they were out of a lot of items on the menu we wanted to order. the few items we did get were tasty, but could find equally good for less money as surrounding restaurants. the restaurant was crowded and my party of four had to wait 20 minutes for a table on a monday night. the inside of the restaurant was very cute and i liked the decor

    Yummy place

Nice and cozy spot for great tapas. This place was amazing, staff was welcoming and food was delicious. Definitely try this place out and order as many tapas as you can. My favorite was the Spanish tortilla

For what it was it was good enough. Beer and burger was tasty, patatas bravas was alright as was the mini jamon and toast with tomato.

The menu is vast, and nothing is terribly expensive. Everything we tried was excellent, and we only tried a small portion of the menu.

Spain is known for tapas, so you'd expect a place with tapas In the name (twice) would have to be good. Tapa Tapa certainly is, and it didn't hurt that it's a 5 minute walk from our hotel. There are 43 different small plate offerings here. We only tried 5, and all of them were really good. We're in Madrid for 9 days, so the math works out. I can definitely see coming back again and again to try something new, or enjoy a favorite. We orders 5 plates, which were brought out as soon as they were ready. In the States, there's too much of an emphasis on a clean break between appetizer and dinner, but not so here. The Brochetas de Langostinos (skewered prawns) were served with a very mild wasabi. They were fresh and flavorful, and I thought to myself that I could happily have ordered 5 of these... ...until I tried the pulled pork empanadas. The pulled pork stuffing is flavorful, and the exterior was not as crispy as it would have been if it were freshly made, but it was tasty. And, I could have seen myself ordering 5 of these until...well, I think you can guess where this is going. The huevos estrellados con gambas is fried eggs with prawns over fries. There are blops of garlic mayo that are totally unnecessary. Seafood for breakfast is something Yankees don't typically have, but it works here. The eggs are small, but this is a nice small plate if you're in the mood for breakfast. The tataki de atun is seared ahi tuna served with mild wasabi and guacamole. Excellent. By the time the trufado de mozzarella con jamon iberico arrived, we were full. But, still we ate. We had no idea such a tiny sandwich could pack so much flavor. This is a mini truffle, ham, and mozzarella sandwich with a buttery crust. I can see eating this every day and never getting tired of it. But, with everything being so good here, I know I will have to rein myself in a bit. The alcohol was reasonably priced, and the server brought the bottle out to pour your liquor order for you. Here's another great reason to treat your server well, since they have wide discretion with how much they charge, and they eyeball what they pour instead of measuring it. The beer I had was merely okay. Spain doesn't seem to be a great place for beer drinkers. The price was more than fair for what you get: 62 euros for all that, plus a lot more booze than we would have gotten for that price at home. And, consider for a moment how remarkable it is that they've maintained a massive menu while most places have cut back in the last 2 years. The only reason not to try everything on the menu is simply running out of time.

    Nachos w/ guacamole

During a quick stroll around Plaza Mayor, my girlfriend and I decided to stop in at Tapa Tapa for a quick bite. We had been very much enjoying the food in Madrid until this establishment. The look of the restaurant was very nice, and the menu was diverse. But the food was not satisfying in the least. We ordered the tuna with avocado which others have posted pictures of. The tuna didn't look like the white and pink sushi quality fish of the images and was dry, greyish in colour, and flavourless. The "avocado" was a paste that tasted like it came from a tube of mass-produced cheap guacamole knock-off. On a lark, we also decided to order the nachos for a little taste of home. As my picture shows, the portion was not much bigger than our forks, and the ingredients themselves tasted more like the kind of nachos you'd get at a movie theatre than at a restaurant. The cheese was that goopy sauce you get from a bottle or can in the US, the guacamole was also fairly flavourless, the chips were very low quality, and the price was way too high for what you get. Some of the appetizers we had been given for free at some of the local bars in the area were better than this. Honestly, there is way too much good food in Madrid to waste your time and money on a place like this. And this location is maybe a 5-minute walk to Mercado San Miguel where you can get exponentially better food from a variety of vendors at similar prices. The look of this restaurant may scream quality but your taste buds and wallet will scream in horror for what you get.

    Paella

So this place was good if you just want something quick. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the Paella was way overcooked and so was the seafood. The shell of the mussels basically crumbled and cracked into the rice making it inedible. The flavor was ok. I would definitely recommend. It could have been a bad night but this was my experience. Loved the Sangira.

such a great tapas restaurant! we arrived in madrid and they were able to take us as walk ins! we got the croquettes, ham grilled cheese & mussels!! great sharing sizes and super affordable too! my friend and I loved it! the waiters were super friendly too and able to help us pick out the dishes! they spoke english here too which was a big plus for us! definitely check it out - it's a great location that's close to shipping and the sites!

Nice tapas bar in the middle of tourist street. Atmosphere was casual and we were able to get seated right away and there is enough room between tables so it doesn't feel over crowded. Food was really good and I would recommend gambas and steak. So delicious! It really hit the spot for our first night in Madrid

This place looked really fancy, but also down to earth. The location was beautiful and the service was top notch! The hamburger was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. The potatoes and sauce were heavenly as well as the meatballs! The tomato, olive, and feta salad was fresh as if it was pick with perfect attention from their garden. The creme bruleé was prepared perfectly as well. The burnt sugar crust was amazing and the dish was absolutely up my alley. If you can eat here prices are fair and the food is definitely 5 stars!

Ate at the bar. Be aggressive to get served!

Just came in for tapas and wine. Had the pork empanada. Came in a won ton-like pastry filled with pulled pork. The pork was sweet perhaps had BBQ sauce-like sauce in it. The meat was greasy. It did taste good, I have to say, though by no means gourmet. Just had one, fearing tummy trouble later from the grease. You can find better food for the price. Recommend the dry Vaya Pasada RUEDA wine however.

We can here for the tapas, and we were not disappointed! The food here is fantastic, and the atmosphere is great as well. My favorite things were the potatoes (fries) with a fried egg and ham, the tomato bread, the Patatas bravas, and the explosive chicken wings. You can get so much food for a low price. Check this place out!

Atmosphere - 5/5 Great atmosphere, trendy design. Modern and urban looking, with nice soft jazzy music in the background. And the cutest part of the place? These giant plates hanging on the wall that goes with the theme of the name and place. Service - 5/5 We had great service. The server was nice and attentive. Friendly and welcoming, despite language barrier. Food - 4/5 Overall, pretty good. We got the following: Jamon iberico de bellota - great, as with all jamon haha. Thinly sliced Pan com tomate - simple, light and refreshing Kale, quinoa, avena, lentejas y calabacin - good, on the sweeter end Cazuelita de mejillones a la plancha - taste was great but the only issue was that almost half of the mussels were not open (maybe just our batch was a problem) Boquerones caseros en vinagre - this wasn't my cup of tea as it was heavy on the vinegar and on the sour side. But I'm not a native (and first time trying this dish) so hard for me to judge on this one Paella de precarious y marisco - good, not outstanding Arroz con levy different than I expected, but ok Drinks: White Sangria - a safe selection and was good Price - 4/5 Good pricing for what we got. Thanks for the experience!

I truly have to highlight Pepe, Franco, and Grace for taking the time to speak to us and get to know us. The food was FANTASTIC. Everything was fantastic, but the Sangria was spectacular, (probably one of the best sangrias I've ever had). At the end of our meal, Pepe brought us two liquor de Limon shots, which made our whole night!! Definitely recommend this place in the La Latina neighborhood. You won't regret it!

The restaurant is located in the heart of Madrid on a very cute street, and it is easy to find and walk there if you stay in the city center. The place is not very big - both times I went there for lunch, there were no tables available, so I had to sit at the bar; once I even had to wait about 7 minutes until one bar spot became free. The restaurant's design is simple, but pretty and lovely. Overall, the restaurant is in very good condition and was perfectly clean both times I visited. The only small downside is that the place is quite noisy, but it did not bother me. One of the best things about this place is the people who work there - both a guy and a lady at the bar were extremely nice and friendly to me; plus, both spoke very good English. They gave me recommendations on what to try, and I followed their advice. The restaurant's menu is not big, but it has all the most popular traditional Spanish dishes. Both times I ordered Rabo de Toro (a traditional Spanish stew), Fardos (squid rolls with bacon and squid ink mousse); and once I also tried croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes). The croquettes were tasty - I loved their flavor and soft texture. One portion includes 6 pieces, and they are quite big and filling. It was my first time trying Fardos (I ordered a 1/3 portion), and it was a great experience - the dish turned very delicious after the bartender mixed it for me. The squid was cooked very nicely, and combined with the fresh bacon and ink mousse, it tasted fantastic. Rabo de Toro (I ordered a 1/2 portion) was also my first time trying this dish, and I loved it - the stew was perfectly cooked, very soft and moist, with rich flavors, and it melted in my mouth. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of drinks, especially wines. I do not drink alcohol, so I was recommended to try grape juice - Mosto, which was extremely flavorful and tasted like fresh pressed grape juice, even though it came from a glass bottle. I loved that drink! Price-wise, all items on the menu seemed reasonable. I paid €8 for 6 ham croquettes, €12 for a half portion of Rabo de Toro, €8 for a 1/3 portion of Fardos, and €3 for one glass of grape juice. It is possible to have a nice full lunch here for around €22, which is reasonable for a restaurant in the heart of Madrid. The place accepts all major credit cards and Apple Pay, which is a big plus. If you visit this restaurant, I strongly recommend trying 1/3 or 2/3 portion of Fardos, a half portion of Rabo de Toro, and their grape juice Mosto - it's enough food to feel full and experience traditional Spanish flavors.

I ordered the Oxtail (Rabo de Toro) and wooooow... easily one of the most tender and delicate pieces of meat I've EVER had. They serve it boneless, but I'm pretty sure if they would have provided a bone, it would've fallen right off. The whole place gives cozy tavern vibes with a rustic interior that feels perfectly Madrid. NOTE: the portions are a bit heavier than most spots. I hate to waste food, especially when it's as immaculate as the Oxtail, but if you're a party of one, you got to do what you go to do.

The quality of the food has remained consistent for the 10 years I've been visiting! Tucked away just off Sol, Malaespina is the epitome of a classic Madrid taverna. The inviting, unpretentious atmosphere, the cozy charm, the prices, the energy -- it's hard to capture it all in words. There's a certain magic at Malaespina. The tavern has been around for hundreds of years, and I often wonder what it was like a century ago. I'm always amazed that such a gem exists in the heart of Madrid, a city center filled with tourist traps. Malaespina draws both locals and tourists -- and for good reason.
