Good food and good service. I've had several items from here. The Birira Quesadilla was very good.

Words that I've lived by my entire life. But being a Tex-pat here in NoVA has had me exploring...and El Paso has been a restaurant that I keep coming back to. I've never been to this location before, but another app had mentioned that it was 3.4mi from my work, so I figured I'd try it out...I've been having a hankering for enchiladas this week and figured I'd scratch that itch. Since it's Friday, I decided to try the Enchiladas Rancheras, described as 2 cheese enchiladas topped with beef or chicken, served with lettuce, a tomato (not needed, I will omit this next time), sour cream and a side of rice and beans. Sounded perfect! I paired it with a bowl of queso and a water, because I'm still on the clock, otherwise it would have been a cold Modelo or swirl margarita. What was brought out to me was not lunch, but a time machine...taking me back to my college days and a meal that I've been chasing for over 20 years. The beef was stewed and tender, and paired with the cheese enchiladas it reminded me of hitting up Taco Cabana after the bars, ordering a carne guisada and a side of queso, mixing it all up together and diving in with chips. I wasn't planning on inhaling the whole plate (and queso too) but I did and even though I am in gastric pain, I do not regret my decision. Even though I'm sure I looked the fool, I closed my eyes while eating it and I was back there in College Station at 2:30am, listening to Cross Canadian Ragweed and having my whole life ahead of me. The food was THAT good...it actually took me back in time. The service was also excellent and attentive, and I wish I had the bravery to go back into the kitchen and shake everyone's hands. I will be coming back, I will be ordering it again (sans tomato) and I will be putting myself into a food coma once again. If you're looking for delicious Tex Mex food in the area, as a native Texan and a descendent of the Old Three Hundred, I highly recommend El Paso...they're a little bit of home right here in Northern Virginia.

However, once inside, my experience was much better than expected. The food arrived hot, was delicious, and the portion sizes were generous. My only concern was the service. I had to repeatedly ask for the waitress to return to our table to check on us and provide additional items we needed. Aside from that, the food quality and value made for an enjoyable dining experience.

We ordered the guacamole traditional and I can say that it was both fresh and flavorful. There were an adequate amount of chips, but where my issue lies is the price for the portion of the guacamole itself. Being used to paying maybe $15 for a whole quart of guacamole at places like Uncle Julio's and others, I was expecting more guacamole for the price. Unfortunately the website doesn't list the size when ordering, and there's one size. When I got home I saw that we had a 1/2 pint of guacamole for $11, I was in shock and upset. We had barely enough for the two of us. For that amount of guacamole I wouldn't pay more than $5. 4/5 stars for the taste, 1/5 for the price... Next we got the Spinach taquitos which are crisp corn tortillas filled with potato-spinach-cheese with cabbage slaw, crema, cilantro, queso & mango habanero chutney. These were absolutely delicious! It perfectly blended the classic Mexican taquito with the Indian flavors of mango habanero chutney and Indian spiced potato/spinach filling. I wish there had been more crema and veggies on top but that's just a personal preference. Rating: 5/5 for flavor and price at $10 for two Next I got the Dos enchilada combo with one ground beef enchilada and one spinach and cheese enchilada, both come with a crema drizzle. I found the beef to be well seasoned and the spinach and cheese to be as well. They were a bit too oily imo. What I didn't like was the fact that the flavors were too sweet for me to enjoy. I usually like a green tomatillo sauce on my enchiladas and not a traditional enchilada sauce so it would have been nice if they 1, described the type of sauce on the enchiladas in general on their menu (because some places put verde sauce on different types of enchiladas) , and 2, offered to let you choose which sauce to put on them. They came with charro beans and house rice. I didn't like the beans too much but the rice was ok, and had some flavor. Rating: 3/5 for flavor, price was good at $15 for the combo I ordered some side sauces too because I wanted to try the cilantro mint crema and I wanted to get a side of regular crema as well. The cilantro mint crema was delicious! The flavor was refreshing and very tasty! Cilantro Mint crema: 5/5 for flavor, but 1/5 for price at a whopping $3 for just 1.5oz. Regular Crema: 1/5 was just sour cream not crema and it was $1.50 for just 0.5-1 oz. The service was good for the pickup order. TLDR: Mama Tigre's Mexican Indian fusion restaurant blends flavors well and is generally good, however a few dishes miss the mark for me (too sweet/oily with some) and their pricing is ridiculously expensive for their small portions of guacamole and side sauces. The service was decent and friendly at the counter. I'd like to come in and try some more things at a later date but I'll skip the guacamole next time and I hope they adjust prices for that and their side sauces.
