We went there after long time. We ordered our usual spinach cheese pupusuas and veggie burrito. They did not have spinach and they told we can fo Loroco and Cheese and they told it is vegetarian, we took a chance and then I was looking up Loroco as i was not familiar with that and never tried it. Loroco is an edible, unopened flower bud from a Central American vine, and is a staple in Salvadoran cuisine, especially in pupusas. When the dish came it just tasted like spinach! Take a look at the pictures. Burritos was were i was disappointed, the gave a platter instead of Burrito, but they quickly complied to take it back wrapped it up in tortilla. But when we split rice and bean was on one side and vegetables on the other, which diluted the whole experience. We got another burrito to go, which was also folded wrong Wow I learnt how wrong way of folding a Burritos can bring this much difference. Also their Jalapenos were not having the kick. So this trip did not turn out well. So reducing a star. Hope next time they will earn it back. . read more

We went to El chipotle Taqueria on Thursday and the food and service were great. Pedro the owner was very nice he came to check if we liked our food . I had pupusas for the first time and they were delicious, My wife had 3 chicken taco plate and they were loaded with chicken. Had a horchata to drink which came with a refill . Definitely will go back again when in the area. There is no veggie garnish on the pupusa plate cause I don't like that stuff. read more

I was visiting from LA and took a chance on some Soquel Mexican food, and El Chipotle did not disappoint. This review is specifically for the chicken flautas because OMG, yum!! Most places don't make flautas, so I was excited and surprised to see them on the menu. They were served with rice and beans, and I seriously judge Mexican restaurants on their beans, and these were literally perfect..so flavorful, soft, and gooey. This is a great local, family operated taqueria. They also have breakfast, highly recommend that for menudo or chilaquiles, omelets, bistec ranchero all are good. They just started a second location in Santa Cruz, congratulations! This time we got camarones a la diabla and chimichanga plate. My boyfriend wanted Mexican food and I wanted something on the healthier side, so we checked out el chipotle taqueria because they have a vegetable focused healthy plates section on their menu. It's a small taqueria with a few booths and tables, more of a takeout spot but we're traveling and wanted to dine in. Even at 5pm, they were quite busy with takeout orders and 5 out of the 6 tables were full. Service was great. It was an all hands on deck kind of thing. The guy working the register and answering the phone also helped out with serving. They gave us free chips and pico de gallo. Good chips and pico had good flavor, and I'm not really a pico person. I ordered the 100% veggie plate from the healthy plates section of the menu, and I added shrimp. My partner got the chile verde plate. The veggie plate was delicious. Only downside was the shrimp was really overcooked. It would've been perfectly substantial without the shrimp, I should've just gotten it as is. Huge serving of veggies which was just what I needed after eating out every meal the past few days. The plate felt slightly lacking in flavor, so I asked for some green sauce and they gave me a big portion of the chile verde sauce which complemented the dish really well. I tried my bf's chile verde and it tasted exactly like others that I've had before. Their beans and rice were really good too. We had lots of leftovers which reheated pretty well. I would definitely go back if we're ever looking for a taqueria in Santa Cruz again. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you, there is some great eats inside this place. They really give you a lot of food for the price. Ordered a 2 chicken tamale combo and carnitas taco/chile relleno plate. The chile relleno was filled with plenty of cheese and the carnitas taco was one of the best I've ever had. Carnitas were crisp on outside, tender inside. Tamales were just okay. Both plates were smothered in melted cheese. Beans and rice passed the test for authenticity. I only wish they had a chips & salsa bar and refillable fountain drinks. What a lovely experience! Breakfast is a tough meal for me, and now I'm especially dazzled with El Chipotle. This was my first time in and I will 100% return. Gosh where to begin. We came in at 10am Sunday, the place was half full. We were seated right away, brought water, chips and salsa and our order taken. My companion had huevos rancheros and I had the carnitas plate. Cinnamon coffee = yum. The inside is simpy decorated and casual. Clean. You can tell lots of locals go there. The food came and my carnitas plate was generous all around, with a lovely pile of diced onion and cilantro. Carnitas is a good test, and this passed with flying colors! It was griddled perfectly crispy, omg, so freaking good. Both the pico and hot salsa are flavorful and so tasty! The huevos rancheros is served on a tostada and beans on the side. The sauce was exactly what he was hoping for. The food was solid! However, even with as good as the meal was, the true gem is the quality of the staff. They were genuinely happy to be there, lighthearted and spontaneously singing and laughing and having fun. 100% recommend El Chipotle! read more

Lots of flavor in the food. The "pico de gallo" had fresh tomatoes and serranos served with homemade chips, nothing to do with the bland fast food version. I had one of the best "mole de Puebla" chicken here. Even high end restaurants don't achieve this balance of sweet and spicy, cleaned up the plate. There's just something about this place that I love. It feels like I'm at a friends home. They serve breakfast til 3pm...I seem to always order the same thing, the scrambled eggs with shrimp. The refried beans and corn tortillas are delicious. I've ordered the huevos rancheros in the past, it's also yummy! When I'm hungry for something and not sure what I want, I come here! Service is friendly, food is prepared fresh, so it's not instantly brought to your table. Worth the wait. Locals eat here, too, which is another good sign. Prices are reasonable too. A cozy family owned restaurant. Full menu of wonderful Mexican dishes. There were 5 booths and 2 tables of 4 available for seating. They had a Birria plate and though Beef Birria wasn't a choice as a meat for the burrito they easily accommodated my request as my meat choice. I ordered 2 Birria Burritos that came with chips and salsa (great chips!) to go and walked back to Sir Froggies Sports Bar. I was so pleased to see Quinoa as an alternative to white or brown rice. Been here many times. Tonight it sucked both food and service. Was the only one in restaurant and took 5 minutes to get chips. Another 10 to get red salsa. Guys chatted whole time in back about what the fuck ever but ignored me for 10 plus minutes. When the food came out the beef was burned to a crisp and took another four minutes to get tortillas....for fajitas. Used to be good but prices have been jacked 30-40% and service sucks.
