I LOVE THIS TYPE PLACE. I decided on a Tamale and one of my favorite items GORDITA and Mexican Coke. (Whenever you get a drink DIG down to get COLD ONES.) $7.00 I parked myself on one of picnic tables and waited for my feast. A few min and it was passed through the window to me. (I was the only person of NON COLOR there. I wonder if they talked about ME!) The Chicken Tamale was very good. Hot and not soggy from sitting in steam. The GORDITA was FANTASTIC steak with cheese lettuce and very good tasting tomatoes. The bread was so very good... crispy tasty and packed full of good stuff. I should have taken a picture but the sun was bright and I could not see the screen. I may come back tomorrow. For JUST GORDITAS.

After checking out the menu I really wanted the 12 oz ribeye so that's what I ordered. Instead, I got a flank steak that I wouldn't even feed my dog and was still charged the ribeye prices. Someone in my party ordered the same ribeye, I thought maybe our orders got mixed up but they too got the same flank steak. I did not finish the steak due to a weird smell it had and my stomach is already hurting. All prices are unnecessarily high and I will not be back. Not suitable for parties of 6 or more was charged an extra $10 just for that sole reason. I would understand this policy better if it was a large and busy restaurant. Tortillas were delicious and homemade.

We have driven by this place several times and always said we need to try it out... It always looks…read morebusy, so must be good. Well, we finally stopped and here are my thoughts... Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed how noisy it was, not from patrons or music, but the kitchen was on the other side of the wall and you could hear everything. It's dimly lit, without too many windows. What windows they did have, don't allow much light in at all. The color on the wall is on the darker side, which doesn't help lighten it up. We were seated by a large party that was so loud, it would drown out the music overhead, and the music wasn't set low, but low enough you could hear the person across from you. The staff was quick and friendly... I wish I remembered the waitress' name. She went above and beyond. As for the food, we were brought out chips and salsa when we were seated. The chips weren't thin but warm and fresh. The salsa wasn't spicy, but still good. We ordered a small queso, a little milder than I expected, but you can order it with chorizo. The margaritas were strong but refreshing after a hot summer day. I went with the old standby to compare to other places... Chicken chimichanga. It was tasty, not overly seasoned, and not dried out. I did add a little spice to kick it up a little. The rice I really enjoyed, simple, not overly flavored, something to cleanse the pallet after biting into something with spice. My dinner was very fresh tasting, nothing tasted as if it was sitting around. Overall, a great new addition to Calera!

Along with that their obviously very in touch with their customer base I heard them refer to people by name, catch up with them about life and it just made the ambiance that perfect southern hospitality along with some of the best Hispanic food you can find. Honestly hope they do well enough to open a full shop as I'd be the first one at the door.
