Great spot for Indian food without costing an arm and a leg. It's located right next to the Satellite City Hall in Ala Moana. The space is on the smaller side, so it can be crowded at peak hours. Went with a party of 3 for early dinner and shared: -Chicken tikka masala -Lamb rogan josh -Chicken tikka -2 garlic naan The curry sauces were on point. The tikka masala was a touch tomato forward but still delicious. The lamb was also very good. Naan is made fresh and served piping hot. Minor quibble - the chicken in the dish was regular chicken and not chicken tikka. Not a big deal because the sauce is the boss, but some people may care. The chicken tikka was ok as it was slightly on the bland side. Service was quick. Just note that when you're ready to pay, you go up to the register. read more

We went back!!! lol! I was craving their food so we went back 1 week later and ordered something different. We already knew to order 2 of the rotti and 2 naan because it's so fresh and addictive so I wanted to make sure I had leftovers to bring home. This time we ordered the Chicken Biryani and it was sooooo good! The chicken was tender and the rice was flavorful and tender. FYI.. we ordered the "mild/medium" spicy level and it was too spicy for me and my son. The owners checked on us and when we told them our faces were red from the spice, they offered to make us another batch. I decided to also keep the spicy biryanis and still pay for it because I knew my husband and older son would love it. The second batch was amazeballs and we could taste the delicious without the heat. We also ordered the Chana Chat which was a delicious vegetarian dish with chunky potatoes, carrots and cauliflower. The amount was perfect for 2 people and we took 1/2 of our meal home only to be devoured later. FYI. They offer these dishes bento/lunch plate take out style. My grandfather and I rolled in on a Friday evening around 7pm to the location that used to be Himalayan kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised to immediately sit in the cozy interior of Tandoori express, and enjoy a delicious meal. We ordered their lamb curry, Chana masala and roti, with the option to order mild, medium or hot spicy levels. We were told medium is actually spicy, and went with that--and it sure was! The portions were a good size, and Both entrees came with rice, leaving us with a takeout container full of lunch for tomorrow. This Indian place opened where Himalayan Kitchen used to be on the Macys end of the mall but one level below. There are only 4-5 tables to eat there, lot of takeout or door dash(?) orders while we were there. Food was good, I like it better than Himalayan Kitchen. read more

This place is located next to Assagios in Ala Moana! When coming down the escalator, I was met with the smell of Indian curries and I was so ready to eat! The space is small with around 5 tables for dine in seating but many people were taking food to go as well. Service was a little slow, but the place was full. It also was on the warmer side in there, so keep that in mind if you don't like heat. Now my husband and I shared a lunch 3 curry plate with spinach paneer, butter chicken, and lamb Rogan Josh. We also got a side garlic naan. Absolutely blown away with the flavors. My favorite had to be the butter chicken. The chicken was flavorful and grilled which is unlike many other places. The Rogan Josh was so tasty as well, but lamb isn't my favorite protein. The spinach paneer was good, but another place on island has my favorite spinach paneer. Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... I saw a new Indian restaurant at Ala Moana Center - I think my friends Donna O. and Jackie K. mentioned it to me, also. I told my church auntie and my sister about it. My auntie will go anywhere. My sister said she had never had Indian cuisine before... okay! Let's go! Free, covered, shared parking is much appreciated! Tandoori Express is located next to Assagio on the ground level of the Macy's wing. Service was efficient and helpful! My auntie got the spicy lamb curry - I didn't even want to try it... LOL! My sister got two entrées and she liked both! I got the Butter Chicken - no spicy - but it had some kick to it. I consumed all of it with the rice (to balance out the flavor) that came with the entrée. I also ordered the Garlic Naan and used it to wipe up my plate... yup! The sauce from the Butter Chicken was delicious! The only thing that could improve would be the interior climate of the cozy restaurant. I was not only perspiring from the slightly spicy sauce, but also because I couldn't feel any air-conditioning. Even my auntie commented on my flushed face. We love Indian/Nepalese/Pakistani food and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the two bento choices of Tandoori chicken and lamb kebabs with a side order of garlic naan. The flavors/spices were perfect, not overpowering or bland. The food arrived quickly and piping hot. The restaurant is clean, but a bit warm (not uncomfortable). Located inside Ala moana center, I guess you call this mid level, one below the mall level, next to Macy's and you can come down from the escalator. Small place with just 3 tables. They are pretty busy when we went for our dinner. I would say the price is on the cheap side. We order two 2 choices dinner plate and a garlic naan. The sauces for all our choice or meats are all good. But the meat portion in each of our choice is very small, only a few pieces per choice. Although my two choices with rice plate is cheap at $12.99, I am not that full at the end, if wasn't for the extra naan that we ordered, I will go home hungry. At the end, dinner for two cost about $39, you know that is cheap in Honolulu. Over all, I will give this place a 8 out of 10 because of the tasty sauce. Last came to this spot when it was Himalayan Kitchen. While this spot is Pakistani and Himalayan Kitchen was Indian/Nepali, I was glad to see another spot that offered naan and curries (outside of Japanese curry). Food was great (also got a mango lassi as well) and our server was nice. I ordered the butter chicken and lamb curry; I preferred the butter chicken. Lamb curry was good but it was a flavor of curry I was not familiar with and realized that to may not be my preference. Garlic cheese naan -- lovely ! Some food items were served in takeout containers and a soda we ordered came in its original can, so it's not the typical restaurant vibes --- if you're particularly about that ! I had a great experience at Tandoori Express! I ordered the chicken vindaloo, which wasn't actually on the menu, but they were happy to make it for me anyway. The flavor was really good, though I wish there had been a bit more chicken and other ingredients in the dish. The meal came with a side of rice that was perfectly cooked. I also got a mango lassi, which was delicious, and the garlic naan was absolutely amazing - definitely a highlight of the meal. The only minor thing was I wanted ice in my water but they didn't have any available. The service was good and attentive. All of this came to about $27, and they have dine-in seating so you can enjoy your meal there. One nice bonus: they're open until 8:30, which is a half hour later than when the food court closes at 8, so you have a bit more time to grab dinner if you're running late. An impromptu dinner turned into a delicious culinary adventure. We ordered masala chai, butter chicken, samosas, chaat, garlic naan, and palak paneer--and everything was fantastic. I ordered to go order butter chicken and Roti on Saturday. The sauce is good but the quality of chicken is really bad, I ate only half a piece of chicken. It seems like it was precooked chicken, very chewy and black in color. I saved all chicken pieces in the container and took it back today. I asked to talk to the owner/ chef. He didn't say much, said he will look at the chicken. His wife was very rude. She got very defensive . Rather than listening to me, she said, WE ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE ANYTHING FOR YOU, SORRY WE CANT SATISFY YOU, YOU CAN GO TO OTHER RESTAURANT. I finally tried Tandoori Express and it was easily one of the Best Pakistani/Indian meals I've had in a long time! The atmosphere is cozy and the service was incredibly welcoming...the Owner made us feel right at home..We ordered the Butter Chicken , which was perfectly charred and juicy, and the Lamb Biryani was packed with flavor and aromatic spices...You cannot leave without trying the garlic/cheese naan,(my favorite) it was freshly made and piping hot.
