Our experience here was so very sad. It was our first evening in Madrid, getting acquainted with the city and pretty late by European standards for dinner.
We were looking around for a meal and were approached by one of the staff just as we happened upon the menu. He insisted on having the best daily fish and it being made to order. My dining companion wanted fish.
This is where it begins.
No seats were available inside the restaurant so we got seated outside on their patio, which sits in an alleyway. The only table available was wiggly and unstable. The people on either side of us had recognized this problem and chose not to sit there. I used paper and lodged it beneath one of the table legs for stability.
We browsed the menu and settled upon fish. My dining companion asked the server what kind of fish it was and if it contained skeletal. He assured her there was none. She went ahead and placed her order, while I went with calamari. Our plates arrived and it was an eyesore. My companion's fish was the tiniest thing ever. It was a severely malnourished fish with its skeletal poking through and very little flesh. We laughed because clearly there was some miscommunication. My calamari was also a small quantity and when tried, tasted super bland.
We called the server back and explained how he assured us that the grilled fish contained no skeleton but showed him that it did and was impossible to eat. He said, he can't be responsible for the fish containing skeleton! Yes, but that's not what you said initially..! He took back the fish and she ordered a salad instead. I stuck with my dry and flavourless calamari. It was a pathetic portion. Neither of us was satisfied with their meal. To make matters worse, we were charged for the complimentary bread they brought out to our table!
