacos and they are soft." The menu says tacos - $4.69 each. It doesn't specify how many but with the price we figured one and if you wanted two you ask for two. It also doesn't say soft. In the past I have order a crispy taco and got it. This girl is not accommodating at all. My sister ordered a coke. She never in life would drink a Diet Coke (diet anything really) but the girl again wasn't paying attention and brought her a Diet Coke. We told her not diet, regular - her reply "you said diet". "OH NO SHE DIDNT" AIYA.... At this point I'm fed up with the girl and knew I wasn't going to get what I wanted so I just got a drink. "You don't want food?" No because I don't want soft tacos, I don't want two tacos and I just want a drink. I'll eat at home. "I can ask the cook if he'll make you crispy taco with an enchilada." Sorry but too late - "no thank you, just the drink" My normal tab is about $21+, today it was $5.59. I only got the drink because my sister got her meal - not what she wanted mind you. I would honestly rate this place as a generous 4/10. There is no reason why this place has to be so unfriendly. And the food is average at best. The rice, beans, and chicken are ok. The guac is a 5/10. It needs more salt. I personally like my chips a least a little salty. These chips have no salt. I ordered the steak fajitas, which are $20 plus tax. Unfortunately, the cashier wasn't really listening to me or maybe I didn't speak clear enough, because I got the chicken instead. As an aside, the cashier seemed sad and disinterested when I spoke to her. Like she didn't want to be there. She stared out the window for most of the order. To be honest, I was first taken back when I saw the prices on their tacos and plates. They seemed higher than other tangerine nearby but when I got home I realized that their taco sizes are bigger. They are not the small street tacos that you can eat in 2 bites. The tortillas are around 6 inches in diameter and they really piled up the meat on the tacos! I had their al pastor, tongue and carne asad tacos, they were all really good! I really like thst they threw in a couple of grilled green onions and jalapeños! They are certs great condiments to the tacos! They also have a salsa bar with variety of salsa to choose from. All the salsas o took were really good! They are popular but service was very quick. Went in on Tuesday got two chorizo crispy tacos $12 they looked delicious when I opened the container, As soon as I cut one with a fork the chorizo was black proceeded to check the other same thing.
