I was walking in the area in a need of a cleanup and saw this Barber Shop. The shop was empty and the barber was shaving himself which I found it ok as it was empty. He immediately asked what do I need and I responded a cleanup. Meaning no hair cutting, I just needed to get my sideburns shortened up and my front lined up. He didn't do any of it. He left my sideburns just the way they were and when I pointed out that he is not following directions he went all in and cut a big chunk of hair leaving me with a hole on my sides. He was grumpy and unprofessional and expensive for the 5-minute lousy job. Apparently, he has been cutting hair all his life and I guess its time to retire and rent the seats to younger barbers. Went in for a simple very short sides, short-med on top. Got an equal length all sides cut (1.5-2 inch) and was told I was "crazy" for wanting the sides cut shorter. He barely trimmed the sides down and not evenly. I have curly hair. I know how I want it cut. To top it off, the sign says $16. He charged me $25 saying it was not a regular cut. Really? 50%+ mark up for anything beyond a lazy, equal length everywhere cut? I will never patronize this place again. read more

I've been going here to get my hair cut for several years. I've tried a lot of barbers in the Pasadena area and the average quality is pretty bad. Juan is definitely the best I've found, and conveniently this shop is quite close to our house. The extent of my request is "medium-short" and the result is consistently good. He charges $12, which seems to be pretty typical for the area. The shop looks like a typical barber shop, although the waiting couch is rather more comfortable than most barber shop waiting chairs. (There's a chair too for overflow.) The usual selection of manly magazines to flip through while you're waiting, and usually some Spanish-language TV on the tube. You can park in back and come in through the back door, that's a bit easier than parking on Lake. read more

Barber in here does a great job. I've been going here for a while now. I really like it because every time I pull up an go in he's sitting in his chair waiting as if he's open just for me. 15min and I'm back in my car ready to continue my day. He charges $16 so I toss him a $20 and say keep the change and see at next time. Wish he added a wash. That would be nice. read more

Guy is frail and cannot do a nice line up. I asked to leave the top alone, but he felt he had to cut a quarter inch here and there.... What the f&$?? I said leave the top alone! Then, within 10 minutes he's done. I look at the mirror, man says I'm balding in the back... I say bullshit in my head... Then I ask for a line on the mustache..... Then the horror... He managed not to TREMBLE too hard, and feared for life he might cut off my stache .... He didn't... I saw the worry in his face.... Like an old NBA vet feeling his time is wound up... But when I bought a mirror, and Iphine video'd my hair.......... I saw patches.. Total fuxkin bad job. This guy needs to hire talent and retire. read more

I am new in town and went to this barber shop to give a try based on the good reviews on yelp. The barber is an old, polite gentleman. I think, he is an OK guy in terms of skills, but we had little bit communication issue to explain the haircut I want. He cut some of my hair based on how much he understood of what I said and spent ~20 minutes for trimming sides, etc. The haircut was not like I expect, but I didn't bother to stay there longer. I ended up coming home and trimming my hair by myself. He asked for $16 which is a reasonable price, and I tipped $3 extra. What I didn't like about this place are 1) It is a cash only place, no credit card. 2) He didn't give me any receipt, didn't offer to give! So, it is highly unlikely for me to do business with this place again. I will try another one on Lake Av. next time. read more

Great for boys cut! I'd been cutting my son's hair when needed which, while convenient, didn't look too good. Just wanted something simple for him to neaten everything up. Walked in after school and Juan came right out to help us. He is a man of few words to be sure, but "not too short" on the boys cut was understood. I thought it was very considerate of him to switch the television station to a cartoon network for my son. He smiled at that. In 10 minutes, we were done and he had a nice neat cut. Overall a very nice experience. Juan's shop is like stepping back in time. We'll definitely be back. read more

Yes, Juan, the owner speaks literally no English and is not great for pretty boy haircuts. He does a great job though, in a great location and really quick. I'll come in sometimes with 3 guys waiting and I'll just grab the LA Times he has sitting there free and be out of there within 30 minutes. Great deli next door (Park Bench) great liquor store next door (Websters), great bar across the street (Rancho), great restaurant across the street (El Patron) and a Ralphs next door. After I get a haircut I always seem to walk to one of these 5 places. A cut is now $16 and I always give Juan a $20. He is very polite and knows his craft. He has this really cool smelly shit he rubs on your neck after he's done. Smells great and has a good burn to it. On a side note, Juan became a US Citizen a year or two back and was so proud of this and showed everyone his citizenship papers along with pictures of him taking the oath and Pledge of Allegiance. When I think of the behavior and lack of appreciation by the Occupy crowd, it is a real delight to see a hard working, good man, become an American through the legal route. You gotta try this place! read more
