This place is great. Awesome Indian food. It's a small hole in the way, but the food tastes great. The only thing that I would be aware of is that when the item says spicy, it is spicy. We got the Spicy Eggplant and holey moley was it hot. Tons and tons of flavor if you can handle the spice. They also give a lot of food. The owner is very friendly and is quick to take your order. Next stop on my brother's and my Indian Food trial was Lasoon! It was so fun for us to be back on the UH campus!! We didn't have as much time today so a plate-lunch style, no formal dining service was perfect. We absolutely loved the flavor of everything we ordered. So fresh and flavorful, every dish was unique and rich. They don't have naan but they did have roti which was delicious. The portion size was perfect for a lunch but I imagine for someone looking for a slightly bigger meal it might be a bit small. I really want to come back on a day where they have the boiled egg curry as that is one of my favorite dishes. I'm not sure when they have that but, I would love it! I did notice that the prices have gone up since the last menu photos I saw on this Yelp page so I've added the ones I took while I was there. It's cool when you have colleagues who are foodies. You see, I work in a large office where you get to witness and smell the various foods that colleagues have during lunch time. Several weeks ago, a colleague mentioned Indian curry which piqued my interest as I do enjoy Indian food. The mentioning of eggplant and boiled egg curry really got my attention and I just had to investigate. Luckily, several colleagues were going to Lasoon, that specializes in Indian and Nepali cuisine, so I jumped on the bandwagon and ordered what was well liked amongst my colleagues. I have never been to Lasoon but found out they are located inside the University of Hawaii inside the Paradise Palms Food Court. They opened in Aug 2018 that also offers vegetarian options. One of my colleagues just raves over the boiled egg curry which I've never had before. To be frank, I've never heard of boiled eggs in curry dishes before, so I just had to give this a try. Follow them on IG for their daily specials, which lists their proteins and sides options. After submitting my order, I waited patiently for my colleague to return. THE VERDICT: I do understand the "Curry in a hurry." concept as this business is in the university and this grab-and-go carryout food exceeded my expectations. I'm no expert in Indian cuisine but I do appreciate the various spices used for their curries. Although this dish sounded odd to me, the boiled egg curry (Thursday special) works. Your mouth is familiar with the texture of boiled eggs, which are sliced in half lengthwise and cooked in a powerful curry sauce. For my palate, I didn't find the heat powerful, and this dish was just right for me. For those who know me, I'm not a fan of long grain rice but do like Basmati rice with curries. Solid dish. I also ordered the butter chicken which was okay but nothing to write home about. Chicken thighs are cut in large chunks and cooked prior before adding them into the curry sauce. I did appreciate the amount of food served but the flavors didn't really seep into the chicken. For the sides I sampled the cabbage, chickpea, and okra (also Thursday special) and I enjoyed both the cabbage and okra. Food was tasty and good volume served here. I also got their samosas, and I reheated them in the toaster oven and work and it was pretty good for fast food. I also got extra plates to surprise my family and they really enjoyed the food. Favorite niece by default and favorite nephew by default both commented on the tasty food from Lasoon and gave thumbs up. I did another attempt with Lasoon and sure didn't disappoint. This round we tried the lamb curry that was a winner. Most pieces were tender and flavorful. Loved the okra so it's a plus to order on Thursdays. I also got the spicy boiled egg curry that satisfied my tummy. Tip: reheat the roti and samosa for optimal quality. Absolutely satisfying. Overall, pleasant experiences at Lasoon where I'm game on getting their food again. I don't go to the University but luckily work with colleagues who appreciate good food and patronize Lasoon regularly where I get to submit my food order and have it delivered to my desk. read more

Man, my wife and I love this place. The service is fast and the restaurant is clean. They have plenty of recipes to choose from, but not so many that it's causing traffic ;). Boiled egg curry was so so delicious. Eggs are my favorite thing to eat so being able to enjoy it in the curry sauce was exquisite and super flavorful! Overall, this place isn't as good as other Indian restaurants on O'ahu, but it's a decent campus option. I would've given it 3 stars except the service and prices were great. I got the "Special Combo" plate which comes with rice, 2 entrees, & 2 veggies for $14. It's a great amount of food for the price. I tried the daal, another veggie dish w/ beans and potatoes, the butter chicken & the lamb curry. The daal was a little undercooked and bland. The other veggie dish had better flavor. There were beautiful bite sized no-fat lamb morsels in the curry. Its flavorful and not spicy. There is a spicy squeeze sauce at the counter that I squirted that made the heat factor perfect for me. What a vibrant display of color and flavor. Lots of meat pieces in their curries and chicken stews. I got the butter chicken plate with spinach and lentil sides, wonderful. Not overly spicy and easy to eat. There is a liquid spice bottle you can add to your meal to make it hotter, but the heat overall was good for me. Nothing overly spiced, oily or salty, felt good after I ate my meal. Meal came with roti, a crispy flat bread, so flaky, crispy, so toasted and so satisfying. Had their refreshing watermelon drink made out of real fruit with my meal and a sweet creamy mango lassi for dessert. Its located on the UH campus in the Paradise Palms food court. Tried this place for the first time the other week, I need to make a review because these guys are just a class act! They have that old-school customer service. They are friendly, they smile, they even give you a sample! And yes, their food is good too. But one classy thing that I noticed is on one of the customers were waiting a little too long for their food, they went to the table and they gave them a free mango drink. I had the samosa and an eggplant bowl with white rice. I couldn't wait to eat it so I had it in my car. It was SO good. This eggplant let me tell you it would raise me back from the dead. Chefs kiss. I went at 10am so all their trays were still full, they had just as many vegetarian options as they did meat. I wish I could've tried more things. I'll definitely come back again and again. This eggplant was bomb tho. It was perfectly spicy and the samosa was pretty good too. Lasoon is a great addition to Paradise Palms. Lots of flavorful Nepalese / Indian dishes! And they let you sample anything/everything! The butter chicken was delightful (although not quite as good as mine), as was the chicken curry, and the three dals were delicious as well. But I settled on lamb curry (which was a different spice mix than the chicken curry) with sides of veggies and lentils (dal) and Nepalese roti bread which has an almost pastry-like quality. And the portions are huge. I did persevere and finish everything! My only complaint is that it wasn't spicy enough (and I'm a total wuss when it come to spicy). I had water, but the QB had their yogurt mango drink, which she said was delicious. Definitely 2 thumbs up and a tip of the Dhaka topi to this new campus eatery! read more

Wow! A five star eating establishment at UH??? I was intrigued when I saw the location of this place and the great reviews it had. I also always knew this place as "Indian Cafe" and did not know that they renovated or changed owners! I really like Indian food in general, especially the basics such as naan, tikka masala and biryani rice. I had to give Lasoon a try! What a surprise it was. I was prepared to get the butter chicken plate (another basic Indian classic that I like) and roti. I looked at other student's orders and realized the plate was probably to big for me to finish so I decided to opt out of the roti. I'm not sure if roti and naan is the same thing? But it looked pretty similar. For my two vegetable sides I picked jackfruit curry and mixed veggies. The jackfruit curry got me so curious since I know they use jackfruit and a "meat" replacement for vegans so I had to try it! I'll try the saag next time, I hope! I believe they change their vegetables sides a bit everyday. The mix veggies were good, as it was just vegetables with some curry sauce, and I already love curry. The jackfruit curry was interesting to try, but I don't think is my taste since I'm not vegetarian or vegan! But it got rid of my curiosity of jackfruit as a meat replacement. Wow was I full! I couldn't even finish my plate. I think the best value for money is to get their bowls, which is a choice of one entree and it comes with basati rice. Can't believe that it is only $5!! I also tried their Mango Lassi which was pre-made. I thought it would've been fresh, but it actually tasted good! Maybe the pre make it in batches for it to be more convenient. I've had this place in my bookmarks for a while but haven't gone because I hate dealing with parking around UH. Just a quick review- Pros: good-size portions, okay price, a variety of options Con: the taste. Lamb was bland, butter chicken was somehow sweet and dull at the same time, veggie options I felt I could have made tastier at home. So needless to say, I don't agree with all the five-star reviews. Lasoon offers the best food on campus. Friendly staff and prompt service. Plenty of vegetarian and meat options. I never get tired of their food because it's so flavorful and masterfully cooked! They recently raised their prices, so I won't be able to eat there as often as I would like. The vegetarian bowl used to be only $4.95 but it's $7 now! Thanks inflation!! Now I'm forced to bring snacks from home or just go hungry while on campus. It used to be the most affordable place to eat but it's pretty much on par with other places now as far as price goes. I would literally go to Lasoon every other day for lunch. They were really accommodating with me being "zero waste" and put my vegetarian plate in my own container (pre-pandemic). Imagine my surprise when I finally make my way to Paraside Palms to buy lunch for the first time in months, and my go-to India Curry Cafe is GONE. And I aint mad about it. Enter Lasoon. You notice a difference right away. Everything is cleaner and a little more modern. The customer service is excellent, and the employees are SO friendly. The menu options are a little different from before, and the plates that the food are served in are compartmentalized boxes now, instead of plates with foil on top. Lasoon means garlic, and they feature Nepali and Indian flavors in their cuisine. I spoke with the man who served me, and he verified that Lasoon has new owners, and most importantly a new chef. And I can really taste the difference. Everything is so flavorful with just the right amount of spice and sweetness. I ordered a butter chicken plate with a side of bread, which was a little under $11 altogether, and came with a serving of their butter chicken on a bed of rice, and 2 veggie sides. I opted for daal (lentils) and cauliflower potatoes as my sides. The server was also kind enough to give me a small sample of their lamb curry, which was delicious, just like everything else.
