On a recent visit to my mom's house, she took us to Tampico's for dinner. As usual, I ordered the Burrito Cargado and it did not disappoint! Always consistent, always delicious! I didn't get her name, but our waitress was fantastic! She was consistently checking in with us to ensure that we had everything we needed. Not annoying by any means, just doing a great job. The burrito seems pretty simple (a large burrito covered in cheese, meat sauce, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, black olives, and sour cream). Tampico's is the ONLY place that I've found a burrito like this, and to me, this delicious. It's rare that I deviate from ordering the Burrito Cargado because I enjoy it so much. read more

I have been coming here since I was 10 years old and this is my first ever time to think to do a review the service was horrible, there is me and my wife and one other table getting served at the time and the waitress messed up my order i got the super nachos as a meal "no jalapeños" and im flabbergasted that lo and behold there was jalapeños on my nachos. Apparently i Found out from the waitress there is two separate guacamole's, my wife's guacamole had no jalapeños but for some odd reason when i ask for no jalapeños my nachos guacamole has jalapeños. Received actually regular nachos and still charges me for super nachos. Yes its a $2 difference but its just the fact that they put sour cream on the side it should be on the nachos. Our waitress, Yenisleiey was very RUDE. Will never be coming back again when im in town, not worth it. read more

I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich which came out with no buffalo sauce, so I asked if she could get me some Buffalo sauce. Waitresses response was, "let me see if we have Buffalo sauce." Uhhhhh... it's on the menu as a Buffalo chicken sandwich. She brought some Buffalo sauce and the check. I again was without tea and my friend out of margarita. I'm assuming she was saying it was time to go. We were there less than 40 minutes and the terrible service and rushing us out and apparently she was doing it with every table lost them a lot of money because we were going to watch the game and have more drinks and also dessert before we left. There were many open tables and zero people waiting to be seated so it wasn't not due to them being busy. I will never return there the my Buffalo chicken sandwich seemed to be frozen tenders and frozen fries. I had eaten there before and the service was great from the waitress Joy. She was exceptional. The chimichanga was below below average but the service made up for the food with her. read more

Absolutely unorganized First I have to compliment Tampicos for opening after Hurricane Francine; everyone was happy to get out after the storm. My issue was the lack of accurate timeframes and lack of organization at the restaurant. When I called in my order at 6:03 I was told the wait would be 45 minutes. When I arrived the parking lot was packed. The waiting area was also packed, I was asked it I was picking up or wanted a table. I was never asked my name for the order. I only saw the cashier who handles take out twice IN AN HOUR. Finally the poor hostess went to the kitchen to find our orders. Some people waiting behind me ordered an hour after me, however, all of the orders came out at the same time. Several people waiting for a table were sat, served and left, while us waiting for take out were STILL standing in line. It is one thing to be busy, it is a complete opposite to have such poor service at an established restaurant. read more

Me and co-worker went to have dinner after work. The food wasn't that great, I ordered "Supreme Ranchero", which I see is not on the menu any more, Thank God! It had Steak, Chicken and Shrimp but then they threw in Potatoes. Not tasty at all, but the couple of Medium Margaritas I had were good. Got there at Happy Hour, the cost only $13.00 bucks, not bad. So have Alyssa get you drunk before you order and after you eat, this way it's a fantastic restaurant deserving of Michelin Stars! read more

I grew up in this area and Tampico's is one of the only restaurants so people are highly critical of a place they go to all the time. A review under 4 stars is not at all warranted. Every time a new Mexican restaurant opens up (and closes shortly after) people proudly exclaim "It's better than Tampico's!" Why? Because Tampico's is the bar! They have set a high standard and those places are never really as good as Tampico's. Admittedly I've settled on one dish that I really like, the Super Nachos. I also like the Burrito Allegra (chili & cheese burrito) and the Chimichanga. They have, hands down, the best salsa anywhere. I love that it's served hot. Some people are used to salsa being cold and think it's weird to get hot salsa. Those people are wrong. Their margaritas are also consistently fantastic. I get the Patron meltdown most of the time. This place was completely horrible. The service was terrible. And there wasn't a rush or anything. He was just slow. I'm from the Hammond area and have never seen "hot" salsa. Like temperature wise. Like it's gross. There is 6 Mexican restaurant just in Hammond and none of them serve hot salsa. Including all over the country. Like if ppl like it cool. Just have the option of cold salsa too. And on to my meal. $12.95 for a plan chicken quesadilla.... like what? And it wasn't even good. It was cut up for me. The tortilla was burnt and greasy and there was hardly any chicken on this. I needed a quick lunch so I stopped in at Tampico for some Mexican cuisine. I bought a beef taco, tamale, and a chicken enchilada. The taco and tamale were edible, but the enchilada was absolutely delicious! I'll be getting that the next time I return here. The waitstaff was very attentive and prompt and the kitchen staff put together my dinner quickly (as is expected from any Mexican restaurant). The cantina (bar) looked inviting as well, but that would have to happen another evening. They even had fancy chocolate and key lime after-dinner mints. ^_^ Overall a great experience. I phoned in a pick up order. They took my name and said ready in 20 minutes. I get there to pick up my order and they have no idea who I was and no order for me. Well I was not happy. I wanted the meal so I waited for it. I get home the food was cold and they didn't put a complete meal together. Forgot the rice and beans which came with the meal. The frozen margerita wasn't worth a darn and the food was burnt and dry. I'm picky with most Mexican restaurants because they're a dime a dozen. This one however is sadly the one people go to the most because the other places are even worse. I actually had to have them take my burnt food back and they discounted my meal. But barely. Their margaritas were very good. Now for the gripe, the sign outside stated they were open till 11. My fiancée & I showed up at 915 PM. I am surprised they sat us. For awhile this was the only Mexican Resturant in town, but in the last few years they've had a little competition. I've tried them all, have been all over the world and I still haven't found anything that compares to Tampicos! The burritos, enchiladas, nachos and of course margaritas can't be beat! I agree with the reviewers who said the salsa tastes much like Hunt's tomato sauce right from the can. The chicken tacos had no flavor, and if sour cream is desired, it will cost an additional $2.00 for a dollop. Received the worst service of my life there...our server wasn't to be seen anywhere and all that was there was 3 tables....then my daughter had asked her food be made to order to go after she brought out our food, nope that's not what happened so needless to say my daughter left with ice cold food...then we had been ready to leave for a good 10 minutes with money and credit card on the checks...we were trying to get out cuz our 8 month old was starting to get fussy...she finally came to pick up our checks but before cashing us out she stopped at a large table that wasn't even fully seated yet to take their order...I went over and took our checks from her and proceeded to cash out myself...idk what is going on with that place but it's steadily going down hill read more

Love Tampicos. Growing up in Ptown there weren't many options, but now living in Houston the Tex-Mex capital, Tampicos salsa is still my favorite! Always make a trip here when I'm in town. Love the banana margaritas too. read more

Tampico's (two locations in the Morgan City area) has always been the go to Mexican restaurant in this area. I grew up on Tampico's. There have been good and bad experiences through the years. I would say more good than bad. Went there last Friday with a large group (20 people). The chips and salsa were very good. I had the loaded burrito and it was excellent. I just got robbed . I ordered guacamole and apparently two olives lettuce and a half slice of tomato, what am i supposed to do with that lettuce have you ever eaten a piece of lettuce by itself-it sucks. The guac was slimy and just salty. I've never herd of olives on quac could be good but it wasn't even incorperated into the dish. I figured I'd get quac to not spend much money because I wasn't that hungry and was with friends. The guac was a whopping 10 dollars..it's a condiment.. my friend got a taco and a side of rice and it came out to 6 dollars which is reasonable but still not that great she said. Also my other pal got carrots and broccoli in there fajitas witch I've never seen but could be good however very slimy and oily I think they just put water on at the last second to make the fajitas steam and he walked out of the kitchen doors fast like the chef just plopped it on the serving platter and spanked the waiters booty. The waiter kept asking if the food was ok (it was not) I kept having to say things like "yes thank you" and "it's pretty good" in the process of getting quietly robbed by a tiny bowl of guac. I felt psychologically in prisond I wanted to cry out for help but all the waiter said when I mentioned the the silly pricing was "oh true it'll get ya..wtf get a back bone you know this place stinks. Tempicos is the Trojan horse of Mexican restraunts because it looks cool has this black steel leafing motif stuff lots of seating and big tvs lots of staff scuttling around busy working hard to ruin your day. read more
