I've hated haircuts since I was a kid - mainly cuz my experience has been: walking down the street, a barber seeing my hair and being like "hey man, let me cut you. You want the girlies to like you right?". I go in for the cut and always get the back of my neck f'd up, my haircut all janky and gotta leave a tip for someone that did a poor job. Always gotta go home and put some water and gel to curl it back up. I finally found a reason not to hate haircuts anymore, and that's due to Rashad, the barber here. Jesus.....I mean Rashad (licensed cosmo and barber)saved me again. I used a product called DevaCurl and I was using the whole line and my hair started falling out with their curl stretch formula. I dropped in after work, ran into an old friend in the sitting area. The wait was long, and I didn't mind, the vibe was chill. When it was my time in the chair Rashad asked what I wanted done, listened and got to work. He shaped my hair and now my coils are poppin' like it's springtime! I hate leaving bad reviews, but I feel like today's experience warrants one. I took my son in today and showed Marc the cut that he wanted on my phone. Marc seemed like it was no problem. One and a half hours later, my son has an uneven haircut that looks nothing like the picture I showed him. His hair is uneven in many places and I don't even know what the hell kind of fade Marc thought he was doing. I said to take nothing off the top and cut took it down by over 50%. Honestly, I don't know why he's cutting hair there. I could tell everyone else could see the disaster unfolding and the one barber with the long braids came over at one point and redirected Marc. I'd give this place less stars, but I can tell that the other barbers do much better work and I don't want to punish them as well. In short, avoid Marc. read more

It's not the fact that I had to wait eons for my beard to get shaped up, i'm not upset. It's not because we got into a heated Religious debate, I actually enjoy a good discussion. I'm agitated because after all this drama to get my face lined up, homeboy cut me wrong! I told him verbatim to take my beard down, don't touch my goatee. He said "You want a shadow no touch goatee." I repeated myself this time saying "Yes, give me the shadow but DON'T TOUCH my goatee". He said the same thing that I just told you know so I thought I was in the clear. The first thing he does is take down my chops, then the beard, then ZZzzz! There goes the goat! I look at him he looks at me AND THEN he walks outside! And he's gone for about ten minutes. He comes back in finishes the job, doesn't explain why he left, doesn't apologize for leaving mid cut, slaps my hand goodbye. I don't mean to sound flippant but he played me dirt. read more

5 Stars not enough for this shop !!!!! I went to visit Tangles & Locks for the first time on 6/1/11 me and my wife went looking for a shop for me to get my hair cut. The minute we walked in we felt welcome. These guys are funny as hell, forget the movie barbershop this is the real deal they need their own T.V.show. A friend told me to see D.L. He was very attentive to what I wanted, the only problem was he cut my hair better then I ever got before. My wife jumped up and said "THIS IS YOUR NEW BARBER !!! and can I be next" Needless to say my wife's hair was shoulder length D.L cut it down to a short natural soft look not hard like a man and she loved it. People stop her on the streets complimenting her on hair. And you need to know the prices are right for a cut and live entertainment that these barbers give. read more

Ladies! If you've been debating shaving your sides, book Rashad. After months of debating myself I finally decided to get shaved sides. I was surprised to find how difficult it was to find a barber to comfortably and confidently shave ya girls head. I came to Tangles & Locks because a previous review said this shop is happy to do close cuts on a lady. What an understatement! When I entered Rashad was doing shaved sides and intricate detail on another lady. Gorgeous! I was immediately comforted by watching him confidently handle the long and short of her hair. My walk-in wait was short, but I think I may have gotten lucky, because Rashad is so amazing. If there was a long wait I'd sit there. Not only is this barbershop incredibly clean, affordable, and near me (I'm in Glendale and it's in Altadena/Pasadena) but the men in there are class acts. I was offered water, there were plenty of cozy seats, and just great conversation all around. Oh! And my haircut was incredible. After two years of searching, I finally found my barbershop. DO NOT GO TO MARCUS! The shop was listed to be open at 10:30. I called to make an appointment and no one answered the phone. I decided to drive there and at 11:45 and I saw Marcus drive up and open the shop. I went in and asked for a faux hawk. I showed him a few pictures for reference. He had no idea what he was doing. His hand was very unsteady and he clipped my ear. He asked if he had and didn't believe me til he saw blood. He offered a free cut. Then Chris came in, who definitely has way more experience doing hair. He told Marcus that what he was doing was not a faux hawk and tried to clean up Marcus's mess. Unfortunately, a client came in and Chris had to tend to him. The whole process took an unnecessary 3 HOURS and I felt bad for Marcus so I gave him 40 bucks for the disaster. I'm not sure why he even works there. I'm not at all satisfied with the cut and I was late picking my son up from school. Definitely not professional. He needs a refresher and I'm not even sure how he could possibly have a barber license. I'm definitely going elsewhere. As a woman, its been a struggle to find a barber to give me a decent cut. I've been rocking a close bald fade for a while now and I owe all the credit to Josh. The boy is good. Hands down the best barber on the PLANET. Yes. I went there. I showed up on a Friday around 5pm apparently when the shop was at his busiest. (I should've known better"). Josh immediately greeted me and asked me if I had an appointment with someone. Of course I didn't, so he volunteered to cut me after he finished the guy in his chair (he was finishing off a SICK mohawk). When it was my turn Josh immediately took me to the shampoo bowl. I told him my hair was already clean but he said it was a part of his process....at no extra charge! How awesome is that? And he used quality product! When we got back to the chair, he asked what I wanted. I'm not too keen on the barbering terminology yet so I told him I wanted it low and faded out in the back. Can I tell you guys that this man went to work?! It was like he was reading my mind! I absolutely LOVED my cut and will be bringing my husband and 2 sons back this weekend! I had an appointment in burbank and I needed to get a trim before. I used yelp to find this place and I'm glad I did. The fellas there are very inviting. You walk in and instantly ,its like your family. I was there for 2hrs ( which isn't bad for a barbershop on a Saturday). There was constant laughter and stories being told. The whole shop took part in the conversation. If I'm in the area and need a trim I'm going there. I saw about 5 peoples hair before my turn and I didn't see one bad haircut. All haircuts are 25 .
