But once I discovered this restaurant on Yelp, I knew I wanted to try it. It was hard to find the time because the hours listed on Yelp said it was only open on weekends, but it turns out, they recently changed their hours and are now open Wednesday-Sunday. Out of everything I ate, the pupusas were, by far, the best. All of them were great: the steak, chicken and pork. We also ordered the carne asada, which is listed as #6 on the menu. It was basically a skirt steak with rice, beans and a salad. The steak was okay -- a little tough and too done, but overall it hit the spot. The salad had no dressing to my knowledge, which was weird. The rice and beans were fine. Lastly, we finished with some banana bread, which was nice, but definitely not very sweet. I should probably eat more desserts like this that are less sugary, but I'm kind of addict at this point, so I do wish this had a little more of a sweet bite to it. Overall, this was a cool experience and I see why the ratings are so strong.

They serve seafood but the star of the menu is birria. I have never been to a place where you can get birria served so many ways. In tacos or a burrito of course, but also on a pizza, in ramen soup or with pasta. I ordered mine with linguine, accompanied by a horchata agua fresca and their tres leches cake. The birria pasta came with thin spaghetti rather than linguine that day, but I prefer spaghetti anyway so that was fine. The pasta was cooked perfectly. So was the birria--very tender and moist, with the juice providing a fine sauce for the pasta. Onions and cilantro optionally included--I had some and it was great. You get a huge portion that could be split two or even three ways, or save some for a future meal. It would reheat well. The tres leches cake was a very good example of one--it was attractively presented in a small cup, with a dense cream (Mexican crema? I think so) topping and a little caramel drizzle. The cake was well soaked and it was nice and sweet. Again, shareable. The horchata was served in a cute souvenir plastic cup. It had a cookie crumble rim put on with horchata syrup so you could drink it kind of like a salted tequila glass, but sweet. That presentation didn't quite work--it came with a lid that would not quite fit with the coating on, and it made the outside of the cup sticky. Good idea but maybe try something else. It cost $8, which made me want better execution. But that's a minor complaint. The people were very nice and the food was overall quite good, and you can't find anything else like it around here. Definitely worth coming out for a try. The Plaza De Los Food trucks continues to develop--the owners are in the process of adding quite a lot of covered seating, filling in part of the center area that really wasn't being used. It might have enough seating now to support the average of 10 food trucks that park there. But there still isn't enough parking, and I don't know what else they can do to fix that. I went there due to seeing their instagram story about a $10 meal deal (2 pupusas, a pastelito, and a soda) but they had run out of pastelitos so I had to quickly choose something so I'm thankful that they were happy to help answer any questions. It's a small food truck located in the same parking lot with Fiesta off Paton and Cavalcade so there's no seating or real space to eat (unless you eat in your car). They're also honest about the wait time. They said it would take 15-20 minutes and they didn't go over their time estimate. I have only had pupusas a handful of times (I'm from a small town in WA state that only had Mexican restaurants since only Mexicans lived there, so don't judge ) and can say these were the best I've had thus far. They were freshly made and piping hot when I got them (I had to put the bag down from my lap because it was too hot) and remained so throughout eating them. The cheese was gooey and stringy and their salsa has a nice little kick to it. It wasn't greasy or too salty which is always a plus. I ordered the revueltas (pork & cheese) and added beans to them. They are HUGE so be mindful when ordering them (they also taste better the next day if you have any leftover). These were definitely worth the price.
