Incredible little hidden spot with authentic Latin flavors from all over the world. The chef is from Ecuador and the love for his culture shines through in the food and in Tapa Taco's cozy ambiance. Tacos are delicious and nicely sized. The chicken was juicy and flavorful (points for using thighs, not breast), and the veggie taco with sweet potato and kale is a must! Plantains were fried perfectly--crunchy on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside, with a nice spicy guava jam to dip. The rice is OUT OF THIS WORLD and I'm going to need to stop to get some every time I'm in Three Oaks. Tapa Taco is such a gem, I can't wait to come back. read more

Don't let the fact that the restaurant is located within the Gordon Hotel scare you away, it actually adds to Tapa Taco's charm. The Gordon Inn is a quaint little boutique, and Tapa Taco has a very large space within that meets the cozy and comfortable ambience. Their menu is huge, so deciding what to order can be half the battle. We opted for multiple small plates vs large entrees and it was a culinary adventure. The food here was pretty good. I tried the chips and salsa, guacamole, tres leches, rice, beans, and 3 tacos. Steak, chicken, and pork for the tacos. I liked the pork taco the best. The rice could use a little more seasoning and I prefer a plain tres leches to the chocolate one they have here, but overall, it was good and I would return to try some other things. What a hidden gem! So glad Yelp helped us find this place as this was our first time in the area. We got plantains, shrimp arepa, and paella - all of which were incredible. The plantains were perfectly sweet, caramelized and crispy on the outside, but soft in the inside. My arepa was deceivingly more filling than it looked, so glad I stuck to just 1. The paella didn't skimp on the seafood and even the rice itself was spiced well. The spicy margarita is SPICY! So beware. My husband enjoyed his. For those who can't handle heat like me, the lavender lemon margarita was deliciously refreshing. Customer service was excellent. Ashley, our server, was attentive and helpful. Lovely little spot located in the Gordon Beach Inn. It has very classic rustic cabin vibes mixed with Latin American decor and art in the best way. We were the only guests when we got there so we were sat right away. The server was great. They have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. We tried the two vegan arepas and the vegan tacos. We learned about Tapa Taco from the Lakeside Inn; and from their only Yelp review. It was good so we were willing to give them a try. We are glad we did! Allison served us with a smile and great attitude. We sat in the main dining room. They have a bar area and two outside porches available too. Four of us found ourselves at Tapa Taco last night, and by the end of the evening, we all agreed without hesitation: this was the best damned meal we've had in a very long time. The space itself is casual yet welcoming--laid-back enough that Bob's cut-off shirt blended right in, but not out of place for someone arriving in a crisp dress shirt. That balance of easygoing charm and quiet polish extends to the food, which feels both comforting and transportive. The menu wanders across South America and the Caribbean, and every stop was worth making. A saffron-scented paella arrived brimming with flavor, followed by crisp-edged plantains and smoky black beans dusted with island spices. Ceviche, bright and bracing with citrus, reminded us why fresh fish needs little more than lime and a confident hand. There were guacamole and chips--simple, yes, but lifted to near-perfection--and the rustic Brazilian Tropeiro, earthy, hearty, and deeply satisfying. The Rioja Verde washed it all down with just enough brightness to sharpen each bite. Tapa Taco manages the elusive trick of serving food that feels celebratory without being showy. Dining here is less a transaction than an invitation: as if you've been welcomed into someone's kitchen where every dish is prepared with care and confidence. Part of us hesitates to share this review--after all, a place this good is best kept secret, if only to keep the tables easy to come by. This was our first visit to Tapa Taco and we were impressed! The photo I took was taken before all of these tables and more filled up! The menu is diverse and wonderful! Wish I had taken a photo of the food but we were too busy enjoying! The Margarita and sangria we ordered were delicious and the chips, guacamole and salsa were fantastic ! I ordered the shredded beef and shrimp and mango tacos which were SO good! Tacos were $5 each, incredible! The fried plantains were also fabulous! Combo of tacos and South American menu. A tasting menu, appetizers and entrees so you can order however you like. Also Arepas which are South American sliders( a house made flat bun with a variety of fillings). They also have a shrimp ceviche that is made with an absolutely delicious brown sauce and served with plantain chips. So consider it a very upscale and unique taco place. Since you can order individual items the prices are unbelievably affordable. This is a rare find; definitely worth checking out! read more

I'm vegetarian and there were so many options.. we had the bread cheese balls, potato cake, green rice, and some tacos & arepas. Drink menu was also great! We were traveling with dogs and were given multiple options for seating but chose the courtyard and it was the perfect night. This place is tucked away off the Red Arrow Hwy adjacent to a quaint hotel. The space is authentically rustic from days gone by. Our server was positive, knowledgeable about menu items and attentive. I came here for a meal with family while on vacation and enjoyed the experience overall! The pros: quick service, good margaritas, and good variety of options. We were seated right away inside despite not having a reservation and liked the decor. The food did come out at slightly different times, and the carne asada taco could have used some additional flavor. The birria tacos were delicious and a little spicy which was enjoyable, although they did come without the typical consommé on the side for dipping. I called to see if they had an outdoor table because we brought our dog for the weekend. Well it turns out they have tables right off the Inn lobby (restauranta is connected to Gordon Beach Inn) which is dog friendly. It was a win win as we didn't have to be cold on an October night and we could go out with our dog. As for the food, I got the ropa vieja which was just as good as some I've had in Chicago. Their guacamole was also above average. My wife enjoyed her arepas.I was surprised by the margaritas I had too. The service was great and prices were fair. read more

Just got back from dinner at this place and it was fantastic. Don't let the name fool you. It is SO much more than tacos. List of South American dishes as well as Spanish. They even have paella. My husband had the roja vieja and loved it. I had a fish taco and the black bean arejas. Both were fantastic- especially the fish. If you're in town looking for something different try this place. The ambiance here is great. The service is unfriendly (until it was time to pay and the tip was involved). The food was too salty. When the bill came we were charged $4 for pulled pork that was part of the description of the dish! When we called them on it the waitress went to the manager and came back and said he knew it was doing that but didn't know why and took it off. Message? They know their program is ripping people off but do nothing to fix it. Check your bill carefully before you pay! read more
