Probably my favorite place in the area to get boba. I could be saying that just because Tapioca Express has always been my go-to boba place. Every flavor I've gotten has never failed to please my taste buds. I love the boba itself because it is squishy and soft. Unlike many other places, the boba is either undercooked or hardens easily within 5 minute of receiving your drink. I've tried everything from the yogurt, mocha, taro, lychee, peach, honey dew, milk tea, thai tea, etc. You name it, I've tried it. I must admit, my all-time favorite is milk tea. I've had boba from all local restaurants in the surrounding area and well, this just seems to be the one my taste buds love. Eh, the service was fine initially. When i received my crispy chicken, i was disappointed because it was very overcooked and dry. I tolerated that because its usually ok but what put it over the top was the hair that was in my food. I brought it to the attention to the employee all i got was "thats weird our cook is bald"... thats right because no one has hair there! Anyhow, i was so grossed out i didnt event want to push it. I've been to quite a few Tapioca Express, I actually came here for Lunch as opposed to just boba. The lunch menu was not as broad as I had hoped. But they did have the crispy chicken I had wanted to order. I ordered the combo meal they offered, and I have to say WHAT IN THE HECK IS THAT GROUND MEAT WITH EGG?! O_o? I was hoping it would be good, but the flavor was DEFINITELY not to my liking. That sauce it was in...it just destroyed the hard boiled egg I could have enjoyed. And there wasn't much to altering the order either, it's a take it or leave it. So I didn't like it that much. Don't get me wrong. The milk tea is possibly average at best and the boba always tastes OLD. The food is even more disappointing. You can just tell immediately that the quality is poor. The crispy chicken is soggy and actually tastes more like fish balls than chicken. My stomach regretted eating those afterwards. I've come here more than once because it's very conveniently located in the town center and parking is easy but after my last meal there I certainly won't be coming back. Tapioca Express, though it is chain, is my favorite place to get boba, hands down. They were pioneers in Cerritos back in the early 2000s, and are one of the long-standing eateries down at the Cerritos Towne Center (that says something). Though much of their menu has expanded so much since I was just a young teenager, the quality of their boba drinks are still the same. Why of ALL boba places in the entire country do I insist of drinking theirs? (And trust me, I've tried my fair share of boba drinks) Tapioca Express does somthing that not many other boba place do: keep their tapioca pearls (boba) warm. It's not rocket science, so it just baffles me why more places don't do this, but the balls taste so much better warm (haha, that sounds like something Chef from South Park would sing, but there's no better way to put it). The bottom line is most shops simply put stale boba into your drink, so you can masticate through their chewy, tough pearls. But no, Tapioca Express keeps their boba warm even if you order a cold drink, so they can easily slide down your gullet without even having to chew them. Ingenius! (Warning: not recommended for people with sensitive throats, you're at your own risk here) I brought my farm-raised, corn-fed, all-American boyfriend (at the time) from Southern Indiana to try their boba after hearing me rave about the warm pearls. I could tell he was slightly hesitant, since the restaurant where he had his first boba drink, though it was in Kansas, was not that great. Sure enough, he soon proclaimed that he became a fan of their milk tea boba, and to my astonishment, kept taking the drink out of my hands to take additional sips. *sigh* ahh...the memories! I used to frequent this Tapioca Express back in my Cerritos College days when picking up my baby brother from elementary school. I also remember the creepy lady that worked here, who despite how creepy she may have been, we continued to visit location. **Fast forward ten years later** The service is great and so is the boba. It isn't the cheapest tea in the world, but it's definitely not the most expensive either. They also added more food on the menu and I appreciate more options for my snack cravings! And I have had Asahi, Rubios, Pieology, and the other places too many times for lunch. I decided to grab something with rice. I saw the Crisp Pork Chop meal. It had a pickled egg, cabbage, ground chicken, and rice. When I opened it at home, the crisp pork was no longer crisp. The batter was soggy and it did not adhere to the pork. The pork was greasy and there was too much unedible fat. The pork chop itself was overcooked. Also, there were chopped bone pieces inside of some of the soggy batter that were sharp. I almost bit into one of the pieces of bone. I could have bit into the roof of my mouth but luckily I was chewing slowly. The grounded chicken was salty as f as well as oily. I ate just 2 bites of it and tossed the rest. The cabbage was boiled. The picked egg was overcooked and salty. My mom makes it and I have had my share of picked egg. This version was sad, overcooked, hard, and salty. Did I mention that I WASTED $8+ tax on this meal? Also, there was no napkin, no fork, no chopstick, nothing in my to-go plastic bag. The decor is minimal but it was hot. They had a fan. A FAN TO COOL DOWN THE PLACE. I was just sitting and waiting my meal but I was sweating. And I was glad to leave but I felt bad for the workers. I was going to try the Crisp Chicken Meal, which is just their popcorn chicken with the same set-up, just replace the crisp pork chop. I started coming here more often since I've been working in the area. This place has the standard selection of boba drinks with a few new ones posted in paper on the walls. I never really see this place too crowded but I do feel like it can take a while for me to get my milk tea. In comparison with other places, the milk tea here is pretty good and I always ask for 1/2 sugar since I'm trying to be a *little* healthier. I use to like the Milk Tea from Tapioca Express... But, when I went here recently, it tasted powdery for some odd reason. So I don't know if something was wrong... service however was pretty quick for a drink. Didn't try any of the food, but from the past, I've tried their popcorn chicken and it was my favorite before. But now you have all these new places where they serve them cheaper and better tasting. Seriously the Best Boba Spot in all of Cerritos, the boba itself is so soft and chewy just the way it should be . Brian is my favorite person to make my drink but everyone does a excellent job. I've never had a bad experience here, they get busy after school so I know to avoid those times, but at the end of the day the wait is so worth thei quality of their drinks . This place is like my second home, I'm always here! I love the milk teas, almond, jasmine, Thai, original, they're all yummy. I also love the watermelon icy, the milk tea snow bubble, and the coconut snow bubble. I used to get the peach iced tea and the cantaloupe juice, and they're good and fruity, too, although they're reallyyyyyy sweet. The boba is nice and chewy; it's especially fresh if you come right when they open. Yay warm boba! The coconut jelly is good too, nice and light. The only bad thing I've tried lately is the pudding - I feel like it's not very soft anymore, and kind of hard to get through the straw. My favorite boba place shut down (bad location) so I was on a vigorous search for a new one. I came across Tapioca Express while going to the movie theater, which is just next to it. I then ordered a Vanilla Snow Bubble with mixed boba, which I had never tried before, and I ABSOLUTELY loved it. There boba is so yummy and you can tell it's cooked well. Two days from that date I took my mom so that way she can try it out as well (which btw she is not a huge fan of boba but is a fan of milk tea, slushies, etc) but to my surprise she got boba in her milk tea and she loved it. Now every time we want boba we go here and she and I always order our vanilla snow bubble and milk tea. I personally favor the pork chop meal with green tea (all meals come with a free black or green tea) and the squid balls and calamari are delicious as well. I ordered milk tea with boba and there were pieces of paper in my drink. Everytime i would take a sip, i would feel small pieces of paper in my mouth and had to spit them out. At first i thought it was just one piece so maybe it won't be a big deal but as i kept drinking i found even more. And there were alot. I didn't take it back to show them because I was watching a movie at the movie theater and i only started to drink it when the movie started. Please be careful next time. This is my review for their lunch, @ $5, the taiwanese ground pork on rice is a very good deal. It comes with veggies, taiwanese flavored ground pork on rice, and stewed egg, and a drink (iced green or black tea). So far it's the cheapest complete meal I've seen in that shopping center. I think out of all places in Cerritos to get boba, this is the best. All the other places I've been to have either overcooked the boba so it's too squishy, or havent cooked it enough( meaning its sorta hard on the inside). I always get the Thai tea for two reasons: 1. The taste is delish! 2. They make it strong. It actually tastes like tea rather than the sugary flavored milk other places offer. Pros: Over 100 flavors to choose from. You can asked for a mixed drink (ex. half melon half kiwi) Friendly service! Awesome boba! Cons: not so great for groups( the shop is very tiny so most people like to sit outside). also there are not many eemployees so if its a hot day expect a minimum 5-7 min waiting time. Although they do serve food there's not much variety. It is after all a place to get drinks. the food that they do serve is very deep fried( ex. crispy chicken, tempura, calamari) Kinda pricy considering their regular is a small and their large is really a medium.The drinks are about 3 dollars. Low-grade boba drinks considering what they charge (around $3.50 a drink, more if you have add-ons.) If you ask for less sugar all they do is water down the pre-made teas. The only time I ever stop by for boba is if I'm catching a movie at the town center, and really has a craving for it, otherwise it's just not worth it. I haven't had tapioca express since my high school days, so when we saw this one we ordered a thai tea. I remember tapioca express being good and well, this one was a meh. The drink was powderish tasting and just didnt taste great, but the boba was really good. The boba to drink ratio was pretty good I had more than enough boba after the drink was gone. Idk maybe the thai tea I get back in Temecula from some mom and pop restaurant is just well made [which is bad bc there is a huge Asian community here vs Temecula].
