I was craving Indian food one day. I knew that Kaimana Indian restaurant was a walk from my office on Merchant Street, so I asked Yelp. I found Komala curry house that was closer to my office than the other Indian restaurant in downtown Honolulu. It was a nice 5 minute walk along Merchant Street and then a right turn onto Bishop Street. Komala Curry House is located within walking distance and I was certainly able to ascertain quality Indian cuisine without having to go to other places when I have one nearby. With that said, I wandered to Komala Curry House one casual day in April 2026. It was nice to have the spring Kona low storms behind us and getting back to normal. I checked the Yelp app first for the precise location and left my office. Once on bishop street, I double checked my Yelp app and entered the building it was in. There was a small mini food court on the first floor of the Topa Financial Center and Komala Curry House was inside. It was pretty cool to have them there, so that anyone and everyone can have Indian cuisine at their disposal. Too bad I didn't work in the building, don't have to go outside for lunch. Prices for lunch here is typical. Around $13 ish for the curries and it just goes up from there, depending on the protein you wanted to get. Still, it was delicious way to get in your Indian food fix without the hassle of going to an Indian restaurant and wait along time for them to prepare. It was counter service here and they are quick. Rice and curry, and then you pay. Very quick. Under 5 minutes wait if there's no line ahead of you. The overall experience here at Komala Curry House was good and nice. Very short which is nice because the various curries was sitting in heating trays and the rice was cooked. Just order and serve without having to make each order from scratch, like other Indian restaurants do daily. That's the best part though when you are on the go and want something honest and fast while feeding your Indian foodie fix for the day. The only thing that sucks is that I didn't see any seating area that people can sit and enjoy their meals inside the building. It's largely grab and go here, unless I find the area where they have seating. For the most part though, it was a good experience here and a definitely worth checking out place. I can call this place a hidden gem, especially in downtown Honolulu. The staff here was friendly and nice. Knowledgeable and polite. It's great that they have the specials on the signage next to the counter and a larger sign, so we know how much they charge for every curry plate. The food was good and while the ambiance was nice, I enjoyed getting in and out with my takeout box within 10 minutes. Along with my order of lamb curry, I also purchased an order of naan. Total cost that day was around $22. A regular lamb curry plate was the most expensive out of all of them, but definitely worth the cost if the restaurant is within walking distance from your workplace. And so, if you feel like Indian food and don't like to wait, consider Komala Curry House in downtown Honolulu. Delicious and a hidden gem. Komala Curry House is located on the 1st floor of the Topa Financial Center. Its physical address is 700 Bishop Street, which is a walk and skip from Aloha Tower Marketplace. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. Not sure if they have online ordering but that would be nice. As far as parking goes, parking in downtown Honolulu is generally hard to find. Street parking next to or nearby is good. Best bet is to bring a friend and have them drop you off and pick up the order. Save some time and money on parking. There are parking garages in the area, but it's definitely difficult. If you are like me, there are many bus routes that traverse in and out of the downtown area daily. You can choose the right one for you, although currently Route 7 comes fairly close and stops along Queen Street / Bishop Street. And of course, there's always uber and lyft if you need those services. Komala Curry House is a hidden gem in Honolulu whenever you feel the need to have authentic Indian cuisine. Prices are on par with other Indian restaurants in Honolulu, but the wait time is dramatically reduced. Give em a shot and I'm sure you will be smiling. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Wandered in here for an early early lunch after visiting our cpa upstairs. Open even before 11am! Looks super legit especially the lemon pickles in the fridge that look exactly like the lemon pickles my Indian father in law makes. Anyhow I got the chicken tikka and a veg korma, the hub got a chicken korma and the chickpea something. We also shared a samosa. The samosa wrapper was more chewy like a dumpling rather than flaky and the stuffing was sweet potato instead of potato. I thought it was delicious. The hub also got ginger lemonade that he said was refreshing. The plates came with tons of rice. The food was fine. A bit watery and under seasoned. Maybe good for office workers to be able to go back to work and not have fiery burps. But not what I anticipated when I happily ordered Indian food. This was my first visit to this take-out restaurant in Topa Tower, based on comments from a friend. I ordered a regular lamb curry ($18.50 + tax). The person taking my order said it was spicy ... Good, the hotter, the better. It came with yellow rice and my choice of vegetable ... I opted for something that looked like lentils. It was a generous serving, and the colors were vibrant though perhaps I should have opted for green vegetable as the one chosen had a hue similar to the curry. I ended up covering the rice with both the lamb and the vegetable ... It made for a very tasty (and filling) lunch. Did I like it? Yes, but I think I prefer the sit-down restaurant a few blocks north because: a) it's sit-down, b) there's more variety on the plate, and, c) it's slighter cheaper. However, Komala's portion is larger, offsetting the price difference. I will have to try other dishes before I can say one is better than the other. Let's go with the full-on compliment first: I have eaten here several times and I think for what you pay, you get one of the fairest portion quanities of a quality, flavorful meal that Honolulu has to offer. How the heck does one find this place? Well, when the ship I work aboard makes Honolulu a port of call, we often can be found along the Ewa side pier at Aloha Tower. The agent that takes care of the vessel has an office in the building and they provide us with parking passes for the parking garage as well. Now, due to my seemingly always ordering items from Amazon, I make it easy on them and I personally go there pick up my stuff. So, one day I was wandering around the lobby and I could smell something that I thought was amazing. Within a minute or two I found where the delightful aroma was coming from. So, I ordered. Two days later (which was how long it took to finish what I bought) I was back. It was more to see if it was a fluke or not. It wasn't. My third time back the owner recognized me and my long goatee beard and curled up handlebar mustache and greeted me with a "Welcome back!" I said - with an all too obvious sarcasm in my voice, "I ate here before, but I am still not sure if I liked it... in fact I ate here twice before... so I am only here to check to see if it is good or not. I'll have my usual. " The man and woman behind the counter smiled/laughed and I got more of their Chicken Korma to go. I departed and ate some and also frozen some. Fast forward... Here it is a few weeks later, the ship is now in Guam and the food aboard my vessel has been really umm... (there truly is no other way of saying this, sorry) it has been shitty. Before heading down to the engine room for my midnight to eight shift, I found something in my freezer that I had forgotten about. I brought it to work and heated it up. OMG it only took one spoonful of it to have me remember the origin of the Chicken Korma. Oh, and it inspired me to write this slightly overdue review. The end game is that, I am so very glad that I froze this meal, as I noted the food has been less than spectacular -- often times this happens because we change out crews. The "B team" is almost always new people that know they are not part of the permanent crew. Sadly, this reflects in their attitude and performance... defined, again, as shitty, but without culinary disappointments aboard the vessel I would have never been blessed with finding this magnificent business. So to the owners, I say thank you so much for continually producing meals worthy of praising as well as recommending to my core base of Yelp friends and Elites and strangers alike. I stopped in again since everywhere else had a long line and I figured it give this place another shot. It was much better this time around. This time I had the lamb tikka sprouts salad and lemon rice. What I really wanted was the lamb tikka and chicken korma, the the guy working said that the choice had to be one meat and one veggie. The spout salad went really well with the lamb. Personally I like the salad. It had a really nice crunch and brought freshness to the dish. I love the lamb tikka! I passed by Komala Curry House and wanting to try them for awhile. Unfortunately, my food experience in Indian cuisine is probably none and unfamiliar. I managed to try their Samosa a week ago. It's fried dumplings with curry fillings inside. They were delicious. So today, I tried their mini chicken mild curry with lemon rice for $9. The man who helped me asked what I tried last time. What a friendly guy? He was kind enough to include a scoop of spicy chicken curry for me to try. What a nice complimentary! Honestly, I was afraid that mild curry would be still too spicy for me. I don't do spicy at all. Surprisingly, chicken mild curry was not spicy at all. It was light, with lots of flavors and spices, soft chicken meat, and I think it had light coconut milk. As for the complimentary spicy chicken curry, that was definitely spicy for me but I think if you're a spicy lover, it's probably nothing. I personally think it's good to expand different cuisine in our life time because you never know what you're missing. There's some vegetarian selection here too. If you're unfamiliar with Indian curry feel free to ask. The man is friendly and he'll explain to you. It's in downtown so get there early like 12pm so you can see the entire selection. I wish this place offered a wider range of food like the other Indian restaurants here on this island. The menu is very basic so don't expect too much here. But just letting you know that not all items you see on their website will be out to serve so I highly recommend to call in first to check what's available for the day so you don't get your hopes too up when you drop by. But Id say this place is good if you're looking for a quick bite. I ordered: *Regular size plate* -Lemon rice -Chicken korma (coconut) curry -Okra mung bean kulambu -Side order of Vegetable samosa. I really enjoyed their lemon rice and Chicken korma. The lemon rice was very zesty and flavorful from the lemon and the Chicken Korma was very creamy which paired well with the lemon rice. I wasn't sure which vegetable choice to pick but the owner recommended the Okra mung bean kulambu. To be honest, I wasn't really a fan of it because there was too much okra but the broth that it was in tasted decent. I will try something else next time. I'm lucky this place is in my building as it has a lot of vegetarian choices daily. Not saying it's super healthy because it probably has high oil, butter or coconut milk content=high calorie. But at least it's not processed, feels like home cooking. You're probably better off eating Indian food than Subway. The decadent indulgences: The samosa is amazing you can taste the spices in the potato filling. The butter Naan bread (Paratha) really tasted like butter. I was like omg this is so darn delicious but I feel my butt getting bigger. Eat these sparingly as fried or high fat content + gluten. It's exotic and tasty, reasonably priced. LUCKY FIND I came to Topa Financial Center to visit Daisy Cafe! I never thought I would come to this building for a coffee shop. Usually I come to the building to get help with Charles Schwab and my investments. The markets have not been kind to most of us investors last year. Economic triggers have caused a domino effect of change in the world. Inflation, business going under, new ones emerging... all sorts of stuff... But fortunately.... That change has led me to Kamala Curry House! If not for all these changes in the world. They may have been at their old location where I would have never found them and there would be a hole in my heart where their food should be. Everything looked so good. I tried the Lamb Tikka Masal and lightning stuck behind me like some kind of anime scene where the main character gets activated into beast mode. I wanted to keep grinding and grinding and not stop. I will definitely be back for more. I will buy more food tho to make my trip worth it. The small plate was 14, 15 dollars ish. Whenever I am craving Indian food and don't feel like walking very far (I work across the street hehe) I usually go here. The food is good and I never regret going here. I like the butter chicken... it says spicy but it is not really that spicy (though I wish it was). I also like getting the mango chutney on the side to eat with my curry. One of two locations in downtown Honolulu, this is one of the better lunch time places to get Indian. Located in Topa Center's food court, it's conveniently located for people working in the Makai areas of the city. The restaurant is obviously very small and has shared tables inside (you're better off getting the food to go). The owner was friendly and no-nonsense, just fast and efficient to get you out the door. They had many selections, both meat and vegetarian for the combo plates. Prices are excellent, especially for portion size and food quality. They also have side dishes like naan, samosas, and desserts. Many drink choices are available, most at fair prices. I have to remove one star as it's a cash-only establishment, which is inexcusable with technologies available today (I would go more often if it weren't for this inconvenience). I had two vegetarian curries- one with potato and peas and a spicy one with assorted vegetables. The saffron rice is always delicious. I had a butter naan, which was small but flavorful. If you look in the refrigerator case, the top half is beverages while the bottom is packed with spices - whole cumin seeds, mustard seeds, etc. When you taste the food it is clear that the proprietor takes no shortcuts! When I have visited there are typically three meat entrees (different preparations of lamb, chicken, and shrimp) with four vegetarian dishes (eggplant, dal, chana, etc.), with the spice label noted for each choice. I enjoy the spiciest meals, but even the mild entrees are by no means bland. Everything I've tried pairs wonderfully with their rice, but they also have naan/puri and samosas as well as salads. The saffron rice was also delicious with all kind of spices that I can't name. The mini (which is quite a bit for lunch) is $5. There are a half-dozen choices and some parathas and flat breads. Pretty legit! Not too many Indian spots in Honolulu and I discovered this place today with coworkers. Everyday the dishes are different. Today was first time for me to try chicken korma. Korma means coconut in Indian. It was a chicken curry dish with coconut milk and Veges. I ordered mini plate which came out to about $7.50x it's served over yummy yellow saffron rice. The dishes are usually pretty good, not spicy enough for my taste most of the time, but it does the trick if I am in a rush and want curry for lunch. The staff are friendly enough, but generally really busy. Serving sizes are average, and they charge extra if you want to get an additional veggie instead of rice, which I guess is ok, but it jacks the price up a bit. I love this place and have eaten here almost every day for the past six months. The food is always delicious and flavorful. I'm not a big spicy fan but even I can handle their spicy dishes. Every day they have a selection of fish, chicken, and lamb entrees. There are mild and spicy forms of the chicken dish. I usually have the spicy chicken dish and a mild veggie dish. My favorite of them all is the Pepper Chicken (on Wednesday) and the Tomato Dhal. The ginger lemonade is also a real treat. For $7 you should get a scoop of meat curry and a scope of veggie curry because no one wants to just eat one of those two things for lunch and a full plate would probably be too big. I love curry and was invited to come here for lunch with a workmate. The spicy marsala chicken was decent, not nearly as spicy as I wanted it to be, so I added sriracha to make it perfect. The flavor was tasty, but not excellent. The rice was fantastic and full of flavor with the Indian spices. The meal was healthier than most Indian places I go for lunch, and they seem to pride themselves for this as there is a sign out front talking about healthy spices they use. They offer a cafeteria style dining experience. You stand in line and select your entrée(s) through a glass counter. I ordered a mini vegetable plate ($6.50 pre-tax) which comes with yellow rice and your choice of vegetable dish. They had 2 vegetarian dishes that day. I don't remember what the dish I ordered was called but it had sweet potato, carrots and beans with just a mild spicy taste. Usually Indian food is full of flavors from the massive variety of spices they use but my dish was on the blander side. The rice was piping hot but the entrée seemed lukewarm. They mixed it around before shoveling it over the rice but it was still dry. Perhaps it's not a popular dish and sat out, without being mixed, a little longer than it should have. Next time, I will order a common entrée such as Chicken Curry. For a mini plate, it was very filling! The service came with a smile and they even provided a takeout bag for my leftovers! read more

While I didn't expect for the food to rival the Indian Food I get in San Diego. I did expect for it to still have that taste Indian food is known for and did I mention that two regular plates cost 30 bucks for me and a colleague...Jeez... I got the Spicy veggies which didn't quite have that turmeric, cumin , coriander , garam masala flavor profile that I was hoping for. My Colleague said the lamb was - ok. The spiciness was nonexistent and I ended up tossing my food l from being disappointed. Also for the price I paid, I didn't get Naan, samosa or a desert included. Those items are extra. Ramesh has been running this one for as long as I've worked downtown, about 13 years at this point. I believe his wife runs the one up the street at Remington College building. I like catching up with him as I get my regular mini plate. Rice is nice and has some crunchy peanuts inside, love that texture. They have veggie and meat options for the curries and all levels of spiciness from hot to not at all (not:korma, which means coconut of I'm not mistaken).
