I ordered the sweet chili chicken and it came out dry as I was expecting it to be cooked in a spicy, sweet and savory sauce when in actuality it was dry and salty with a hint of chili flakes. My friend ordered the pork fried rice and it did not look fried and he said it was mediocre, at best. At last, I felt it was expensive for what you get and the service was not very good. Not a first good impression!

Mains are extravagant, they are always served hot and the food is always fresh. My personal favourite is the satay chicken, which is simply flavoursome and what you want out of a classic satay chicken dish. The service is quick. The staff are exceptional- they show both professionalism and plenty of individual character, they are not shy to go out of their way to get a laugh out of you! Finally the price is reasonable, you get what you pay for.

Then I realised I had in a place in Minto and was excited I don't have to travel all the way to the city. Many an evening for me begins with wandering across the city to eat at Hong Kong King…read more You'll find Hong Kong King nestled away from the tourist trap of street level Chinatown, in Eating World food court. Think of the street level restaurants as a trap to catch tourists who just want the same Chinese on offer in their local suburb, and these food courts as the real reason you want to eat in Chinatown! So, what's on offer at Hong Kong King? Authentic dishes at ridiculously cheap prices, and maybe a bit of a wait if you're there in rush hour. Contrary to another review calling this "country fare chinese", the dishes are quite authentic. Their whole Szechuan fish is amazing and they sell dozens of them every hour. I mean, if you want to order "honey chicken", they're not going to say no to the money, but they sell much more in the way of authentic fare. Just be careful about wait times. Come dinner time you'll find a string of regulars who are aware of the 15-25 minute wait and have no problems, so just check in and ask what the wait is. The same family have run this restaurant for the almost decade I've been eating here. They're lovely and will get to know you over time.

It's such a disappointment that I didn't get to try it. I got to try some of the other amazing food they offer though. I ordered some of the noodle soups and the xiao long bao, and they tasted far better than any Chinese food I've had in California. (besides maybe in the San Gabriel Valley) The xiao long bao was super juicy and not dry at all. The meat inside and the outside dumpling part of it were put together perfectly and I loved every bit of it. The soups were incredibly flavorful that I could've had many more bowls of it. Overall, the staff was very helpful and all of the delicious food didn't take too long to be made and served to us. I definitely need to come back to try the iconic Peking Duck!

Everyone's had Chinese food before, but it's once you focus on regional cuisines that you start appreciating the discrepancies within this massive culinary realm. The most famous Chinese restaurant in Sydney happens to be purely Szechuan. Luckily for me, Glebe is home to Spicy Szechuan, where I've had some of the best Chinese food yet. They surely don't skimp on quality at this place; most of the plates are large and are so packed with flavor that you instantly forget that Chinese takeout exists. Don't come here if you're vegetarian--the best dishes have succulent pork, moist chicken, and tender beef. The crispy deep-fried chicken with chilies is to die for. A half-chicken is fried to crunchy perfection and smothered in a bright red chili oil sauce. It's hard to explain, but the dried chili is just as vital to taste as it is for the heat level of the dish. But if I could recommend one thing, it would have to be the fish flavored eggplant (yu xiang qie zi). The name is a misnomer as there's no fish, but only meaty eggplant slices, ground pork, and a thick spicy sauce that is unparalleled in flavor. It might be the best version of this dish I've had. Oh, and sometimes there are tour buses parked in the front. It's that good.

We ordered the spicy boiled fish, dan dan noodles, and scallion pancakes. All were very good! I'm knocking off 2 stars because of our overall experience. I consider myself an understanding customer. I kept an open mind and came here for the food, not the service. However, the treatment we received was beyond terrible. They make their customers order on tablets, which is totally fine. The problem was that the UI is completely in Chinese. Sure, there are photos of the food items, but all the buttons were in Chinese. I couldn't find an option to switch to English either. I'm not Chinese and cannot read Chinese, so I was very flustered. When I asked a waitress for help, she looked at me like I was a complete moron. She had the face like "duh, this is the button to add an item". So rude. This interaction definitely dampened by overall experience of the place. Conclusion: The food here is great, but you may experience a hard time if you are not a Mandarin speaker.
