I have been coming here since I was a kid when the restaurant was palapas. I was sad when they changed the name and changed the menu up. The food was still very good on the last menu, but was beyond stoked when they brought back the old palapas stuff. I ordered the nachos with pickled jalepenos and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out, it is even better than before! The service was also amazing! We came at 1:00, so it wasn't too crowded cuz the lunch rush probably already left. It did take a while to get our orders taken and the food didn't come out all at once. We had to wait for two people in our party to get their food 15 minutes later than the rest of us. The burger taco was creative and was okay, but I wouldn't get it again. My family had been coming to Palapas, which was the former Mexican restaurant here, for years. My mom and stepdad even had their rehearsal dinner here in the private room! We were sad to see it go because of all the fond memories, but glad to report that Dos Pescados is wonderful! My recently celebrated my stepdad's birthday there and from start to finish it was a perfect celebration. Walking in, the interior is largely the same which is nice since it has always been a gorgeous restaurant (you can't go wrong indoors or outdoors). We had a wonderful, attentive server and our host was friendly and welcoming too. Someone in our party had a strong nut allergy, and the staff took extra care to make sure his dish was nut-free. He was worried about finding something that he could have so it was nice that he could enjoy his meal with no worries! We ordered: Food: - Chips, guac, and salsa (all delicious, chips came out hot) - Chile Relleno - Pozole - Chile Colorado - Chile Verde - Rock Shrimp Tacos Drinks: - Mango Margaritas - El Jefe Margarita - Pacifico Food and drinks were fantastic and all the ingredients in every item were fresh and flavorful; the portions were also very generous and we brought some food home for weekday lunches. Toward the end of dinner, the staff came out with a complimentary ice cream dessert with a candle in it for my stepdad. They joined in singing him happy birthday which was really sweet! The ice cream is an organic soft serve and is very good; also more than enough to share as someone else noted. Average at best. Dos Pescados is located right across the street from Seascape Beach Resort where I'm enjoying a little "stay-cation". Popped in to grab lunch to-go and based on the reviews, I was looking forward to some yummy food! The restaurant is on the smaller side with a bar area, indoor dining and outdoor dining both facing the ocean in the distance. I ordered online Togo and I. 15 minutes, my order was ready to go. Here's what u got: FISH TACOS w/Pickled Mango - I was pretty shocked at the look of these when I opened the box. Two small white corn tortillas, a skinny piece of breaded fish, pickled mango (delicious) and a sauce that totally over powered the fish. For $20 (does NOT come with any sides) I was disappointed. The side of guac ($12) was pretty tasty and the chips were fresh and tasty but the salsa was another miss for me. It was way too smoked chili forward for me. I prefer a more lite tangy, tomato salsa. Neat restaurant with appealing ambiance due to the large view windows, open French doors from the bar, and white interior paint. I almost voted 4 stars because the venue rented out the best patio to a wedding party (Friday dinner around 5:00) so we didn't get the -great views I wanted. But, a restaurant has to make money and I'm glad we were able to pick one of 3-4 remaining bar patio tables. The plants around the patio and entrance are thriving and that's appealing, too. Table when moved was wobbly but they had rubber-like shims and we balanced it. Dogs welcome in outdoor dining. It seems the menu evolves. The peanut Cole slaw was fantastic. As with any crunchy food, be careful eating the peanut brittle bits. Fish tacos were great! Menu said fried, we asked for grilled. Portion was small but price was ok at $16. Slaw was great to share at $13. Due to the proximity to Manresa beach and the ambiance, I'm likely to return. The neighborhood was great, too. read more

Went to Dos Pescados for happy hour while staying at Seascape a couple weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by what a good time we had! We sat at the bar and ordered drinks - my only gripe is the second basket of chips and salsa costs $4 so we did not get more, but if we're continuing to buy drinks it should be free IMO... I did really enjoy my margaritas. They weren't too sweet which is exactly how I like it. There were only a few people around so it was very relaxed in the restaurant which I liked. Loved the bartender who kept giving us brain teasers to solve - we had so much fun! Also got the ice cream sundae with strawberry and chocolate fudge and really enjoyed that. If we're ever in the area again I'd love to return for happy hour! read more

My husband and I love Dos Pescados! We are bar seaters - we find it easier to grab a table right away and are laid back folk. We really enjoy the older gentleman who bartends, I am not quite sure his name, I believe it may be Paul. He is a pleasure to chat with and takes the time to check in and make sure you are doing ok even if he gets a rush of tables. The chips and salsa are addicting, I could go through rounds of those . Guacamole is really good, but for $14 should definitely be a larger portion, it comes in a small dish. We like to order a few items and do a "Tapas" style dining sometimes. Last time we got entrees, and I had ordered the Chile Relleno, it was a bit to spicy for me, but I am definitely spice sensitive and should have been mindful of that prior to ordering a pepper dish LOL. My husband ordered the burrito, and it was delicious. We traded dishes so I could eat something and the Relleno was fine for his taste buds. Not spicy to him. We have had the empanadas in the past, although I don't think they are on the menu anymore. Absolutely would get that again. Crudo and ceviche are fresh and light, super tasty. read more

I also came on April 19, 2026 and couldn't disagree more with Roberto. The salsa was merely tomato sauce: no onions, no cilantro, no jalapenos or peppers, no lemon, no salt...nada. I feel most restaurants spice up the salsa to sell you more beers or margaritas. Not the case here. I asked my waitress if she could bring me some chopped jalapenos. she brought me one that was sliced into 4 pieces. I proceeded to dice it and put it into the tomato sauce to try and enhance it. (Little did I know this was going to be a $2 service charge for the jalapeno) My wife ordered the chicken tacos and the tortillas came soggy so she only ate one and we took the other one home to revive it. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. I took a bite out of one and told the server it was cold....he took the plate back to the kitchen and put it on a salamander or something to heat it up and it re- arrived at the table about 5 minutes later. The manager recognized the situation and did go back to the kitchen to expedite it and did take the order off my bill. The waitress was unaware of everything and only asked if we wanted dessert. One of the best date nights ever. Staff were super welcoming and accommodating, seating us near one of the windows facing the ocean. Spectacular views with the sunset. Even with the restaurant packed, place was still quiet enough for an intimate conversation throughout our dinner date--particularly for a Sunday night. We took our server and chef's recommendations for appetizers, entrees, and wine pairings... Wow! We were not disappointed. Karlton and Jonathan's wine-pairing suggestions, were on-point. The wine's themselves were great as is, but really shined with each of the dishes provided this evening. Very very impressed. We started off with oysters. I'm not usually a fan of oysters, but these were very fresh, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the lemon mignonette. Now, the soft-shell crab tacos and Chiles Rellenos were the best I've ever had. Both seasonings and sauces were unique, mixed in with fresh vegetables and fried jalapeños and lemon--a foreign but welcome combination just packed in with flavor, and totally won us over! When in doubt ask for the specials or recommendations from server... Highly, highly recommend. Callouts to the staff for the recommendations and for making this night an absolute treat. Just had a group event at Dos Pescados and it was perfect! This is my second visit to the restaurant and I must say the service, food, and of course the view were all top notch! I tried the guac, calamari, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, and the mango marg. Delicious complementary chips and salsa too! I thought all food was super delicious and well made. The restaurant was able to accommodate my large group, day of, which I greatly appreciated. From the hostess, to the server, to everyone in between the service was kind and efficient! I took the Wahini. It is tough to get her to go out, but when I mentioned Dos Pescados she was in. I started with an El Jefe Margarita. It was excellent. The wife had the cauliflower Al Pastor and she enjoyed it I went with the Crudo and the the smoked mussels. Both were fantastic. Service was quick and friendly. Even the kitchen ran out a couple of hot tortillas for us. Everyone was smiling and seemed to be enjoying their work. I've been there at least a dozen times. Usually alone at the bar. Everything great about Palapas is still here: the view, the service, delicious seafood, and, of course (!) master bartenders Paul and Josh! I like the food better: the food quality is higher (such as locally raised chicken and locally sourced in-season vegetables) and the prices seem about the same. We ordered wine (happy hour price!), a mango margarita, chicken, and and an ahi taco with radish. I will agree with some of the other reviewers that the salsa and chips are not an improvement. The chips are thick and don't taste fresh, and the salsa, which does have a fore roasted pepper taste I like, also has an oddly sweet taste that isn't my thing. read more

So, last night was the big night - hubby's birthday - and naturally the only way to celebrate was with margaritas and more food than any one family should attempt in polite society. Hubby went full boss mode with the El Jefe margarita, I went mango-on-the-rocks (because fruit is healthy, right?), and both were so good they made us consider retiring from our day jobs to become professional margarita enthusiasts. The daughter, in a twist straight out of Willy Wonka but with more tortilla chips and fewer Oompa-Loompas, found the elusive Star Chip. This meant: free dessert! (Cue my inner parade music.) But first, calamari. Oh, and not just calamari - calamari with fried lemon slices and jalapeño bits like tiny edible fireworks of citrusy, spicy joy. Who even thinks of that? Whoever you are, fried-lemon-genius-chef, I salute you. Main course highlights: hubby's special soft shell crab tacos were so delicate and delicious, it felt wrong not to light a candle for them; my fish tacos were the perfect blend of crunchy and zesty; son went carne asada plate (solid life choice), and daughter went chicken enchiladas that were basically the culinary equivalent of a cozy blanket. Desserts? We doubled down. Free sundae for the Star Chip win and the s'mores pot de crème because, well, chocolate. Both were decadent, both were destroyed in record time, and I regret nothing. Dos Pescados bought Palapas in Seascape. We were in Monterey and decided to eat at Dos Pescados. We expected typical Mexican food and were pleasantly surprised that it was not. We had the green enchiladas with rice and black beans and it was delicious. The ambience was the same we had enjoyed when it was Palapas. Our server Nate was great and he treated us like old friends. The manager, Chris seated us in a very comfortable booth and was quite gracious. During the meal he came over to check on us and explained who the new owners were. He made us feel at home and told us that most of our old friends, Hailey, Leah, Glynnis, Paul the bartender were still there. He said he would give them our regards. Although this restaurant is off the beaten path it's worth the trip. First of all , its location: it's overlooking the ocean., near the Seascape resort. There's a large patio , and a light roomy interior . The menu is Mexican with a fusion of ingredients. The friendly server assured me that I would love the calamari , so I ordered them along with a ceaser salad. I'm glad I did because the calamari were perfectly cooked and delicious. We stopped in for dinner as a family (my husband, our two kids, and I) and were surprised to see that Palapas is no longer here but we were so pleasantly surprised by the amazing experience we had! Our server, Hailey, was incredibly friendly and attentive. The way she described the specials made us want to order one of everything, she clearly takes pride in the food and made everything sound delicious. Every staff member we encountered was kind and welcoming. We have a 16-month-old who just discovered her "screaming voice," so dining out can feel a little stressful. But the team made us feel completely at ease, and it really meant a lot. The front-of-house manager was also incredibly welcoming. He stopped by our table to check in, genuinely asked how everything was, and even offered to get us something for our drive back over the hill, such a thoughtful gesture that really stood out. Chef Trent is doing something special with the menu, the ingredients are fresh, the flavors are fantastic, and the presentation is beautiful. We heard about this new restaurant that took over from Palapas in the Seascape Village and decided to check it out. We arrived early to catch their Happy Hour (W-Su 3-5 pm), but honestly it wasn't much of a draw... most of the HH food items were the same price on the regular dinner menu! However, the HH wines by the glass were between $2-5 off... so I guess the HH deal is on the drinks. In any case, here's what we had... * Snapper Ceviche -- Raw snapper chunks with diced mango in a chili & mango dressing, served with house made corn tortilla chips. Fish was very fresh. Not really a cured ceviche, but more like a poke. If you don't like the raw fish texture like my spouse, skip it. * Fish Tacos (2) -- Good, but not great. Small strips of beer batter cod with some chili crema and mango. I think Vino Cruz does this much better. * Guac -- Nice fresh avocado mash with some chili oil & pepitas accompanied by tortilla chips. (Strangely, these cups were a bit thick and stale, and not as light & crisp as the ones that came with the Snapper Ceviche.) * Street Corn (2 cobs) -- Yummy! We liked this. Fresh sweet corn with the shaved cotija cheese topping. * Caesar Salad with Salmon topper -- This was our favorite dish from the regular dinner menu. An elevated Caesar with baby romaine wedges, delicately applied Caesar dressing with light dusting of breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan. Salmon was perfectly seared and crisp (skin removed) outside and juicy just medium well. We'd totally get this again. Our server June was great... cheerful & friendly. The restaurant layout and ambiance are great too... great views of the Monterey Bay, plenty of indoor seating and multiple heated patio balcony areas, including a pet-friendly area off the main indoor bar. The new restaurant certainly has potential. Would be nice if they had real deals on their Happy Hour Food Menu, but maybe we'll just come back to try a regular dinner. read more

Dos Pescados is a vibe. The ocean view is gorgeous, and it really sets the tone for the meal. The raw menu is fresh and absolutely delicious, everything is so intentional with the flavors and is high-quality. The chips and salsa are a perfectly addicting, and the quesabirria and braised short rib are a must-try. Their bar is also a standout with many delicious options on or off the menu. The inside is almost like you're in Tulum and the music completes the ambiance, which is such a nice contrast to the sleepy, foggy town it's nestled in. Our wonderful server explained they were in a "transition" period. The Palapas kitchen staff was returning to work and over see food service. Good thing. Dinner for my wife and I that night was horrible. My wife had shrimp tacos - which were under cooked and I had fish tacos - that were nothing but gross. They were prepared in some kind of odd breading, overcooked. Served with canned refried beans and mystery Mexican rice. Salsa was out of a jar and guacamole tasted from Costco, not fresh. However, the chips and margaritas were delicious. We felt sorry for the front of the house staff. It was obvious they were aware of the short comings of the food. It is really too bad. Palapas was lots of fun and great food back in the day. We will never be back nor recommend unless there is a serious directional change in food quality and care.
