I have been to a few nail salons in the area and haven't been very happy. The establishments don't appear clean and the people working at them sometimes don't appear clean (ie cleaning their ear out with their finger repeatedly 4 inches from me and then touching my hands with the finger that was just in their ear). When I walked into Tang's it was an immediate breath of fresh hair, the place looked very clean and inviting. For starters they only take appointments. I was lucky to call and ask if it was by appointment only and they said yes but they had an opening if I could come in now, so I did. I am very basic and just like my nails cleaned up and clear polish applied, so also what I loved was it didn't have that chemically smell from all the fake nail applications. The nail tech did a great job and the price was comparable to the other not as nice nail salons in the area. While sitting there I heard almost every person booking their next appointment before leaving. So, if you want to try tang's make sure to call for an appointment. read more

I come to get spa services when I am stressed but I left here more stressed than when I walked in. Why do nail ladies talk about politics while working on their clients I will never know. Very disappointed with the lack of professionalism of Tang, the owner. I have been coming here for a few years, but unfortunately will not return after the way she treated my staff. We booked services for Nurse's Week, to have our staff get their nails done. While we did change the services a few times, Tang got upset, and I did call to apologize, Brittany answered. My staff came in for their nails and she treated them poorly, stating how we messed up their day, etc. This was supposed to be a nice relaxing day for the nurses that work hard treating patients, and it turned into a day of added stress. DO NOT GO HERE, she is rude! UPDATE: After seeing this review, Tang called an did NOT apologize! she then left this threatening voicemail: "Natalie, I'm gonna go into your website and put in your website page. How see how real you guys are to us I'm gonna go in there and tell how rude you guys was So yeah, how do you feel that way if I ruined you guy business Yeah, your guy are wrong. Not us. I visited Tang's salon last weekend. I appreciated that she was able to get me in last minute and that she was open on a Sunday! Welcoming environment, water provided... Unfortunately, things didn't feel so welcoming once my service started. She did my nails fast, didn't ask what I thought about my nails... At one point she was speaking to a customer on the phone, she hung up, and called back claiming it was bad service. I hate dishonesty. You're a business owner, act like one. I'm so happy I was recommended this salon. They only work with natural nails so it doesn't smell strong like most salons. The pedicure chairs are GREAT! They use a stand to assist your leg during the callous removal, which is a huge plus for me. The polish always last until the next visit. Tang keeps the salon very clean and simple, and look forward to how friendly everyone is. I've read the negative comments and feel people need to understand we are still post-pandemic and they are short-handed like almost every business. But they show up and do great work. I've now been to this nail salon twice. And two things I think I can confirm after being here both in great weather and in terrible weather. 1) They do a stellar job. The salon is pristine, clean and inviting. 2) Their overall customer service (Stemming from the owner's and one other nail technician's comments made about their other clientele if they're running late - openly in front of other customers), lack of professionalism and decorum, could be improved upon. Where I think this owner and her staff could really make some small refinements to their professionalism, is to understand what should be shared in front of customers and what should not be shared in front of customers. I witnessed the owner and one of the nail technicians talk at length about a few customers who repeatedly called in and lamented about them being late not willing to take them and other catty comments. Whether they were right and justified makes no difference it's poor to do that in front of customers. Considering they have a good product, a clean nail salon, great color choices and their technicians seem to do great jobs bodes very well for this business. If they could just make these refinements and learn how to keep a professional decorum I'm sure this will be one of the best (and cleanest) nail salons in all of Northwest Indiana, an area that is sorely lacking for clean nail salons. read more

I had an uncomfortable experience here. I am a nurse and my job provided a wonderful, relaxful pedi as a courtsey for nurses week or so i thought. When i arrived, i was told my office did not schedule me correctly and it was a warning for next time. I apologize for the confusion. They still took me in. I believe i had brittany. She was very nice and accommodated my daughter, 6 yrs old to sit next to me. I appreciated her patience with bringing my daughter. Brittany did do a nice job on my toes. However, Tang was unpleasant and unprofessional. She complained to us (3 nurses) that we were scheduled incorrectly and we ruined her day or push back her time. The way she spoke was rude and def did not help the relaxing experience. Prior to leaving, she received a bad review from the office i work at. Instead of replying back to the review, she confronted us (who had no idea) and bash our boss and insisted it was their fault. I never felt so uncomfortable at a business. On top of that, she continue to complain to the other customers that were there. She stated bad reviews is bad for her business. Honestly, its her attitude and unprofessional manner that is keeping people away not the reviews. I appreciate brittany because she was sweet and good at her job but we will not return. On google her response to me: Tang's Nail & Spa (Owner) 32 minutes ago First of all you were late and we're by appointment and you supposed to get only a regular Manny we only give our south half an hour then you decide to get a pedicure that take us longer so make us behind and really it's too side of a story that's why I respond to you you must be unhappy person. I'm perfectly happy since I still got a pedi ;) I wasn't late... if you check the time when I came in instead of complaining you will see I was 3 min earlier. Please act like a grown, classy lady. I love Tangs! I have been going here for 18 months or so and I won't go to anywhere else! I typically see Tang. She is very thorough, my nails last, and she is the best in the area. I have been to Jay Marie, Vanis and Beauty and the Beach and there are less frills but the quality is better. Tangs is by appointment only. They are booked so I book my next appointment before I leave. You cannot be late or no show, or you will get charged. Tang is in high demand! They are also natural nails. I have seen people walk in and get really upset but they are booked solid so just can't accommodate walk-ins. I highly recommend. read more

With everything going on with COVID-19, it's tough to trust some places. This salon was so clean! They have you sit every other pedi chair. They thoroughly clean every chair after you get up. They have the nicest nail techs and did an amazing job. I've also never seen a salon give you a little basket to pick your Semtex Bach bomb, pedi kit and color shoes! It was such a cool experience. Maria, my nail tech, provided good service. My nails look very nice! My one star review is based on the interaction I had with Tang, the owner. Tang approached me as Maria was applying my polish and accused me of not requesting no-chip polish when I scheduled my appointment. As a result of not requesting no-chip when I called to schedule the appt, I was being denied the paraffin wax service that I requested. I was initially confused and advised her that I had, in fact, requested no-chip. She asked me to prove that I requested no-chip when I scheduled the appointment and demanded to know who wrote my appointment on their schedule. Of course, I had no idea who wrote my appt into their books! Even though I kept my cool, her approach was incredibly negative and left me with the feeling that I had done something wrong. She accused me as if I were attempting to run a scam. It blew me away! Experience ruined!! A few moments later, Tang hollered from across the room and gave Maria permission to apply the paraffin wax because she had reassigned Maria's next client to a different nail technician. It all seemed so punitive! I tipped Maria partially for her work and partially because I felt sorry for her having to work under someone so disrespectful and punitive. A very simple miscommunication on their part, shouldn't turn into such a bad experience for the customer. Maria apologized several times but she wasn't the problem. Tang offered no apology. At this point, I'm certain that the only thing I did wrong was having my nails done at Tang's. Needless to say, I won't be back! read more

Very very clean. The nail technician had me pick out my own bath bomb fragrance, toe separators, files, & other cute nail equipment & I got my own basket for my pedicure. Mariah did an amazing pedicure. I have ingrown toenails. She took her time & made my feet sandal ready. Prices are average compared to other salons. I've been here twice, mostly out of desperation. My first experience was so strange. I made the appointment over the phone, where I spelled out my own name correctly. When I showed up early for my appointment I was almost denied. I had a very aggressive conversation with one of the employees who said my time slot was for someone else. When I asked who the appointment was for she said it was written as Linda, then crossed out and rewritten as Brianna. Neither is my name. The only way I got to keep my appointment was my phone number. The entire appointment was almost 2 hours for a no chip on natural nails. The first technician I had started to remove my old nail polish. I sat there for over 30 minutes by the time my technician was ready for me. Then she spent another 40 minutes removing my old nail polish because the first technician did such a bad job. By the time she got to my manicure, her next client was there. So I was rushed and it clearly showed. She forgot the last layer of nail polish, so I had these weird circles all over my nails. I also didn't get a hand massage or maybe they don't offer it here. I'm not sure why, but I decided to give this place a second chance. I had the same technician again and based on my second experience I just think she is not that talented. This time my appointment was exactly 60 minutes. So that was an improvement. Did I get a hand massage, no. Did I get yelled at when I requested no weird circles on my nails from lack of polish, hard yes! Did I still walk out with weird circles on my nails, again hard yes. Do I think this is a $40 service, no. I also noticed a very happy employee the first time I went. When I went back a second time, she was clearly upset and I'm very sure it had to do with Miss Tang herself. You could tell something bad happened between these two. I'm personally very pro employee. Fabulous salon to get nails done! High standards set forth by owner and entire staff are held to it. They care about being trained & holding a valid license. They care about your nail health and do not use a drill to remove the no chip too coat (even though it may save time.). The salon is very clean and does not smell like a traditional nail salon. (They only do acrylic nails on Sunday). They do offer some organic nail polish colors!!! HIGHLY recommend calling ahead for an appointment. (That in and of itself is a testament to how good this salon is) You get to pick scents, scrubs, and tools for your pedicure. That way you know it is sanitary! Alright y'all lemme start this by saying I cheated on my go to nail salon to come here because I'm visiting my sister here in NW Indiana. I got a full set of acrylics and my sister got a no chip manicure. I wanna say the service I received from Kim was amazing, she really knows a woman's nails, she gave me the shape I wanted and my nails look so good that I'm gonna start talking with my hands. Just a huge shout-out to her. There was a bit of a wait, about 30 minutes but my nails look so good, girl, I have amnesia about it, doesn't even matter. The reason I'm giving four stars is because of my sister's experience. The woman who did her nails was stopping to text and answer her personal phone. Listen, we're understanding people if you have an emergency, you need to be by your phone, that is totally fine but just let a woman know! Oh my goodness! I had the very best experience today at Tang's Nail & Spa! I had an 11:00 appointment. I was called to come in 15 minutes earlier and I was able. I had a pedicure and no chip manicure. Tang the owner did my toes and nails. I haven't had such a good result since my friend stop doing nails during the early days of the pandemic. Questioned who I spoke to and exactly what day. No apologies. When I asked if I could still get the pedicure even though they didn't write my appointment down I was just told very rudely not today. I first sent my husband to the shop a few weeks ago for a pedicure. Before he left he was already texting me that he loved the shop. He usually only gets pedicures before a vacation and was so impressed he stated he wouldn't mind going once a month now. Unfortunately I tried to really like Tangs due to the convenience of the location and the cost is cheaper than my regular salon. I went there for several months and I noticed that my gel manicures were not lasting more than a few days -and my nails were breaking more frequently than before I put gel on them. Tang consistently told me that I must be doing something wrong that I must be doing something different. Well when I finally went back to my original salon that was a little further away and a little more expensive I found out why. Tang is skipping a step in the prep of the gel nail application. There is a very small bottle of a moisturizing agent that helps strengthen the nails and help the gel adhere. The nail technician told me they see this frequently in cheaper salons - the product is expensive. Needless to say my gel lasts 2 weeks now - no chipping. So not something that I am doing. Also Tangs has zero cell phone reception and their own phones do not work well so you cannot contact them half of the time if you need to via phone because they will lose the connection yet Tang will state she has a 24 hour cancellation policy, if callers cannot get through to cancel how can you have a policy? Very unprofessional . Do not waste $ on gel here. read more
