Living and working in Sydney I eat a lot of Thai food. I can say confidently this is hands down my…read morefavourite Thai place so far. Don't let the dodgy food court surrounds fool you, this place is delicious. Everything I eat here blows me away. The first time I had the Panang curry I was physically sad when I finished it. The homemade chicken noodle soup is my go-to on a cold day and is unlike anything else in the area. For the price you won't find better quality. If you're ever in Chippendale/Glebe on a week day do yourself a favour and check it out.

One of the last hidden gems in Chippendale!…read more We came here after purchasing a Scoopon (link here: https://goo.gl/19o94N) which included any non-seafood lunch dish plus a bottle of water for only $6. This was a steal, so my partner and I each bought one and set off to find this place. While I admit the surrounding food court is a bit dated (chairs from the '80s, closed shops, minimal foot traffic), the food is *amazing* and even without the Scoopon, the prices here are impossible to beat. I'm already planning our next visit, but here's what we had this time around... My partner had the Penang Chicken which was made on the spot. It was wonderfully flavored -- usually restaurants go too heavy on the coconut milk and skimp on the other sauces -- not so here! Great balance to the dish and just the right amount of sauce to thoroughly soak the accompanying rice. I had the BBQ Chicken and Fish Chili lunch special, which are two items from the pre-prepped lunch options. I normally don't get fish from food court stalls, but I'm really glad I made the exception -- the fish was well salted, tangy and spicey and the accompanying french beans (are they called long beans here..?) were crisp and not over-cooked. The BBQ Chicken was on the cool and dry side, but the flavor was also spot on. Unfortunately, we dug in so quickly that I forgot to take photos of our plating. It was nothing special though -- a few dollops of Thai curries on a bed of rice -- but man, I wish I could do it all over again. Definitely worth 5 stars. Great for anyone looking for a good meal at a great price.

Walk up the steps and into a 1970s ranch house, complete with tacky Thai Airlines memorabilia, and some really fabulous examples of 1980s tourism posters. Say what you like about it being tacky, tasteless or overdone, this place sure has character. There's dark wood laminate, lime green, decorative elephants and an awkward looking wooden bar in the middle of the restaurant. And what of the food? By Sydney's competitive Thai-restaurant standards, Pron Prohm is not in the A-List, but we've been quite satisfied with our meals there, especially when we order the specials. Don't expect miracles. It's always quiet, you can always get a table, and sit near the windows, gazing down onto Redfern Street.

Getting past that, though, the food was excellent and came out in good time. Our curries were well-portioned and well-spiced. The desserts were lovely (black rice pudding and banana fritters) and everything was very well priced. If you want some delicious Thai food and don't really care about atmosphere, hit this place up!

If we were here for longer, we'd be going back. I had the Singapore Fried Rice and Hubby had the Massaman Curry with chicken. Both excellent meals. The staff here are lovely - recently my friend and I went back there after a couple of weeks away and I'd dropped her off to get a table whilst I parked the car. Walking in after parking my car in the Broadway shopping centre levels, the host greeted me at the door with a big smile, "You're friend is upstairs!" The tofu panang curry is delicious and 'the hangover' noodles are amazing - not sure if I'd recommend them for hangovers however, unless your plan is to sweat out the toxins with chilli. It's pretty cheap and the upstairs balcony is a great place to spy on the comings and goings of the neighbourhood. There is a homely feeling about At Home Thai. I mean, my home doesn't have that many tables, nor an abundant supply of bean sprouts. But being farewelled by every member of staff (chefs included) as you walk out their doors, it feels like you're farewelling friends, leaving their house after dinner. Only you pay this friend to cook for you and then leave before the washing up is done.

But this place was recommended to me…read moreas one of the very few (think 1 or 2) restaurants in Sydney that serve very traditional Thai street food by someone who certainly does know Thailand pretty frickin' well. It did NOT disappoint! I had a soup here tonight called "Kuy Kub" with the most amaaaaaaazing rich, chocolate brown* pork broth, bits of pork cracking and offal... yep, offal. I'm not really a girl that goes for offal... well hardly ever. But a few years ago I accidentally ate tripe and exclaimed "what kind of seafood is this?"... and ever since then I have decided maybe I can be a little more open-minded about offal since I liked the strange "seafood", lol. The offal in this soup was really good. I tried to just enjoy the flavours without thinking too much about what I was eating, in the interests of having an authentic Thai dish, haha! We also shared a very spicy, lime-intensive seafood salad which was deee-licious! They also serve all the usual suspects you find in western restaurants, pad thai, green curry, etc. But they also have this menu of traditional items that sets them apart, if that is what you're looking for. This place is not trendy. It isn't chi-chi. It's not even shabby chic or "cool" in anyway whatsoever. It's a little run down hole in the wall that serves really delicious authentic Thai street food, so if that is what you're after, this is it, 100%. * it's blood!
