I crave these flautas at home so it's only right to satisfy the craving when visiting. The staff is pleasant and they try to keep the place clean. Anytime I'm in town, I must go to El Cometa! If you are looking for a place with great flautas, this is your spot. I believe they have 3 locations around the city that close at 4am. The flautas plate is so good and I like that you can order 4, 6, or 8 and there is a salsa/toppings bar where you can grab anything you need. Their horchata and Flan are great as well! Absolutely Blown Away! This place has Five stars all day and all night! They've got a great salsa bar that's kept stocked and clean. I'm from Central Texas and the food is very similar to Tex Mex can be very hard to find in El Paso. Flautas Cometa were perfectly fried and generously stuffed. And covered with fresh cojita cheese. This is my go to spot for flautas. The best part that I love about this place is that they are open till 4am!!! Crazy right??? I've only been to this location once ... I normally go to the one on Viscount and it's also good. The salsa bar is always full and the señoras that work there make sure to keep it clean. Some of the señoras there aren't too friendly because one of them looked like she gave me el mal de ojo.... If you know what I mean. Maybe she was just having a bad day but I was only there to pick up my food and leave. They give you complimentary chips you just need to ask for them. This location is typically always busy. The staff is fast and cordial. I would recommend getting their 6 piece flautas with all the toppings. We got there about 3pm which was a great time because it wasn't packed to the gills as it normally is. After a while of not getting our drinks and our chips I looked up and saw why nothing was getting done. If you have a restaurant full of people and are understaffed the last thing you're going to do is chit chat with the cashier and the only other waiter/waitress and therefore not serving your customer. Not once did any of them approach us after being served and while I don't mind getting up to get more drink, I had to get in line to buy one can of soda, tell me why the cashier not just hand that can of soda to me at that moment, no, I had to wait 30 minutes for them to stop chit chatting to get my soda. I literally got a To Go order so why would i leave them a tip?!? & it's optional, i don't have to tip if i don't want to!!!!! I'm calling at 10am sharp when they open so i can file a complaint on whatever employee did this to me without my consent. The food was great! But, having thieves work for this company is upsetting!!! $4 is $4. If i didn't give it, then i am offended & disrespected. This is one of my favorite places to come to when I am having a hankering for fLautas de papa. The flautas are cooked just right and taste amazing especially when paired with the salsa de guacamole. The salsa bar is also pretty good and yoU get a good variety. I don't like that you have to wait over twenty minutes For your food and drink to be brought out, especially when you are munching away on cHips and salsa, a drink would be handy. If you want a place that has some bomb a$$ steak tacos, this is the place. It's all about the Bistek con Queso. The sliced meat is so well a marinated, topped with melted cheese and some warm corn tortillas, these tacos, while so simple, are so flavorful. Topped with their delicious red or green salsa, my only complaint is that I wish their portions were bigger, because the tacos are so good, I can finish a whole plate by myself. My wife ordered the flauta plate, which came with 4 beef flautas, topped with sour cream, avocado, tomato, and queso fresco (or maybe it's cotija). These were also very good, but the same as most other flautas I've tried around town. Service was very good, as we were checked up on by three different employees several times during our visit. The restroom was clean, seating was well spread apart, and sanitizer and a temperature machine was available at the front door (Covid precautions). This place could easily be a 5 star review. If they could expand on their salsa bar to go with your complimentary tostadas, and offer a slightly larger drink selection (maybe introduce some jarritos in the mix), this could edge into the 5 star mark. read more

THE GOOD- I read most of the reviews and most are spot on... "affordable and good customer service", "good bang for the buck" The Tacos de Alambre with out cheese was very flavorful. The bell peppers and onions were not over cooked. The seasoning is not overly salty or salt less... Just right =) They bring you tortillas chips when you sit down... You can grab your own sides from the salsa bar...to go or to dine-in. Includes jalapeños, onions, red salsa, green salsa, limes, pico de gallo, cucumber, radishes and salsa gucamole I have to give em props on the quesadillas.. OMG! Now that's a real quesadilla... The cheese is so damn good that they use is delicious! I 86'd the ham from the quesadilla cause I don't eat pork. It comes with onions a few slices of avocado and tomato... I could eat 2 of em easily but chose to maintain and not over do it. They offer several drinks but no refills. They do offer a pitcher in case a glass isn't enough for you. A lot of empty plates and families... Very kid friendly =) They have mastered each dish on a simple and straight forward menu with good portions for the price. THE BAD I'll start right off that the hand-written signs have got to go. (See pics) Nobody wants to enter a business and be told what you can do and what you cannot do. Before you even walk in there are signs on poster boards half hazardly taped to the glass windows. Then you walk in and bam! More bright yellow signs with instructions. Enough about that... I have visites the original El Cometa in Juarez and these are pretty similar. I enjoyed the flautas. I like my plate with rice and beans hence the 4 star but these are served the way they intended. Theres a little salsa/ condiment bar too. I also ordered the tacos al pastor and those were a bust. They were not all what I was expecting. Not like al pastor in my opinion. They were lackluster. The aguas frescas are very sugary and nothing out of the norm. The service is pretty fast and the food comes out hot. read more

After talking to many locals, El Cometa was very highly recommended, especially for their flautas. Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to try their specialty dish, but had an amazing experience trying one of their other dishes! Although a small menu, they check the mark on flavor for every one of their dishes. I had the beef plate, which was some of the most well-seasoned beef I had ever tried. I love that they have a salsa bar, where you can grab fresh veggies, jalepenos, and different sauces to try. The chips that they serve here are one of my most favorites I've had at any Mexican place, along with their green salsa. I gave this place a 4 star only because it absolutely wrecked my insides the following morning, worse than any Mexican restaurant I've been to. Their chocolate flan is to die for as well. The only downside with this place is that it gets very packed and sometimes they run out of baked potatoes which is super disappointing when they do. Was not impressed at all, would actually take half a star off. I grew up in El Paso and have never cared for Juaréz food. This is what it basically is, if your a fan, go ahead try it. The tacos were over stuffed and topped with so many unneeded extras. My son ordered a quesadilla, but was disappointed he had ham in it. We also ordered a burrito, which was not called that, and it was way bigger than my youngest son. You do have the option of getting between 2-4 tacos but the menu won't suggest it. These are my favorite Flauntas I have came across so far in El Paso.. the tacos are good also but when I come here I only get the El Cometa special flauntas . These come in 4,6,8 in an order and come smothered in delicious Mexican crumb cheese and like an authentic creamy sour cream sauce that I cannot find anywhere else... Tried this place once and once only. The only thing I enjoyed were their salsas. Which were good, except for the gallo. But the food we ordered wasn't as good. We had tacos, but their meat was dry, especially their al pastor. The al pastor meat also has too much fat. I couldn't eat most of it. I know some people like fat but I prefer al pastor with a lot less fat. Half of my meat had fat. The pico de gallo had gone bad. How does pico go bad. It had a nasty flavor like very old lime. Then some of the tortillas look like a truck ran over them. These tacos cost too much and I would prefer taco tote for that price. You can try it for yourself and if you like it, good for you but this was my experience and and not worth the trip. There are better places I prefer. read more
