    The after photo!

This was definitely a unique experience and as good as it gets. Who hasn't ever wanted to just break something? My boyfriend and I chose a 10 minute session and I reserved online through their website ahead of time. I also printed the waiver forms from online beforehand to save us some time there. There's an abundance of safety gear like safety glasses, face guards, gloves, and coveralls if needed. I believe gloves and safety glasses are mandatory (for good reason). I would recommend dressing in closed toed shoes and jeans as little pieces of ceramic and glass fly around the room. You then get to pick your "weapon" if choice: sledge hammer, golf club, bat, or a paddle. We both brought in a bat and picked up a sledge hammer and golf club as well. The room is set up with a bunch of different breakable things to hit, and I LOVE the Bluetooth speaker option. I read about it beforehand so I had asked my boyfriend to create a small mix of some aggressive/exciting music. Glad we did because it added so much to the experience. it was really fun to be able to just let go and whack away at everything. The first thing we did when our session started was chunk a mug because why not?! Shawn is the wonderful owner and host of our experience. Incredibly accommodating. Thank you Tantrums for the awesome time! I highly recommend it to others and it's a great way to support a local business!

Who needs a gym to relieve stress...
    Rolanda Y.

My boyfriend surprise me with a Groupon for this place after hearing me complain all week about my work life. I had never heard of this place until then. The theme of this place is to take 5,10,15 minutes etc to break as much as you can in a room full of random stuff just because. Spa Days, Yoga, Happy Hour, and Church are all great ways to relieve stress; but I must say there is nothing like Effing Ish Up! I truly left feeling great. Here are 5 reasons why would recommend. 5.You will definitely sweat. So if you find yourself wanting to loose weight but hate the gym or even working out this is a great alternative. 4. Don't worry no one will be able to see your inner psycho. You will have your own private room to destroy. There are no double sided mirrors or windows in any of the rooms. 3. They have Bluetooth speakers for you to connect your phone/ mp3 player to just in case you like your destruction with a side of background music. (I believe this is the one thing off limits to your demise) You can play the music as loud as you want. Really! No one cares. 2. The staff (aka owner) is really laid back and friendly. They have no problem taking pictures for you before, during, and after. 1. You get to pick your weapons of choice (my favorite part of the experience). They have golf clubs, sledge hammers, steel bats, etc. Although it sounds a little dangerous, they do provide safety eye ware and gloves. It is highly suggested to wear closed toes shoes, long sleeves, and pants for extra precaution.

Wish I could of took a before and after but we will be back. Thanks tantrum. O we had the valentine special was 100 for 20 min so with it.

Hard, hard work: 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats, 10k run. Every SINGLE DAY. When I became tired, I relied on the plentiful recreational equipment: table tennis tables, pool tables, basketball courts (indoors and outdoors), racquetball courts, and swimming pools. Inspired by Antonio Banderas, I also enrolled in LPAP dance classes and unleashed my sexy side. But I never stopped working out. NEVER. When my legs got tired, the Rec had hot showers and gym mats for stretching. Water fountains, vending machines, and even kombucha are readily available for recovery. In the summer months, the pools are a great reprieve. And as always, the equipment, towels, and facilities are squeaky clean. If you come to the Rec every day for four years, I guarantee you will see results. You may go bald. You may become a superhero. You might get your Nod bod. And you will certainly feel infinitely healthier than all the people couch potato-ing in their dorms.

I can attest that there are many heavy objects available for lifting in the weight room (but actually, really nice machines/barbells/dumbbells/two squat racks). Note- it's definitely the most busy here before mealtimes, and especially immediately before and after dinner. Try to come in the morning, early afternoon, or during mealtimes if you're like me and don't like people :)

The workers are always friendly, and the gym has a lot of options to be active: basketball courts, tennis courts, swimming pool, cardio area (stationary bikes, row machines, stair masters, treadmills, elliptical, etc), weight machines, free weights, stretching mat as well as rack, and a group fitness studio that doubles as an area for stretching and floor exercises. There's a locker room with showers too. The hours are still okay-- open early on the weekdays at 5:30 AM and 8 AM on Saturdays but not until 10 AM on Sundays. They close at 10 PM on weekdays and 8 PM (the bummer!) on weekends. A few things to note: - open to anyone who works (or trains/studies) in the med center, just bring your badge - the pool is heated (great for winter, but you don't have that ice cold refreshing pool to jump into in the summer!). No lifeguard, but there's a super shallow end and the majority of the lanes are 4' 7" or so deep. - bring your own lock for the lockers (they have free daily use or you can rent for longer term with a fee) - they close for holidays during the year and for a week or so in November and in December the winter holidays This place is still my respite and place to go to blow off some steam or stay fit-- I like how I can swim, run, and do weights conveniently in one visit if I wanted to. Will continue going here to workout!

Its clean, shiny, modern design allows a lot of natural light come through the windows. There are rows and rows of cardio and weight machines, free weights, several benches, maybe 3 squat racks on the first floor. There are also several basketball courts that double-times as pickleball and table tennis areas too. Head to the second floor for an indoor track separated with jogging/walking lanes that tour around more cardio equipment + an area to stretch and do free weights/floor exercises. Fans of group fitness classes will have to pay for semester passes, but they have endless choices of yoga, circuit training, cycling, pilates, bootcamps, and even tai chi classes, plus those specifically for older adults! Members of the community (non-students) can also nab a membership here too, so it's a great choice with an amazing price to stay active! My first visit with my dad today really impressed me and I can't wait to come back for another workout next time I'm in the area :D The 2nd floor is definitely quieter if you like your space (and colder!). They keep it well ventilated with the AC and Big A** Fans (that's a real brand, I'm not joking). Views through the large windows are great with fields in the back (you can spot families of deer wandering around!) or big blue skies in the front if weather permits. Lots of free lockers with locks to store your stuff. The restrooms are clean, and the lockers have several showers too. There's apparently a small sweat towel service! And you can check-out equipment like basketballs at the front desk too. Personal training is also available. There is also a grab and go cafe at the first level and tongs of nooks and places to sit and study. There's no dearth of plugs either. Free public wi-fi. You can find indoor study rooms and outdoor patios with tables on the second level to hang out and work on things. *dreamy sigh* Downsides I can think of: no swimming pool. And they close really early Friday-Sunday at 6 pm~ UH Clear Lake students get free membership, but otherwise community members can start working out for $25 monthly. A parking badge/slip is $5 monthly (giant parking lot). Only 2 guest passes per semester. If you're just in the area, a day pass is just $5-- check it out! ^-^b
