While the Pinot noir sure is tasty, this was the worst wine tasting of my life. The whole experience took us almost an hour to get through five wines meaning someone came and spoke to us every 10 or so minutes. A lot of waiting around. Each table had people but there were 5 people who seemed to be working and no one was waiting at the door. I'm not sure if it was an understaffed situation but they seemed to be sharing just one bottle to avoid opening more bottles. I get you want to use up the bottles you have open to avoid opening a new bottle but it led to a really poor customer experience. The tasting fee was also $15. $5 waived if you bought a bottle. Definitely the most expensive fee I've seen for poor service and not amazing wine. The Pinot noir was deliciously buttery and the views were pretty. Our sommelier or tasting guide was friendly but no apologies or explanations for why it was taking so long. Would never return or recommend.

The Tanalus winery and tasting room in Kelowna overlooks mountains, terraced vines and Lake Okanagan and the tasting room has a view that can almost stop your heart. Gorgeous. We had shorter tasting here of about five wines, and focused on the splashy, light and crisp: riesling, rose, pinot noir. The tasting room staff were polished professionals, giving guidance and sharing information without the heavy hand of a marketing and sales push. Elegant and modern, just like the wine. I got pretty lucky here to get in a quick conversation with some of the winery staff while admiring the simple, whitewashed and modern architecture of the Tantalus facility, and heard the story that Canadian architect Bing Thom originally put in a bid and design specs for the winery project here, a design that turned out to be beautiful but unrealistic for the setting. The ultimate builder? A local with a background in building industrial facilities. The LEED certified winery space reflects that aesthetic in the best ways: simple, beautiful, modern and practical. This is a wonderful modern hillside setting with floor to ceiling windows is a great spot to taste crisp, light wines (particularly the riesling) with welcoming, polished and friendly staff. A good tasting experience in the Okanagan.

    Review Highlights - Tantalus Vineyards

I would say that the Riesling was quite good and well-suited for my tastes - not too sweet, but smooth going down.

THE BLACK AND WHITE: This was our second to last winery before we called it quits for the night. We came in wanting to try some more okanagan pinot noirs and we got them! They gave us a sparkling pet nat to try as we were walking in which was nice. The pinot noirs here in the classic tasting were alright. One was very light and the other was heavy and leathery. For bonus pours, we tried their late harvest riesling which had that petrol taste profile that I weirdly like. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Great staff and service, however the wines were alright. A tasting was $10 for four pours. Very affordable and would recommend to try at least once.

We dropped in on a Friday evening with 6:30pm reservations. There's a heritage room and a couple small tables outside to do tastings. We did ours in the latter. Service was incredibly friendly and sweet. Tasting fee varies ($10.00 to $20.00) based on four flight options but each includes three pours. We opted for the classic ($10.00). It's also worth mentioning that only $5.00 of the fee goes toward a bottle purchase. - 2017 Organic old vines pinot - a blend that was light in flavour. - 2016 Old vines riesling - 2018 Organic pinot noir - smokey and medium tannin. - 2020 Organic ruby pet nat - we were given a bonus sample. This was actually one of their natural wines we were hoping to try. Turned out to be our favourite. A touch fizzy and notes of blueberry. We debated getting a bottle ($30.00). Decent wines at SV but we enjoyed the organic wines more out in West Kelowna.

Parking is weird as you have to park next to the building but there's no dedicated parking spaces. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Driving up, it was weird not having a place to park the car, so we just parked at the side of the building. The dogs are nice and playful around the property. Heading into the winery, we had these cute lil wine glasses and the tastings were 5 pours. There were a few grapes that I didn't recognize like the Siegerrebe, but was actually pretty decent. The pinot noir and bubbly was great. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done for 2 tastings was $20 CAD. Lots of experimentation here and I'm onboard for it.

The Woops wine label is designed upside down, which is really fun, and it tastes great too. Phoenix was full-bodied and tasted really good. I also liked the Gewurztraminer for its well-balanced fruit flavors and sweetness, and the Wolf Song for its buttery taste. We also purchased their original wine glass. This winery is really fun, and I will definitely visit again.
