The food, as always, is good. Love the salsa bar. HOWEVER, this time i ordered on line and paid ahead of time. I picked up, came home and found out they had forgotten my flan. I called the restaurant multiple times, and no one picked up the phone. I came back a few days later, since I was out of town, and brought my receipt. Instead of apologizing for forgetting the flan, the manager acted like I wanted to cheat him to get a free flan. He asked me when I picked up, rolled his eyes, and turned away. I am absolutely in love with this place! I came to Aptos to visit a friend and we decided on this spot for dinner. It was a quick drive from our Airbnb. Upon arrival, there were about 10 people in line in front of us. The staff were friendly and efficient, and it wasn't long before we were able to place our orders. We tried some of the delicious chips and salsas from the salsa bar, and our burritos came out shortly afterwards. I had the California burrito which was massive and delicious! I usually finish my meal, but this was one I had to pack up and save for later that night. The only change I would make was that the chicken was advertised as pollo asado/grilled chicken, but came out more like braised chicken (without the grilled flavor and spice). Throughout our visit, the line to the cashier stayed around 10 people, with lots of locals coming and going. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu here! read more

I love this place. I would've given them five stars, but I really want them to read this at the restaurants lately. Someone has been adding tons of pre-ground black pepper and it's really nasty and it's taken over the green salsa and I'm noticing it in the meat as well. I know you want to go to this place for their tacos, burritos, toastadas and enchiladas. They are good but I want to encourage you all to try their other goods. One such is Diablo shrimp (camarones a la diabla). You won't be disappointed- spicy, flavorful, comforting. Comes with side of beans, rice and creamy avocado crema to calm down those spices. Beef fajitas - another classic, plenty of meat, sides and tortillas provided. They were so good we came here for dinner two days in a row. We're back in Santa Barbara and I'm craving them so bad! I was pleased that they had some child's selections. I bought a child's burrito. It was $9 . I was expecting a good deal of cheese in it since it was marketed for children , there was hardly any in it I am talking maybe two or three teaspoons . Also, the rice was unusually hard and dry , like they used old leftover stuff, or it was undercooked , regardless it all got picked out. We were left with some beans inside a tortilla. For almost $10 , I was really hoping it would have higher quality stuff in it, but I was disappointed. We were visiting Aptos for a few days and looking for a place for a quick and good lunch.....and seeing this is a regular spot our hosts come to for such a meal, they suggested bringing us here since we also enjoy a good quick mexican meal. The place is situated in what appeared like a pretty small, but busy, local neighborhood shopping center. The restaurant itself is fast casual, very spacious with a decent number of tables inside. You basically get in a line, place and pay for your order, and wait till your name is called....for takeaways at least. What I really liked about this place is that they have a small sauce bar with a good variety of salsa sauces ....with a chip pan next to it where you help yourself to chips. Service was also very nice and friendly too. We usually like a good burrito, so we ordered a Perico Burrito with chicken (your choice of meat) and the Turbo Burrito....comes with fish and shrimp. Firstly, the burritos are huge!....and secondly, they are stuffed with really fresh and really yummy ingredients....and the tortillas have a nice, thin, and springy texture to them too. Both our burritos were very good, but I thought the Turbo Burrito with fish and shrimp was my absolute favorite with that yummy sauce that made everything so moist, cream, and delicious. Unexpectedly, the burritos were so large that I honestly couldn't even finish one by myself! Fresh fast food from a new establishment near Safeway. I ordered online and my food was ready promptly for pick up. The taqueria was spotless as it is brand new, with just a temporary sign hanging from the front window. Ample seating inside. The cashier greeted me very politely and expertly wrapped up my order which had already been prepared and waiting. We ordered the beef quesadillas and three soft taco carne asadas. We will give Los Pericos another try as I realize this is a new location. We enjoy then downtown Santa Cruz Los Pericos (except the crowdedness). I believe their model is to take on smaller spaces either to save on rent and/or create artificial demand with longer lines (I am comparing to other taquerias in the area which much larger spaces). Pro's: - Food tastes good, comparable to the 139 Water St location. - Diverse menu options including the "Turbo Burrito" which includes fish & shrimp - Great location with plenty of parking. - Open late. This is great for late night beach goers or just an alternate Aptos late dinner option. Con's (likely due to being new): - Long wait to order. We were right at the door with 8 people in front of us. It was a 16 minute wait before we could order. The POS system had problems with contactless Tap to Pay. That's an average of 2 minutes per transaction. - Long wait for food. We waited 21 minutes to receive our takeout order. It was 4 common items. - Half of our order was wrong. We ordered chicken in two of our entrees and one ended up being pork and the other beef. They got the entree correct, but meat choice wrong. - Out of salsa. The salsa bar was completely picked over and didn't get refilled. It was also very messy. - No chips. We heard a worker say they were out of chips. - Poor logistics / small space by the cashier & kitchen. You will bump into other people waiting for their food or to offer when scooping salsa as the salsa bar is immediately adjacent to the cashier. Similarly, to pick up your offer when your number is called requires walking past the front of the waiting-to-order line to pick up your order, and again to leave unless the front door is not crowded. They should move the salsa bar further to the left and add a window or counter where further left (facing the kitchen), especially when Door Dash and Uber Eats volume picks up. - No heat lamp. The prep stand used where the cooking staff placed completed items did not have a heat lamp. If you order wasn't prepared all together, some items may sit for an awhile and cool off + time to travel home if ordering carry out. - No item labeling. This is a minor issue but the other taquerias in the area will label items so it is easy to pass out each person's order without having to open each one and checking under the foil. read more
