Nepali and Indian cuisine in Chinatown... A refreshing twist in from the usually Asian foods found in the area and why not take a tour and dip into the variety that we're lucky to have here in Hawaii though not the expert in this type of foods as I haven't been in the region or have experience the culture but knew that I'd be in for some spice in my life. This newer shop is more an express rather than the dine in like the other location and is found in Maunakea Marketplace in the heart of Chinatown which makes it easy to access as there are multiple entrances as I found parking right on N King Street so it was just walking through Kekaulike getting there. Thank you Nadine for the suggestion especially Sunday though crowded is free parking so it's a matter of finding the spot which I did so it was a easy stroll and find as it's grouped with other food stalls and the vibe is relaxing with a few tables available so that enjoying your bite is easy in the shaded area versus in the hot sun. I know the volume they so generously portion out so it was just the single plate for me and an easy choice of Butter Chicken along with rice it was a yummy paring and the kind gentleman asked if I wanted vegetables which I did started to prepare some to order and it was nice side along with my meal. The express style is very fast and convenient and though there are some language barrier the staff was so pleasant it's nice to see that many come here to enjoy something that's not usually found in the area. Thank you!

Brand new Indian Buffet next to Maguro bros in the Maunakea food court. Everything we tried was good but I should have ordered it more spicy. Prices were fair and service was friendly.

An absolute gem in the heart of Honolulu's Chinatown. Himalayan Kitchen on Maunakea Street is soooo bomb, with the best flavors and so many options!! Every dish had a perfect balance of spices, and the portions were generous. We got the garlic naan, an assortment of yummy sauces, and the mix tandoori - a combination of tandoor chicken, charred shrimp, lamb, and fish that I absolutely adored. If you're in Chinatown, don't miss out on this hidden treasure. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

Their closed didn't last to long. Over priced and not very good Indian food. Not the ideal restaurant for downtown area.

My hubby had Indian food before and said that I should try it after we left the Convention Center this past weekend. I was willing to give it a try. The food was actually really good. You could pick your spice level from 0-10. Of course I chose 0, lol. We got three entrees: Lamb Madrass $20.95, Shrimp Madrass $20.95 and Butter Chicken $18.95. They were all tasty, but portions were kind of small. It did come with Basmati Rice. We also ordered two Garlic Naan $4.50 each to share. It was garlicky and crispy around the edges. I actually really liked the food. It had great flavor from all the seasonings and wasn't spicy at all.

The stuffed naan was sooo good, such a great twisted to regular naan and so many different flavors of it to try! It pairs great with your curry dish as well. My chicken curry was sooo flavorful and they added just the right kick of spice for me! Which is super spicy! Maybe not the best ambiance as we sat in the parking garage as cars drove by, but that didn't stop me from loving my food. Service was good, food came out fresh and hot so I can't complain. I was craving a coffee, as I was tired from work but they don't serve it, so I just hydrated on water instead.

We requested that our dishes be prepared with a milder spice level, which turned out to be a great choice because we were able to fully appreciate all the wonderful spices and flavors. We ordered the special mixed kebab biryani platter, which included shrimp, chicken, and lamb served over a bed of biryani rice. The presentation was impressive! We also ordered the fish tandoori, which came in a flavorful curry sauce that my family absolutely loved. As a special treat, the chef prepared another fish dish for us in a coconut curry style. The taste was immaculate--rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. We couldn't stop dipping our stuffed cheesy naan into the curry sauce. None of us wanted that dish to end--we wished we had ordered more! A nice bonus is that many of these special dishes can be made upon request. Just contact the restaurant ahead of time, and they will gladly prepare them for your visit. Our servers were fantastic as well. They constantly made sure we were taken care of, refilling water, bringing extra napkins, and providing boxes when needed. With the new décor in place, the restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and inviting. It is a smaller space, so tables are fairly close together, but that only adds to the cozy atmosphere--you might even make friends with fellow diners. Overall, Cafe Maharani continues to be my go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine!

We placed an order ahead of time and after having difficulties with parking and the doors, they had more than enough time to have our order ready. They didn't have any patrons in there and I can only guess that's because they had just opened. So the wait time threw me. As for the quality of the food, I'd say it's mid. I lived in northern India for a year and I've become snobby about quality Indian cuisine. We ordered samosas, naan, yellow curry, tiki masala and dal over rice. It was mid. I always give a new (for me) spot three tries before I write anything, but since I was a traveler I'd be remiss if I didn't write something up.

Eventually, we called the restaurant and they told us to look for Namaste. Overall, solid Indian Food. I ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh extra spicy, but it lacked a little heat. We ordered the Butter Chicken Spicy too, but it fell a bit short. That being said, the flavor of both dishes was very good. We both thought the Garlic Naan was perfect! They have wine, prosecco, and beer too. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't offer Indian Beers such as Flying Horse or Taj. I would return, but would probably check out a few of the other options in the area too.

It's a small restaurant that has the maximum capacity of 15-20 people guests. Each appetizer's portion can be shared with about 2 people (if you don't want to eat too little of each serving). Price was reasonable for average level of dining in a small restaurant. Each curry order is for a guest, which comes with a bowl of rice. I believe you can have them to serve additional rice if you feel your curries need more rice. For 2 people, maybe it's better to order at least 2-3 naans (Indian bread that can be eaten with curry as well) We ordered Rogan Josh, Saag Paneer, Tadka Biryani, Tadka Tandoori, and other different types of curries and naans. I feel the curries with the lamb, I couldn't taste much of the lambs like some other Indian cuisine places I tried before. I personally prefer to have a bit more lamp smell and taste instead of curries cover most of its taste. The curry I like the most there were Saag Paneer (color looks different from the rest of curries we ordered, feeling it was more unique, and I enjoyed the cheese inside as well) My friends and family really enjoyed their naans. Staff are all nice, friendly, and courteous. Pleasant experience to dine there with friends or family. Will definitely go again in future time.
