Good morning, TAP Plastics, On the morning of Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, I contacted TAP Plastics in Santa Rosa regarding the possibility of having plastic remnants cut to create a class set of paint palettes for my students. Upon entering the store that afternoon, Nicole and her staff were incredibly generous, accommodating, and eager to help. After selecting the remnants, the fabricator graciously took the sheets to the back and sliced them to workable palette sizes. When it was time to pay, I braced myself for the sticker shock, expecting the cost to be a few hundred dollars. When the staff member said, "$28," I was stunned. Bewildered, I looked at the heaping pile of meticulously cut plastic squares and said, "This math doesn't make sense; it should be in the hundreds?" They politely informed me that the manager (Nicole) only charged me for the labor and individual sheets. I was so grateful. I had no idea how I could a properly thank them. I offered to buy all of the staff members a coffee, but they respectfully declined. At school, I was about to begin my painting unit with my students, and with this unexpected savings could now afford to spend more money out of pocket on additional painting materials. A big shout out to the staff. I was asked if I needed help and all my questions were answered and they were super helpful! I needed some weld-on to fix a broken fountain pen. They helped me to pick out a correct applicator, decide on Weld-On 3 vs 4 and pick out a funnel as well. Super simple, but the fix went off without a hitch. It was also helpful to check out the TAP Plastics online videos on acrylic welding. The staff also pointed me to to those videos as well. The cost of everything was a little steep for the small repair I needed to do, but that was to be expected. I needed two durable wedge-shaped pieces to level a new A/C unit installed on a sloped platform. The team at Santa Rosa Tap Plastics created exactly what I needed. I brought in two cardboard templates and zero ideas as to how to achieve the desired result. From the young lady who assisted with material choices, to the fabricator who explained how he would create the pieces (awesome job, James!), to the manager who made sure the pricing of the project was accurate, I received the much-needed assistance to achieve exactly what the project required. Included photos show the finished product: Two pieces -- 6" W x 10.5" L -- each with a different thickness, mfg'd from ABS plastic, with each wedge containing (16) - 3/8" thick pieces separately cut using a router and then laminated together. When the work was ready in about four days, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the project was done exactly to specification. Informative if you approach them. The seem to not want to leave the comfort of their desk so you have to go up front and ask them to explain something and lead them back to where you were. The discount bin is nice and can find some pieces to make vinyl dividers for our home collection. They are fairly fast about getting a small speciality cut out for you if you need something but if it's a larger order it could take a couple days for some reason. Have not quite figured out that time line. They also carry a small selection of acrylic safe drill bits, polished, and cements to help in your project. Although it takes a little when working with the polishes as there are steps the end result is worth it. The photo is a display rack we made for a special gift that was given. read more

We took a large movie poster in to be mounted. The sales clerk measured the poster and we decided on mounting hardware. We were told that the poster would be mounted and ready to go when we picked it up. We left the poster with the company and signed a release waiver. The total cost was nearly $500. I returned to pick up the mounted poster and was directed to the shop where they had prepared to dirty dusty pieces of plastic with holes drilled in it that still had plastic shards on them. There was no poster mounted. It was just two plastic sheets. I explained to the manager Nicole that this was unacceptable. We had paid for a finished product. She agreed that the work that had been prepared was not appropriate. She asked for an opportunity to fix the problem and I agreed. She spoke to my wife and said that mounting the poster wouldn't be optimal in the shop, but she would bevel the edges at no additional cost to which we agreed. I picked up the two pieces of plastic and brought them home. I laid the poster out and found that the plastic had been cut 4 inches too short and the artwork was hanging over on either side. I called the shop told them I was done and wanted a full refund which they agreed. I brought the plastic back but forgot to bring the mounting hardware. I asked if I could just do one refund and just bring the hardware back. After this whole debacle, the shop wouldn't give me even the courtesy of doing that so I have to go through two sets of refunds. I wouldn't have bothered leaving a yelp review, but the fact that I have to go back and go through the refund process again sent me over the edge. read more

My backyard deck always got too hot in the summer and non-usable in the winter. The Santa Rosa TAP staff worked out an awesome solution to put polycarbonate cover over the deck. We worked out the support and TAP was able to get the smoked gray 4x12 insulated sheets we needed. Absolutely perfect. We can now enjoy a shaded deck that keeps it much cooler without the direct sun beating on you. The TAP team was awesome in working with me for the perfect solution. My experience with TAP was excellently. Had a little project of placing a mirror on my vacuum tube amp. Found out REAL tinted mirror was expensive and heavy. I was (once again) greeted by the cheerful, knowledgeable staff at TAP who were immediately able to help me find the stock I was looking for, to create the tool I needed to fabricate. All this plus a surprising reasonable price. So cool, a day-changer......Their continued track record with me is excellent. This is unfortunately, in stark comparison to all-too-common local retail experiences of untrained and apathetic employees at other expensive retail stores in my area, where, upon arrival, I pay for lack of inventory and unhappy, untrained employees. I needed sometime to protect a wood desktop from water damage. The folks at tap plastics in Santa Rosa did a fantastic job of walking me through my options and narrowing it down to the right choice. Best of all, the piece fit perfectly when I bought it home. This is notable because I provided measurements down to 1/16" of precision. Attention Attention Attention, Any older rv owners, this IS the place to get all of your cracked or broken toggle or switch covers replace. I changed out my 1 1/2 din stereo to a 2 din model. The dash cover plastic was old and broken, instead of drilling out the space needed, I went to Tap Plastic in Santa Rosa, Ca. With the old one and they made an awesome replacement for me. Now remember, not only does the stereo fit in it, it also houses 2 round holes for usb ports, and 3 rectangular holes for toggle switches. I like TAP Plastics, but NOT this branch! I've placed many orders online with TAP, and their service has been great. On the 2 occasions that I sought to save postage charges by visiting this store, I was very disappointed. On the most recent occasion, I took in some measurements to get some custom-sized acrylic. The lazy/inept employee at the desk couldn't handle the fact that my measurements were in mm, and basically tried to turn down my business! I educated him about how to use a calculator to convert mm to inches, but he still couldn't cope. Eventually, a manager had to be called in, who showed his dozy employee that their computer can make the conversions for them! My advice to the management of this branch would be to try to hire employees who did NOT flunk math at school! read more

Firstly let me say that it is a sad day whenever I leave a negative review for a vendor. That said I would like to warn off any other professionals in the North Bay area from the Santa Rosa Tap Plastics store. This is a long and detailed review of our experience with this store. We are in the processing of rehabbing a vintage 1950s building as the new home for The Haunted Studios™ and needed to replace some 20 glass windows with 1/2 inch smoked acrylic. The Santa Rosa Tap Plastics shop is 55 miles from our construction site, so we attempted to minimize our trips to pick up the plastic. We decided upon an initial test of five windows for a total purchase from Tap of $1,800, plus the cost of our contractor's installation. The first purchase of one window went fine, and when we made this purchased we inquired as to the stock on hand of plastic and we were told it would be no problem. When we returned the next day to purchase three more cut pieces the "trainee" who handled our purchase said no problem, there was stock on hand, and if we returned in a half hour our order would be ready. So we paid the $900 and went off to pick up some other building materials. When we returned we were told that there was "a bit of a problem" with our order; they had NO STOCK. When I asked why he did not check stock prior to taking our order for immediate delivery and charging us in full the fellow just stood there smiling. We asked to speak to the manager and her immediate question was why didn't you call to check stock. I informed her that we had purchased one piece yesterday and were informed that they had plenty of stock on hand to complete our project. The man who processed our order the previous day claimed they "always carried the smoked acrylic in stock." The manager told us they do NOT routinely carry a large stock of the 1/2 inch thick smoked acrylic in stock and could provide no answer as to why her employee had given us false information. Further, we had attempted to call to confirm stock but as the manager admitted their phone system had been down all day. When I asked just why she had asked if I had called to check stock, when she KNEW HER PHONE SYSTEM WAS DOWN, I got no answer just that same old empty smile. In addition to not having our plastic, we would be stuck paying our contractor for a day's work when he did noting, and a wasted 110 mile round trip. The following week we picked up our plastic, but two of the three pieces had scratches from improper handling during the cutting stage. Despite the poor quality we accepted delivery and had the windows installed in our studio. The following week we purchased the final plastic sheet. The sales person who took our order when back to help the cutter. When he brought out the plastic we asked him to measure it, just to be sure. He measured the height but not the width as he had "assisted with that cut and he knew it was right." Now at this point none of our plastic pieces had been incorrectly cut so we took him at his word. BIG MISTAKE. When we got the sheet back to our studio our contractor informed us that it was incorrectly cut, and was one inch too wide. The following day we had to make another 110 mile round trip to hand the sheet re-cut. We informed the manager of what had happened and she seemed surprised, measured the plastic, compared it with their own work order, and found we were right, it was one inch too big. She returned it to the cutter who the previous day had done the job, he appeared irritated and measured the piece several times before he would believe he had cut it incorrectly. When the cutter brought the piece out we asked the manager to measure it, she did, it was correct, and we thanked the cutter. The manager asked the cutter to carry the piece to our truck, but he just grunted and went back into the shop. The manager asked what she could do to make this right. We told her nothing, thank you, we would not be back. You would think that would be the end of the story, but no. When we got the plastic back to our studio we noticed that when they made the correction cut they scratched the panel on the cutting machine. This shop might be good for selling small plastic replacements for glass picture frames, but if you are a professional expecting professional staff and quality products TRY ANOTHER VENDOR! read more

I recently re-painted a dresser that had been in the family for a long time. I had planned on putting polyurethane on the top to protect it, but my mom suggested just getting a piece of plastic to put on top instead. She then asked (she's from out of town) if we had a TAP plastics around. I didn't know, so I looked it up and was happy to see that we did have one! I popped in there on a Thursday afternoon and someone immediately came out to the counter to help. He took my measurements and went over my options (plastic thickness) before bringing the specs to the back room where the cuts would be made. I asked when I should come back and he said "Oh, no- it'll be ready in about a minute." He wasn't kidding! The piece was cut perfectly to size and was ready to take home in literally a minute. It was way cheaper than I expected and both the fabricator (who came out to explain how best to care for the plastic) and the person behind the counter were extremely helpful. read more

Madi, James and the other members of the crew at the TAP Plastics Santa Rosa store were wonderfully helpful as well as quick with a modification to a previously fabricated plexiglass box made to house a custom-made Merlin figure. The artist, from the Bay Area, had delivered the figure and protective box to us, but the box was too tall and we didn't want to drive to the Bay Area to have it modified. After a phone query to TAP Plastics in Santa Rosa, they advised us that they could cut it down but couldn't quote a price without seeing the box. Half an hour later we were there with the box and the figure (so we could consult about the proper height for the box); and half an hour later the new plexiglass box was 31" tall instead of 36." It was perfect! It's such a pleasure to deal with expert folks who love what they do and love helping others succeed with projects like this one. They are terrific! read more

I have been a long time customer at TAP and I have never experienced the utter rudeness I did this week. The Santa Rosa TAP has always been so helpful to me through all of my projects so it deeply saddens me to post this review. Tim is my person of concern. I had what a I thought was a simple idea to cover my artwork with some Plexi. After explaining it to him he told me my idea would not work. I told him I've gotten a very similar project done by TAP many years ago. He got very frustrated and started to raise his voice at me. He told me to go find someone else to help me with my project. Another worker came over to try to defuse the situation but the damage was done and I did not want to give them my money. It scared me because I would never expect to be treated like this at an establishment. I ended up going to the San Rafael location and got exactly what I needed quickly! read more

For what they are, they are perfect. But that is where I am torn. I am opposed, for the majority, to the plastic society that we live in. However, I can't change the invention of plastic, but I can advocate using re-usable long term plastics over "one time use" plastics. This place is full of re-usable plastic products. I bought plastic sauce bottles that I can mix my own personal sauces in for cooking, marinating, dipping, etc. This place has huge variety in products as well.
