Sunday April 26, 2026 We was looking for a place to eat in the Kapahulu area. I remember as Haili's Hawaiian Foods moved out a while back. New Kamana Kitchen moved in here. We love Indian food and I love Lamb! We parked on Kapahulu Avenue which is metered streets parking. Free on Sunday! We walked in, waited a little while and we were seated shortly after. We ordered Chili Fish $13.95 Butter Chicken $19.45 Lamb Korma $20.45 Butter Garlic Naan $4.45 Butter Garlic Cheese Naan $6.45 It came out shortly after. It looked good and it was good. Finally got to try this place with friends which was good for sharing. Went on Sunday at 5:30 and were impressed at how almost all the tables were full. Service was nice and friendly but poor guys were smashed trying to juggle everyone. We got chili chicken with bell peppers and onions, chicken tikka masala, shrimp biryani, chicken kebab with sauce, and both naan and roti. The dish with the most flavor was the chili chicken which friend said reminded him of a sizzling sechuan platter without the sizzle. Portions are generous so we had a lot of leftovers to take home. I thought the chicken was a little overcooked and cut a bit large for my liking, but flavors were good and even better as leftovers when they had soaked in more. For dessert my friend and I shared a Gajar halwa- cooked carrot pudding which was surprisingly good. We couldn't put our finger on the flavor but good old Google helped us identify it as cardamom. Our other friends had rice pudding which was not bad and homemade pistachio ice cream, which I didn't care for as much, but they liked it. read more

Large portions and delicious food! I ended up coming here twice over the holidays (with two different groups) because everyone's a fan. I've primarily tried their vegetarian and vegan dishes, but everything I had was delicious. Their portions are large, come with rice, and are easily shareable. I've left with leftovers every time. Dinner in Kapahulu, Honolulu, Hawaii... I was hopeful after reading reviews of the parking situation... There are a few free stalls on the Palani Avenue side. However, they were all filled when we got there on a Saturday evening. Luckily, someone was leaving a street stall and we took it! YAY! We entered the spacious restaurant, formerly occupied by Haili's Hawaiian Foods. Bee was our competent, friendly, and helpful server. He knew the menu well and was able to answer every question with humor and wisdom! Thanks for being so entertaining and efficient! One of our table mates ordered lamb kabobs... wow! It was sizzling on a platter and smoking so much that it was taken back to the kitchen for a bit... LOL! I got my favorite Butter Chicken (with rice) and Garlic Naan... delicious!!! A no frills, always reliable Indian restaurant. Delicious food that is reasonably priced compared to other nearby Indian spots. I like to order the Chicken vindaloo, medium spice, and the vegetable samosa appetizer. The chicken in the vindaloo is tender and soaks up the flavor of all the aromatic spices. Medium spice level is on the milder side, so if you want spice, order it hot. I also really appreciate that the curry orders include rice, spiced with cardamom and clove. Most places require you to order rice on the side. The samosas have a thin flaky wrapping and are not too oily, and they taste even better with the minty sauce it comes with. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The only inconvenience is the parking. There is 1 spot in back, on Winam Ave. that is usually taken, so you may have to find street parking on Kapahulu. read more

im going to be honest - im not the most adventurous person when it comes to food. My husband on the other hand is more open with different types of cuisines and he's loved indian food as far as i remember. I've heard good things about Kamana Kitchen and that their original location was downtown. Their new spot opened up in kapahulu - the old hawaiian food restaurant on the corner and next to pizza hut. Parking is available in front of an apartment complex which is SUPER WEIRD because sometimes the people who live in the apartment just hang outside of their doors or lanai and just watch you. Kinda of a bummer for the residents there that probably don't have parking for their unit, but a win for the restaurant owner because parking is pretty rough in Kapahulu. During lunch there is a 15% off promo before 2 pm. I showed them the flyer just in case since someone prior did not get the discount. I ordered - butter chicken, cheese naan, lamb kabobs and veggie samosa. everything was really good! I didn't try the lamb tho! but my husband said he enjoyed everything. read more

This place is just down the street from me, we were craving Indian so decided to try it out. Let me tell you, everything was so delicious and flavorful. We had the samosas chat (mouthwatering) and we also had 1 chicken tika and 1 butter chicken both came with rice. The guy was super nice who took our order, and the food came out fast. We drove by this place the other day and decided to give it a try. We ordered delivery for lunch and were extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered a variety of dishes to try the menu, and the order was not inexpensive. Unfortunately, none of the items met expectations. Here's why: Meat Samosa - Dry, oily, not tasty. Felt like it was reheated. Chilli Chicken - Not bad or great. Actually the only dish that we ate. Mixed Tandoori Grill - Extremely dry, artificially colored, not flavorful. Papadum - missing Item. Gulab Jamun - Very watery syrup. Raita - Missing Item. Butter Naam - Soggy. Mango Lassi - We couldn't taste mango only yogurt. The food was so poorly prepared that my Indian boyfriend commented that this is exactly how Indian food gets a bad reputation. Overall, a very disappointing experience and not something we would order again. Maybe use this review as a chance for improvement, as we are part or the 10% that didn't love your restaurant. read more

This branch of the Chinatown Kamana location - the New Kamana Kitchen is wonderful! I have been wanting to bring my kiddos to the original location for a while but parking there is iffy at best. So I was so excited for this location when it opened. I FINALLY got them in and the space is clean and huge in comparison to the other location. It's clean and there's a hand washing sink available too! Now.....the service - outstanding. A nice young man named Sebastian was so engaging with my children (3 - 8 year old boys) that they felt like they made a friend. The owner Raj was kind and spent time talking about the food with my sons. Speaking of the food....the boys say, "5 stars because they were able to make vegetables taste good!" We had the shrimp korma, shrimp palak, mixed grill, aloo gobi, naan, garlic naan, samosas, and cheese naan. It was all amazing. But shockingly to myself and the boys, they all agreed that the shrimp palak was their fave. I love when Indian food can be tasty without being oily. And has so much flavor with or without spice. it's NEW to us My friends and I were excited to try New Kamana Kitchen after viewing all the recent reviews on Yelp. NOTES 1. BYOB. The provide glasses and a wine opener if needed. 2. Parking is challenging. There are some stalls (please make sure to parked in the marked stalls), or street parking. 3. The A/C is not too cold, just fyi. FOOD After perusing their menu, we chose to the Meat Samosa to start, and ordered the Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Chicken Tandoor as mains. An order of Cheese Naan completed the meal. The samosas were incredibly delicious, a precursor of what was to come out from the kitchen. Firstly, the food was brought out promptly. Almost immediately, our group of 4 commented that the Chicken Tandoori was quite good. Unfortunately, I think I was the lone person that preferred the Chicken Tikka Masala over the Butter Chicken.....though the Butter Chicken was good. Just not as great as the Chicken Tikka. Honourable mention goes to the Cheese Naan! So good! I secretly wanted my own order. SERVICE Very attentive. The staff was very welcoming when we walked in, and just friendly and polite. First off, amazing customer service; I'm not sure who our server was but he had so much pizzazz and spunk! He almost sold me on ordering more food when I already knew what I wanted and that says a lot. My friend and I decided to share their Veggie Pakora, Butter Chicken, and Garlic Naan. Absolutely LOVED the Pakora. I never had it before but it reminded me of a cross between falafels and onion rings. It was a plentiful amount and paired really well with the sauces (not sure what they were but combined was delicious) The food didn't look like much at first but halfway through, we were getting pretty stuffed and I'm glad we didn't order any more because I would have ended up taking a nap there. While I don't go out to eat as often anymore with kids, I do still get takeout and this is one of my favorite takeout spots. It's a little expensive, but I absolutely love their curries and especially their cheese naan. The location is convenient. The parking is easy and the workers are so accommodating and friendly. Happy to report that New Kamana Kitchen cooked those dishes superbly. The server we had was really funny - he joked around with us and made ordering and his check-ins very enjoyable. Only knocking this rating down because 1) The benches we sat on were rather worn in and torn, making the cushioning a bit uneven; and 2) Parking was hard to find when we went later at night - there are some spots dedicated for the restaurant, maybe a half dozen or so, but they were all full for a while when we first arrived. The spice in Kapahulu... Love this location as it's one of very few that offers free private parking which is quite difficult in Kapahulu though the search is always worth the effort as what you'll find here are some yummy flavorful dishes. Walking in I was quite impressed with the amount of seating they have here though I do remember pretty far back in the day of what it used to be and am so delighted to see that the building still remains the same and is thriving with New Kamana Kitchen and what it offers. The staff here is just a delight as I took mom out for dinner and decided on this place as I know how much she loves naan bread and know that grazing here would be just perfect and we ordered Butter Chicken and nice that we're able to adjust the spice level which had to be mild was just perfect as it arrived practically spilling over the side was a generous lovely goodness and we were just so excited. All dishes come with rice which always paired up perfect as mom ate it with her butter naan bread and I ate mine with rice making it the perfect pairing with this pair and thank goodness we stuck with this simple meal as it was enough to put us into instant food coma and packed it for lunch tomorrow...woohoo! Service was great. For a busy Thursday night, we were seated almost immediately. Food was served quickly. Especially for this hungry guy LOL. The restaurant itself is pretty big, but was a little warm inside even with the ac running. For food, we ordered the butter chicken, chicken saag, & shrimp korma, garlic cheese & garlic naan, & the samosa chat. All were good, but my favorites were the garlic cheese naan and butter chicken. The food came out pretty quick. Service was ok, as it did take some time to flag the server down at the end of the meal & no one came to check on us during. New Kamana Kitchen is very easy to find in Kapahulu. They have parking around the corner, although my husband and I parked in the paid lot on the left side street (our bad :)). Walking in, it's open, a lot of light, with a clean but hole in the wall vibe. This is not a bad thing, we usually like places like this because it's a sign of potentially good food to us . The service was good - nice and stopped by just enough to check in and still let us dine in peace :). The food was so good! We regret not getting at least one of the dishes as medium, but that was our own fault for being cautious to order. Everything was tasty, and the meats were simmered to a soft and flavorful perfect bite. The palak paneer was actually the best we've had on the island so far! Of course the butter naan was also good, thicker than I've had before but that just made the meal so much more rich and satisfying. Based on a take out order, this place was not enjoyable . We ordered a mango lassi and it came from a milk container. It was not good, tasted like melted fake mango ice cream. A non descriptive restaurant on the corner of Kapahulu and Palani. Best to park on Date street...only street parking available. The food was good with rich sauces. Had 3 dishes, palek paneer, coconut fish curry and lamb tikki marsala. As well as garlic naan. I have to say this would best be a take out spot...the restaurant is clean but ac didn't seem to work so it was a bit warm and there's not much ambiance. Just plain booth seats. Also a funny thing with paying the bill with a credit card... when handed the device for the bill, the first thing was the tips screen and no summary of the bill, not even the total bill amount. Only once the device processed the charges and a print out was presented did i get a chance to review the bill. I just thought this was a bit odd. read more
