I am not sure of Tamashii hasn't come around in a while or if I just stopped thinking about Tamashii, but they came to my workplace today and I tried them out. I was surprised to realize I hadn't reviewed them in 4 years. Tamashi essentially service white rice with a protein a sauce. That protein is mostly deep fried. They have two non meat options- tofu and cauliflower (ok that's not a protein, I know). Today I had them give me half of each. The tofu is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with decent flavor. The cauliflower was more flavorful because of the orange sweet sauce. They were both very good- I would get them again for sure! read more

Tamashii visited our office this week for the first time and it was also the first time I've had the opportunity to give them a try. I ordered the Crispy Chicken bowl and it was delicious; rice, slaw, and deep fried bites of chicken topped with yum yum sauce. I really wanted to try the pork, but it was sold out early. They also had a taco beef bowl and volcano beef bowl, but I thought the price was a little high for those bowls. Check out Tamashii food truck when you see them. We enjoyed some Japanese Soul bowls recently and want more. There were just 2 entrees tonight on menu, one was crispy chicken and the other a pork curry. Plus an appetizer of edamame. Wow, all were so good. My favorite was the pork curry, a breaded pork cutlet (sliced), served over moist sticky rice with a mellow curry sauce. Slight sweetness of some pickle veggies on top. The smell was wonderful and it tasted just as good. We were surprised by the cold edamame, which were seasoned with sesame oil and seeds, loved them. So use to it being served hot, but the cold were nutty and delicious. The chef said his truck is new and he's out to make it known. He wants to share his childhood memories of comfort food. I tried this place for the first time because it seemed like a lot of people like it, but it was not good. 13$ for a small plate of food was not worth it at all. The crispy chicken didn't taste like anything but salt. The yum yum sauce didn't add too much to the flavor either. There was a little bit of slaw that didn't really make sense with the rest of the dish. I'm not impressed and had better dishes at other restaurants for half this price. Five stars for food truck (4.5). Unlike any other food truck food I've had - good, hot, and quick. We got spring rolls, crispy chicken bowl, and shrimp bowl. The sauce on the chicken was great and a good amount of chicken with rice and raw cabbage. It was my favorite. The spring rolls were solid with plenty of duck sauce. The weakest was the shrimp just ok. We ordered and had food in five mins. It was still hot when we got back to the house. This food truck was at my job (Booz Allen Hamilton) today for lunch. I've had food from them before and they didn't fail me again. I've gotten the crispy chicken bowl in the past and it was delightful. I got the yum yum shrimp bowl this time around. The crispy shrimp in this bowl was tender and big! It was great flavors in the shrimp from the sauce they were coated in. The rice was just how I like too: soft and sticky. The cabbage was fresh and had a nice crunch to it. I'm so sad. I used to go to this food truck all the time at the MUSC greenway, their chicken was so perfectly crispy and flavorful. I went today and was SO disappointed. This chicken tastes and looks like freezer chicken strips cut into pieces with a dab of yum yum sauce and slaw. I gave an extra star just because the owners/employees are always nice. Dis een it. Sorry. I had there food 3 times. I will say they well connected because they show up at multiple functions. But food een good. My opinion, food trucks all about versatlilty. All resteraunts but especially food trucks. Its not just a convenience aspect but I look for things that separate them from restaurants. The food on the truck should be so good..... SO BUSSING... that you should be able to picture in a restaurant. Close ya eyes.... picture getting in your car to drive to a spot to get some clumpy rice layered with "raw" cabbage (da hell) and your choice of meat. That being shrimp (great value quality) Asian ground beef ( spicy sloppy joe with sesame oil and ginger flavoring) , fried chicken (too much panko breading it seems) . Ate a lot of asian in my day and never heard of raw unseasoned cabbage complimenting any dish. I seen unsatisfied customers errtime I see them. Cute couple serving. They have chemistry and look good together. I couldnt eat my ground beef bowl til later that evening and by then it was totaled. The grease had overcame the rice. A orange congealed mess I tell you. They should re invent. Maybe do a asian kimchi with the cabbage. Food is missing flavor and creativity. Better brand of sushi rice in my opinion. Tamashii was set up on Grand Oaks Blvd in West Ashley the other day, so my wife and I popped in for a quick bite. She ordered the crunchy chicken bowl, and I went with the pork. Service was quick and friendly. My wife enjoyed her crunchy chicken, but my pork honestly tasted like a shake n bake pork chop with a bit of sauce on it. The bowl came with sticky rice and cabbage / lettuce that was shredded, but there wasn't much to that either, and it was rather bland and plain. Don't get me wrong, I ate the entire bowl, but it just felt like something was missing. I would try them again in the future, just to see if it was a one time thing or if that is a normal bowl prep. read more

To be fair, this reflects my own preferences, rather than any failing of the food truck. I got the miso tofu bowl and it came out very quick but it was very soft tofu. I'm much more a fan of the fried tofu with a crisper outside. I also felt the dish was mostly tofu and rice and the other elements (shredded veggies) just didn't really come through as much. The sauce was good and flavorful it just fell a little short and wasn't my favorite form of tofu. That being said, a friend got the yum yum fries and I had a single one and wow, that yum yum sauce. I wish I could have bought a side of it and put it all over everything. It was AMAZING. I wish there was a vegetarian dish with yum yum sauce. I think the tofu dish fell short for me but based on the glorious fry and sauce they have potential (please serve me something with that sauce on it!). I also saw they sometimes have Dragonballs. I didn't get a chance to try them but I'd go back and give them a shot. If you're going for the tofu just be aware of the style. If you're going for anything else, get the yum yum sauce however you can. read more

I had the Crispy Chicken Bowl - I was nervous when I saw that it was served with plain white rice as opposed to a fried rice of sorts but let me tell you, you wouldn't want any more flavor added to these delicious bowls! Serious perfection! Rice was cooked perfectly - not too softy or mushy. As you can tell by the title, the chicken is already crispy but the crunch from the little cabbage salad they put on top of the rice adds the perfect amount of freshness to the entire meal. I got a side of sriracha to dip the chicken in but it really didn't need it, the yum yum sauce they drizzle lightly over the chicken is plenty to keep you happy but I liked the extra head the sriracha brought. Coworker got the volcano fries. I'm kind of sad that the crispy chicken bowl filled me up so much because I definitely wanted to be able to eat more of her fries, they are perfectly seasoned and the beef they use is scrumptious. I orders the volcano bowl and I underestimate how spicy it was (in a good way)! First timer but will definitely order again. Food truck in my community tonight. Ordering online was very easy and they had good modifications on their menu software. (EX: sauce on side or no onions) Didn't get the pickles on the fries as listed but that's fine, plenty extra on the pork cutlet bowl to spread the pickle love around. Yum Yum and Spicy Garlic sauce were so good I paid the extra $1 to get another side of each. Prices could be better but I understand we're all trying to make it in this crazy world and I didn't have to shop or cook so it's all worth it. Will recommend to others! read more

Went to this truck because it was in ORR in cane bay today. I already can't wait to have it again! I got there as soon as the event started so I was about third in line. The woman taking orders was very friendly and kept the line moving quickly. The food also came out fairly quick. I ordered the chili glazed shrimp. So incredibly delicious. I was sad when I was done with my bowl! The chili glaze was the perfect amount of sweet and tangy! The shrimp had a crunch to them and was scrumptious. The shrimp was on a bed of white rice that was very sticky but once I mixed the shrimp in it, the texture was perfect. There was raw cabbage on the side that I also mixed in that just made the bowl even better! I asked them to put the yum yum sauce on my bowl because it didn't come with it. I'm not sure what's in the sauce but it was amazing! I hear a lot of good things about the chicken bowl so I'll definitely be trying that next time! read more

The crispy chicken rice bowl and the pork curry rice bowls were fantastic, both contained generous portions of expertly prepared protein over warm, sticky, and comforting rice. My girlfriend loved the tofu bowl which was also gluten free. The beef bowl was too good! I actually went back for another one at the end but they were sold out!!
