There are TVs to watch the game and you can bring your own food! We really enjoyed the Wits End wheat and Toss My Woodermelon Salad sour (what a great name!). Brie kept entertaining everyone with her dancing and the owner comped us a free beer in appreciation. We are so thankful for the wonderful customer service. We had so much fun playing Trivial Pursuit (there are decks of cards on the tables). There is parking in the back of the brewery and on the street.

But don't let that fool you; this place packs a punch. I've been here several times over the years and just stopped in on a Friday afternoon with my girlfriend. They had 11 beers on tap plus a hard seltzer (and they let you choose flavorings for the seltzer so there's just about something for everyone), plus a slushy machine with a beer slushy and a seltzer slushy. We each tried two flights so we had everything on the menu. Excellent variety and quality in what they offer. And then I left my backpack. I had gone down the shore for the weekend and couldn't come back right away but I called and they said they could hold onto it until Tuesday. My girlfriend and I came back on Tuesday intending to just grab the bag but ended up staying for a few beers and so glad we did! We sat at the bar talking with some of the regulars and the bartenders. They were offering free hotdogs and barbecue chicken from a food truck and it genuinely felt like having dinner and drinks with friends. I've never felt so welcome at a brewery before. Bottom line: this place is an amazing place to hang out. Excellent beer, table games, Phillies on the tv, friendly people... what more do you need?! We will definitely come back!

I could stare at the bar surface for hours. What I noticed is that they are a very modest, down-to-earth place to hang out. Everyone seems very friendly, and the service was excellent. Their beers tend to be light, simple, and drinkable. They also have cans available. I ended up getting a 4-pack of their lager.

We only wanted to try a flight and sit outdoors, which wasn't difficult, but the beers were only average at best overall. While inside to order we overheard 2 different comics and their material wasn't very good. We weren't there for that, but it is what it is. As for the beers they had a couple of good beers, but the rest were only average. While we were seated outside it was very quiet (everyone was inside) one other person came out to enjoy the outdoors and started smoking. At any brewery where we are from in NY smoking is prohibited even in the outdoor seating, so that was disappointing. It wasn't a bad brewery, but our visit wasn't impressive. We've been to many breweries in a ton of places, but I wasn't impressed enough here to come back.

Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.

We were given a brief tour, got an up-close look at their impressive still, and had the chance to ask questions about the distilling process. That personal interaction really added to the experience. We opted for a tasting flight of three spirits. Unfortunately, the one we were most excited to try wasn't available for purchase, even though it was the main reason we made the trip after reading about it. Disappointing, but understandable. We ended up taking home a bottle each of their whiskey and bourbon. At around $45 for the smaller bottles, they felt a bit pricey compared to similar offerings from other craft distilleries. Even so, I'm always happy to support local businesses, especially when they're producing quality spirits. The smoked gin is what first caught our attention, and I'm really looking forward to its release. Since the distillery doesn't open until 5 p.m., a visit requires a little planning--it's not the kind of place you'll casually stumble into while exploring. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and genuinely hope they succeed. The spirits we sampled were well made, the behind-the-scenes tour was a nice bonus, and we'd love to come back on a weekend when the atmosphere is a little more lively. We'll definitely be watching for that email announcing the smoked gin release. Here's hoping it's worth the wait!

We were seated at tables while the different wines we introduced, along with some great history and a little humor. After this program we moved to another room where we could taste a variety of wines, using the little bag of wooden tokens. Next came another tasting red wines, followed by the whites. All in all, a well orchestrated and well planned experience. We will return to pick up our new Futures purchase - but definitely will return before that occasion - during warm weather so we can sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
