We love El Paso Dumfries. We came for a late lunch and ordered birria tacos, fajitas and a kids taco meal. I suspect they have a new chef because the pieces of meat are cut bigger. They used to cut them into much smaller pieces. It presented better this way with the larger pieces. Birria tacos were loaded and so was the kids taxi as well. Drinks were tasty and you can take to go if you don't finish. We were seated quickly and received our food pretty quick too. Parking can be a bit tough here if you have a larger suv. The food we had was really tasty. We went for lunch on a Sunday after running errands. I had the Paella Mexicano and although the shrimp and chicken were seasoned well, the steak was a bit bland and I realized that I don't like chorizo (too salty). I would order it again without those 2 if possible. Watermelon margarita was GREAT!! Definitely planning to return just to try the drinks especially the seasonal ones. Parking isn't bad. Great decor in low lit area with separate bar and plenty of space and food music. The food is priced nicely and tastes good. Service was good, but it was a little confusing trying to order specific items. I think you can only order carne asada tacos in groups of two, and chicken, beef tacos are in three. I wanted a 2 enchilada lunch special with rice and beans PLUS a carne asada taco. By the time we went through the scenarios I ended ordering 2 asada tacos and 1 enchilada. Food was good tho. Complimentary chips and salsa were really good too. Will be returning it in the area again. I consider 3 stars a good rating so I have nothing bad to say. 4-5 stars for Mexican food would be for exceptionally great food, but this was definitely good food read more

Delicious street tacos. Pleasant service, but there was a definite miscommunication with our waitress. We ordered 5 tacos, got 4. When we explained what was wrong we got two more. Of the wrong kind. Whatever, it was really tasty and we wound up with an extra taco so I guess that's a win. Music is really loud, which could account for the error. Let's start with the food. The food was very good. Reminded me of the Mexican Restaurants out in CA. There is a huge selection to choose from and the prices are reasonable. My one suggestion would be to go lighter on the seasonings. As a cook for 45 years, I find with seasonings, more does not mean better in some cases. The service was excellent. The server was quite attentive even though we were on the upper level. The ambiance is great but the floors have one dangerous serious fault. If you are not wearing the right shoes you can skate on the floor. I almost fell several times, even the bathroom was slippery. read more

Not to be confused with the El Paso in Woodbridge. I tried El Paso for the first time the other day, and let me tell you, their food is delicious. I ordered take out, so I can't comment on what the dine-in experience is like. The order came with a small side of chips and salsa, and my only complaint is that I would have liked the salsa to have a little kick to it. It was tasty, but no kick to it at all. For my meal, I ordered the Mole Tots, the Loaded Fries, and the Birria Tacos. The Mole Tots are just that: tater tots smothered on mole sauce. These were fantastic. The mole on the tots was savory and had a nice low-level heat to it. The loaded fries were drenched in toppings, and I chose to add chorizo. Very filling, and very flavorful. The birria tacos were good, but didn't knock my socks off. I really wanted to be blown away by them, but wasn't. They were delicious, for sure, but not as awesome as I would have liked. We had a small group of 9 in remembrance of my wife's mother's passing. We would go to variety of restaurants each year to her liking. The restaurant is located on Rt. 234/Dumfries Rd, just off 95. The exterior has limited of parking, some park in spaces available and some park in the grass. As you walk in, the interior has a small bar on the left, the main dining room on the right with a loft, seatings are tight but manageable. Friendly staff and good teamwork. We ordered 9 items: 1) Queso dip 2) Queso dip with chorizo 3) Enchiladas verde 4) Birria tacos 5) Mole tots 6) Fajita Texanas 7) Tres leches 8) Churros 9) Poblano burrito. Though the cheese sauce was tasty but unfortunately both of the queso dip (regular) and with chorizo fell flat. They were water down and wasn't at the right consistency. The enchiladas verde was also tasty and a little bland. The birria tacos were mediocre. The mole tots was interesting. The tater tots itself was over fried and hard before it was topped with mole and other components. The texanas fajitas were delicious, will definitely get that again. For the kids meal, were on point. The poblano burrito was tasty but a little bland. All ingredients were separated down the center inside the burrito instead of being incorporated together. For desserts, they ran out of sopapilla (mom's favorite) so we ordered the tres leches and churros. They were both delicious. Music was playing and it wasn't loud which was great. When it's a Tuesday it's only right you participate in "Taco Tuesday"! Drinks are strong and plentiful and tacos are flavorful and inexpensive. I mean what more can anybody ask for. We tried a variety of tacos: chicken, carne asada, chorizo and shrimp to be exact lol with rice and beans (pinto and black beans). All were cooked well and flavorful. Where do all the locals go? So, in a suburb of Montclair you will find El Paso Mexican Grill. The exterior appeared unassuming. When you enter though, you might feel a mental transport to Mexico simply because of the decor and the food aroma! I had the taco salad with carne asada. I don't think I've had a salad like that and I say this in a good way. There was very little vegetable stuff (like lettuce, tomato, chiles). The tortilla bowl was filled with carne asada! Yup! Very little cheese and I didn't get any guacamole but Yup! a big serving of the carne asada. My lunch partner had a dish, I think steak and eggs and it was also a huge portion. Since I was there for lunch and facing a long day and night ahead of me, I opted OUT of the margaritas (and YUP! the table next to me had a margarita and it looked delicious) So, I'm saving that for my next visit. Very unassuming building from the outside which in my book means it's going ro excellent mexican food! Experience proved correct again. Chips and salsa were good. Kid's meal reasonably priced (drinks are seperate) and the portions were generous. Even my 10 year old, who wanted to order off the adult menu, was satisfied. I ordered online and picked up. The food was ready quickly, I took it and left. I was happy that the serving of chips and salsa were a one person serving. Not the best I ever had, but not bad. I went to eat my birria tacos, but they did not include the requested plasticware. I am staying in a hotel, so this was a huge inconvenience. Forget eating my rice and beans! Birria tacos are dipped in the consommé, then grilled. These were just lightly grilled and not dipped, so they didn't have as much flavor as most I've had. None of this would've gotten me to leave a review, even though disappointing, I would've just chocked it up to a bad night, BUT then I opened my fried ice cream, excited to eat it. I think I'm becoming biased to Mexican Food. I'm from the south and grew up on amazing soul food (and I LOVE it). However, when I became a man and able to choose my own cuisine I kinda gravitated towards Mexican food. El Paso has become my safe space for really good food and service. I've been multiple times and the food is consistently fresh and quite delicious. And, baby...the drinks! They have this Sangria Margarita and it is not for the faint of heart. It is so good but be careful; I'm a big guy and it has caught me lacking every single time. I recommend El Paso to every one I meet. The staff is friendly and honest about their favs on the menu. I loved this place but not after today. I was sat in a corner with crumbs and napkins under the table. When I sat down, I was given stale chips that were wet. I then sat at the table for 25 minutes and no one came by to put in my order. The air was on full blast and the plastic decorations on the ceiling were blowing dust over everyone and their food sadly. One star for this. I went to the bar and put in my order 5 mins later, a server came and smiled and told me she was sorry for showing up late. She asked for my order, I said I put it at the bar, she came back and said the bartender had no order. I am guessing the man I spoke to at the bar didn't take my order or there was a miscommunication issue? Still unsure. It is okay tho! It was quiet inside, not much traffic. Menu reminded me more of texmex than authentic Mexican. I ordered two street tacos de lengua. The tortillas were good but the lengua was chewy instead of tender and abnormally cut into larger pieces than the traditional way. There wasn't much flavor but the salsa helped. The spot is very colorfully decorated though and spacious, probably much busier in the evenings or on the weekends. Server was polite and spoke English and Spanish. Good food. I almost thought I back in Texas or California. The salsa served with chips was just meh but everything else was good. From the hostess to the waitress and other servers everyone was quick, polite and friendly. They were quick to respond and showed up just when they were needed. What more can you ask for? The decor and furniture are bright and colorful as are the murals on the walls. Everything screams Mexican restaurant and easily leads into conversations. I was stuck in traffic and stopped for an early dinner and I enjoyed it. Lots of families and couples frequent the restaurant.
