It's been many, many years since I was last here. However, my experience today deeply disappointed me. I bought two juices and two rice plates. The juices both tasted very artificial and I even saw them use powder instead of fresh fruit. The rice was soggy and the meat was chewy and tasted old. Needless to say I will not be returning as there are too many other restaurants offering similar food and drinks at much better quality just down the block. This place has been around for so long. I've been coming here with my family for years now. One of the very first tapioca places in Houston area. Now they're everywhere. This place is still a lot cheaper than most places and I love that. The service is always great and I love that about them. I come here a lot to do homework as well. The inside looks very nice now! Tap house is severely underrated. Their drinks and meals have always been consistent for the years I've been coming here. Additionally, the drinks are waaayy cheaper than the other tap places! However, it's all dependent on your personal preference. If I'm feeling more of a milky milk tea, tap house is what id pick. I also enjoy their snacks/meals! My go to is the crispy chicken nugget meal, level 5 spice. It's a pretty large meal (for me), and I always end up taking some to go. This place has plenty of parking and is right next to Hokkaido (Sushi Restaurant) and many other shops. Their drinks comes in two different sizes. Regular and large. It is an extra 0.55 for a large. Most of their drink prices start from $2.77-$3.50. This price does not include toppings. They also serve combo meals that comes with a drink. I would recommend the popcorn chicken combo meal. I've gone to all the Tap houses (Austin, Dallas, and Houston) and I have to say that the Houston location is the best by a long shot. They don't have the smelly issue like they do in Dallas (or Richardson to be exact), you don't ever have to wait too long for your order like you would in Austin and it's generally a really clean place. That's saying a lot for an Asian establishment. I love the boba here. It's never too tough or too soft and they add just enough sugar in the mix to make it taste good without messing with the flavor of the drink. And they're dirt cheap. I don't know how these people make money besides from their food sales. They're prices are lower than all other boba places that I've been to. I've tried nearly all the milk teas and haven't disliked one yet. This is definitely a great establishment with top notch drinks. read more

Tap House is my guilty pleasure. I ate it a bunch while at university in Austin and found the Richardson/Dallas location disappointing. My Houston friends told me it was even better here (cheaper too). WHAT?! I got my classic chicken steak combo level 4 spicy with milk tea, and okay, yeah they're right. The coconut cream tea is so unbelievably good and the tapioca here is much better than others, solid size and has a great firm texture on the outside and is pleasantly chewy. There are so many boba places in Chinatown. Being new to the town, my hubby and I are on an adventure to try as many places as we can! Tapioca House has a delicious Milk tea and Almond milk tea! They were good about my custom order of half sweeter, but they didn't have non fat milk. It was worth it though. The boba was also chewy and delicious. The tea house was spacious, and I enjoyed the chill lounge atmosphere that it had. I wouldn't mind hanging out with my friends for an afternoon or late night drink. I needed a place to decompress after a stressful day of house hunting and I was craving bubble tea. This place definitely felt like a hangout for high school/ college aged kids. There was a good amount of socializing and "studying" happening so this place is decent for both settings. I tried the honey jasmine milk tea with tapioca. The bubbles were a little too soft and sticky for my taste but I like the flavor of the tea. The service wasn't very good (I don't really expect much at these types of places btw)- every question I asked (what is your most popular flavor? what's the wifi password? where's the key to the bathroom?) was received with a cold stone face and a shared laugh between workers making me wonder if I was somehow just expected to know the answers/ the butt of a joke. It made me feel like I was in high school again - this I would not wish on my worst enemies. Bottom line - the tea was alright and the atmosphere was not inviting. This place is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I live in midtown, but it's not all that rare for the allure of the level 5 spicy nugget meal to send me cruising down 59 to Bellaire so I can partake. For an extremely reasonable $5 or $6, you can get a nugget meal with sprouts, rice, an egg, green beans and, if you're lucky enough to be on Tap House Santa's good list, fried basil. And like those cheesy Ronco infomercials say, "That's not all!" You also get a pretty tasty milk tea to wash it down with. Unlike 4 easy payments of $19.95, the price here is well worth it. My only real knock against Tap House is that the rest of the menu is pretty much irrelevant. The pancakes are crap, the mushrooms are decent at best, and after trying the pork once (it was all I needed), I realized there's no reason to look any deeper than the nuggets. The bottom line: If the tapioca were fresher and the rest of the menu wasn't blah to crap, this would be a 5 star standout. As it is, the nuggets and lavender milk tea are still enough to drag me there at least a couple times a month. read more

I think living in Los Angeles has completely spoiled me. We are so used to the short drive to Half & Half to get our honey boba green teas and taro teas (that uses real taro, not just powder). Not surprisingly, we have been on a hunt for some good taro tea in Houston. Unfortunately, Tapioca House is not it. The honey green tea was terrible. I'm so used to the honey mixing with the strong yet complementary taste of the green tea, topped off with some boba. Yet when I drank it, I tasted some honey but absolutely no tea. It was like sipping flavored ice water. I tried taking a sip..and another sip... I shook it around just in case it wasn't mixed well. It got worse. And the tapioca was straight out MUSHY. When you start drinking the green tea just to get rid of it (not because it's so good), you know it's not a place you want to frequent regularly. I regretted that I didn't go to McDonald's to get some sweet tea instead. My wife was actually pretty gracious about the taro milk tea. She said it was sweet, but just not enough taro. She gave it a 2- 3 star. However, with the lackluster service (most of the staff was interested in something on their laptop) I'll give this place a 2. Tapioca House is my favorite bubble tea spot in Chinatown. My SO and I go here after dinner every time we are in the area. It can get a little packed in the evenings but I've never had a long wait. They have a wide variety of milk teas, smoothies, and green tea flavors. They also have a variety of toppings; tapioca pearls, jellies, and my favorite popping bubbles. Popping balls come in a variety of flavors including strawberry, mango, lychee and others. I usually like to get a fruit flavored green tea like mango with tapioca pearls and lychee popping bubbles. It's a great after dinner treat. If you go early and happen to be hungry they have some great snacks. My favorites are the popcorn chicken and the green onion pancake! Like a lot of people, I was introduced to Tapioca House while living in Austin. I'm a huge fan of Taiwanese food, especially their fried street-style tidbits so Tap House is right up my alley. Out of all the Taiwanese joints I've frequented, I would have to say along with Coco's Café in Austin, Tapioca House is one of my favorites. Firstly, for any bubble tea fans, the drinks here are top notch. One of my favorites, Jasmine Milk Tea, is done perfectly here. Another thing they have here is Lavender Milk Tea, a really special surprise which I would highly recommend. Like their Jasmine Milk Tea, you can really taste the fragrance of the flower along with the sweetness and creaminess of the milk tea. Something that I've seen that they offer (in Austin at least) is Rose Milk Tea which I'll be sure to try next time since their floral teas are so excellently done here. Secondly, the food here is great! I'm a fan of their Spicy Chicken Nugget Combo. It comes with your drink of choice and you can choose your spiciness level (1-5, 5 being the spiciest). I stick with 4, I think most palates would be able to handle even the 4. The dish comes with Taiwanese style chicken nuggets. The nuggets aren't double-deep fried, so expect to taste more of the seasoning and chicken and not the breading. You also get the seasoned and deep fried basil leaves over the nuggets which are good. It comes with rice covered in shredded meat, sautéed beansprouts with tofu, sautéed green beans and a hardboiled egg. All of the sides are delicious. Make sure to get a little bit of everything in every bite, everything complements each other in this dish. Their spicy squid balls are also a sure thing and can be eaten as just a snack if you're not too hungry. There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is located in a strip mall next to Café la Tea on Bellaire. The food and drinks are super cheap. For under 8 dollars you can get a full meal and a drink to boot! read more

What I love about Tapioca House is that it is really cheap, has fast FREE wifi, quick customer service, stamp card, and lots of tables. My favorite drink is the jasmine milk tea with boba. For the price you pay its pretty damn good. I got the chicken curry bento which comes with veggies an egg a side of rice the chicken curry and a drink of choice for around 6.50$. Drinks alone are around 3$ so food is an extra 3$ which is not that bad a deal and was pretty damn good especially if you a struggling college student. I've pretty much tried every single tapioca joint in and around Houston. Tapioca House has really good milk tea(s). Their almond milk tea is yum!...well, depends on the day, but 9 times outta 10, they make it taste good. Their lavender milk tea is also very good. Not too sweet. The inside is dingy and I rarely sit inside or linger for too long. It's just not my cup of tea. This place gets pretty busy with middle schoolers and high schoolers, so it can get loud! I wouldn't recommend going here if you need to get studying done...or if you need to have a very important conversation. I ordered one of their pork bbq 'box' meals (is that what they're called?). It came with rice, a boiled egg, some sprouts, and green beans. It was pretty good for what you pay for. I'd recommend you try this place if you want some good milk tea. As far as their smoothies and fruitier drinks, I cannot say much because when I get boba, I usually stick to almond, lavender, or plain milk tea. Free Wi-Fi (ask for the key code at the counter), but whether it actually works is a hit or miss. Depends where you sit. Also, the last time I was there, they accept cash only unless your order is at least $5. So bring dollar bills (apparently they always need these).
