The original tonewood location, this brewery is one of the best in the area. Wildly know for Fuego, Tonewood Oaklyn has much more and is the experimental location, with ossington being the larger but (slightly) less variety shop. The atmosphere is classic brewery, chalkboard and wood. The service is quick and efficient, but watch out on nice days, it will get very busy. The beer is always excellent and you will rarely find something that isn't very good read more

I've been to many, many breweries all across South Jersey, and in my humble opinion, Tonewood is one of the best. It's the crown jewel of the South Jersey brewing scene, the creme de la creme with the Midas Touch. Needless to say, I've been to Tonewood countless times over the years, both their tiny, garage-sized space in Oaklyn, as well as their newly opened, behemoth warehouse-sized new space in Barrington. Always something new and interesting on tap, always friendly service, always a five star experience. They are constantly releasing new beers, always pushing themselves to experiment. They don't make a bad beer, but for my money, any of their barrel aged saisons or their double IPA's are the real heroes. They are packed with complex and nuanced flavors that you might be lucky to find in one or two beers at most breweries. At Tonewood, almost everything is a knockout. They distribute to bars, restaurants and liquor stores all over the Philly/South Jersey area, so even if you can't make it to the brewery, you can find it somewhere. Bonus: both locations are dog friendly, so you can bring yours or meet some new ones while there. If you consider yourself a beer enthusiast but haven't been here yet, do yourself a favor and make the pilgrimage. This location on Atlantic Ave. is really nice and big but good luck trying to find parking (may have to go over the tracks to the residential streets). The parking lot at Tonewood is super small. I don't like beer - YES, I don't! Don't come at me! But I went to be with friends and celebrate a birthday. From what I was told, the beer was good. The place was so packed that we had to stand by a wall somewhere until an hour or so later, I saw some people leaving a table and was able to grab it. Atmosphere is nice, bartenders were awesome and super nice too. They don't sell food there but you can bring your own. We ordered pizza and wings from the place across the street. You can even host a private party there. read more

Really loved the vibe of Tonewood in Oaklyn (so much so that we visited the Barrington location a week later). This location is smaller and more chill (though still a good crowd on a Saturday afternoon). There weren't any big games on while we visited, but they had soccer playing on one large screen/wall - I imagine it's a much different when football is on! There's a large parking lot across the street which was super convenient & there were quite a few restaurants next door for food options. I enjoyed trying some of the different saison options and really appreciated the bartender walking me through the different options before making my selection (he was so patient and helpful!) I will absolutely return to this brewery! read more

I think it has gone down a little since the "new" location in Barrington opened (which is much bigger). Good side is that this location seems less busy, but bad is that it can take longer to get a beer. They still have a pretty large selection of draft though for the size of the location. read more

Tonewood Brewery located in Oaklyn nearby Collingswood, is home to a 15-barrel brewhouse that brews some damn fine beers.  I fell in love with their DDH Improv that I found in cans at my local wine and spirits store.  Entering the brewery, there were several large tables, a bar and bar stool type seating against the wall opposite the bar.  We arrived at the brewery late afternoon.  The lines were about 2-3 deep and service was quick. Finding a seat indoors was a challenge. Lots of young families and strollers clogged the indoor area but seating was plentiful in the unshaded outdoor seating area during a 90 degree summer day.  I guess the days of a family outing on a Saturday afternoon at Chucky Cheese are over. I'm glad I didn't have a chance to experience craft breweries when I was a toddler. I'd be an alcoholic by now with the onslaught of so many great brews being brewed by so many great breweries . But I digress, getting back to the brewery.... I had a full pour of Head Space (West Coast IPA) and a full pour of their Fuego (American IPA). I thoroughly enjoyed them and took home cans of Portal. Food can be had by placing an order to  nearby "The Square Meal" (856-942-4325) and having it delivered. Overall, it was a great experience, great crowd, and great beers. I've had this brewery on my list for awhile and was happy to experience it last week. Easy street parking and there's a lot across the street, which is a huge plus. There are a few nice picnic tables outside with fun string lighting. The brewery seems super dog friendly and there was one pooch there that night that I happily petted. Inside is awesome. The bar itself is pretty big. The bar top tables are made of beautiful wood. The music playing was fun, the bathrooms are really nice and finally, the beer is great. I had some of the lighter options, pale ale styles. No food served, but what I did was had some delivered. read more

This chill brewery was my husband's favorite on our holiday brewery tour. I think it's because his beer was free since the guys liked his ugly Christmas sweater. The brewery itself was average in size and of course everyone was friendly. The interior had multiple places to sit, mostly family style, and an outdoor area for warmer times. The brewery gets extra credit for having a water bowl out for dogs. Dog friendly equals awesomeness. The 80s and 90s hip hop/rap music just added to the cool vibe of the brewery. Definitely could have hung out here all night, especially after the Panzarotti from Randazzo's down the street! The husband had the rye, good, but not very "rye." I had the Saison, delicious! Unfortunately, we were one and done to continue our tour, but will return to this awesome brewery in the future. read more

The staff are great, and you can tell they have a vision of where they want to take their brewery, but they have two things working against them: they have little space, and it's not somewhere where you can grab a seat and have a brew, even though surrounding businesses have "al fresco" seating on the sidewalk. Additionally, they have pretty poor hours........closed by 7pm on the weekdays and 5 on the weekends? Really? Finally, I really wasn't impressed by the 4 pack of their red kolsch. It really had no taste and wasn't particularly drinkable. 3 1/2 cans out of 4 ended up going down the kitchen sink drain. I really hope better days are ahead for Tonewood. Tonewood took over a prime corner in Oaklyn just about a month ago. Now down the block from Common Grounds and next to Philly's Phatties (aka pizza), this brewery was just what the borough needed to attract more visitors. I can't say any of their initial beers struck me as incredible, but they were all well-done. There were no duds. I chose a flight of 4 out of 5 available beers for $6 -- opting to pass on the session IPA. You could also select between the regular porter and nitro. I chose nitro and it was probably my favorite of the flight. The amber was also really nice. I'd pass on the pale ale and lager in the future, but I'm sure they'll appeal to many others. They're both classics. A big thing for this brewery is the use of crowlers. I won't tell you how many times my computer just tried to autocorrect that to "crawlers." No, Macbook, I really meant "crowlers." Like growlers. But in super-sized cans. Cool, right? They look really neat and I'd definitely consider buying one for a special event in the future. It'd be easy to spend a full summer afternoon here. The brewery is spacious with plenty of stools and seats. It has a very open and inviting feel. Since I'm only a 7-minute drive away, I'll definitely be back! Can't wait to see what else they conjure up as they grow. read more

Great place to stop in for a drink! Just brews... no food.. but you can bring food in! Small selection of beer.. but it's everything that they brew and it's really good! I really enjoyed their Black Bird which is a dark lager and really smooth. The Revolution is also really good if you like Porters! My husband enjoyed the Brewer's Cut. You can get the drinks at 12oz, 16oz, 6 packs to go and even Growler sizes. All very well priced and also sells their own merchandise such as glasses, hats, shirts and hoodies. We came on a Tuesday so it wasn't crowded at all. Sat at the bar which was full by 4:30 and the crowd just grew from there. They have a parking lot right to the side of the brewery with plenty of street parking. Staff is great and helpful if you need any suggestions. Definitely come stop by and check out this brewery! Oh Tonewood, dear, sweet Tonewood!! What can I say about you other than I enjoy you so much. The beer, the vibe, the energy, the company, the private parking lot next door all make a trip to Tonewood a great time. Everyone knows the drill with microbreweries and the state regulations. No food is sold here, they only have the beer they make there, etc etc blah blah blah. With all that said, the beer is great, and I'm a huge beer snob. If you're hungry, there are several restaurants next door - go buy something and bring it in with you, there are tables for you to sit and eat or drink. The crowed is eclectic, young families, older folks and everyone in between chilling and drinking together. I never get tired of coming here and I've never had a bad beer. This is a great little brewery, if you're into craft beers, come check it out. You won't regret it. read more

Good music but not a single gluten free drink option. Celiacs disease only effects 1.4% of the population. But gluten free diets are even more common. You'd think a bar could provide at least one option. Not even a seltzer. Frustrating to want to hear the music but have no drink options and on top of that the employee bartender was hella rude when I asked. Made me uncomfortable. Don't go here if anyone in your party is gluten free. read more

Tonewood was recommended while I was at a different brewery. They are a little more sophisticated than the average brewery in NJ. They are not huge, but have a very well decorated tasting room with lots of exposed brick and repurposed wood. All ages and income level individuals should be happy going there. I met some other very well educated and fun customers. Their flagship beer is an IPA called Fuego, which I enjoyed. Some other reviews kvetched that they didn't have flights. But I did not see that as a weakness. They gave me 6 oz, pours, but the bartender was very efficient at getting me the next sampling. There is no law that a brewery has to give you flights. The only thing I missed was getting a more personalized tour or being able to at least chat with one of the owners about Tonewood. I really like to hear how they got started and more about their business model. I did see their written tour, however, which was creatively drawn. read more

Juicy and hazy IPA heaven! The taproom is a cool facility with both indoor and outdoor seating perfect for summertime hang. Came here on a Sunday right when it opened (12pm). By 1pm the place was packed. Large beer selection with about 10 Tonewood beers on draft with styles ranging from kolsch, grissette, IPA to Bourbon barrel stouts and porters. They do not do flights but they offer 6oz pours. The Improv Double IPA was my favorite - soo juicy and crushable. I'll be back for more! read more

Is Tonewood the best local Brewery in South Jersey? I don't know, but damned if they aren't near the top of the race. I've drank a few Tonewood brews purchased from local stores throughout SJ, but this is the first time I stopped in. Pros: Great selection of all their beers, with regular canned and bottled beers and the option to crowler/growler a few more. The Fuego IPA is one of my go-tos in the my fridge. I absolutely love it and love that I can bring it outside of South Jersey with ease and bring it to friends to enjoy. The bar scene (in the winter, which I hear is less good) is comfortable, with lots of space and frankly a great set-up to order beers and get things to go (ample room for a line). They have a restaurant next door which is ideal for the NJ brewery scene set-up. You can easily take food in. Cons: Is it really a con if it's super crowded. I stopped by about 1:30 on a Saturday and couldn't find a seat. I was only stopping in for maybe a single draft and to pick up some cans. I really wish they would add a few more seasonal options in cans. I think tonewood is still finding their footing and I'm guessing the new Brewhouse in Barrington will solve that and amp up production. Other notes: Like all NJ breweries, there is no food in-store. I don't see this law going away any time soon, but as I noted above, they have a restaurant next door for easy food. Dog friendly (I'll bring my little guy next time!) Conclusion: I'll continue to drink and supply Tonewood to all my friends and while it's hard for me to drive/to from The brewery (for obvious reasons!), I will be back. read more

I've upgraded my review to four stars based on the beer which is some of the best in South Jersey. However, I won't give them a five because they don't serve 4oz flights which is frustrating when you come 50 minutes away and you can only sample a few of the beers. Luckily I had a sip of the beers my wife tried to get a taste of what I couldn't have. Double Dry Hopped Fuego - Very good, although I still prefer the regular Fuego better. Mullet Cut - Very nice example of a refreshing Pilsner Dreadnought Dunkel - Another great example of a German beer. Really enjoyed this one. Chief on cask with orange peel and vanilla beans - Very good. Nice creamy beer with some excellent flavors. Belgium Dark Strong - One of the best of the bunch. This spot was really cool, a gem in Jersey. Came here after brunch with some friends in downtown Collingswood. The environment at this place is awesome, they nailed it on the decor. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about what they had to offer. This place does not have food but they are buddies with a place down the street who does delivery. The restaurant owner actually brought down food samples for everyone to try. #Ayyyeeee If free samples and good drinks is not enough, this place is also dog friendly. So many cute pups! Another great brewery to open it's doors, Tonewood has utilized Clinton Ave in Oaklyn as a walkable main street style brewery. The beers are tasty and there are plenty of them to go around. On my visit, I had their amber, lager, porter, pale, session IPA, and saison. The brewery is nice and spacious and there is plenty of room at the bar or at a table throughout. They are also dog friendly which is nice to see. I ended up grabing a crowler of their amber to go along with a $2 beer koozie (yep a koozie for a 32 oz beer). Prices didn't seem too bad and the guys working the bar are super chill and will be happy to talk beer with you. Rumor has that the Oaklyn Manor will be reopening with Tonewood on tap along with wings brined in their beer. If that is the case, I will surely be making my way back to town soon enough. read more

My friend booked a private tour/tasting for us, and it was well worth it. All their beer have great flavor, and are true to their names. They rotate their beers regularly. IPAs seem to be their sweet spot. My favorites are: Terminal Double IPA Fuego IPA I got a flight of all seven beers. Tasting area and bathrooms are clean! Tonewood maintains that NJ blue collar feel in a cool industrial space while still producing great beer product. In the smallest bit of commercial space possible in Oaklyn you'll find Tonewood Brewing, a modest brewery producing some really good beers. The space is really small and is very much that NJ-industrial space vibe, with a few tables and bar among the towering stainless steel brewing tanks. Although there is parking along the street, there's also a public lot a half block away at the corner of Woodland Terrace and Clinton Avenue. The beers here are solid - I really enjoyed the SIPA, an American Session IPA (4.8% ABV), a dry-hopped with floral hops, it's an IPA for people who aren't over-the-moon with IPAs, and the Saison (5.8% ABV), crisp and dry with lots of rye and wheat, that makes a delicious summer beer but would hold-up in colder weather too. Overall, Tonewood is a solid microbrewery and definitely worth driving out of the way to visit. read more
