Very pretty restaurant, would definitely recommend sitting in one of those booths by the window if you can. Bread is AMAZING, I got the yogurt kabab dish, very well spiced and flavorful. Would come again, baklava is solid as well!

Nicely decorated, authentic Turkish restaurant. We got seated quickly for an early dinner, but they do ask for reservations, so I suggest making one just in case on OpenTable. The waiter seemed stand-off ish and a bit rude to be honest. He was impatient and didn't seem to like it when I asked the prices for the specials. It took a long time for him to actually ask us what we wanted to take our order, which was a bit annoying. The table bread was pillowy on the inside and very crunchy on the outside. The sauce they gave us also paired very well with the bread. I got the Adana kabob, which was nicely plated. I thought the portion was quite small at first, but it was a perfect size in the end. The ground lamb was filled with spices, and the lamb was marinated and cooked nicely. The rice was a miss though, it barely had any sort of flavor. For dessert, we tried the baklava which was pretty good. Overall, pretty good experience for my first time trying Turkish food!

We had reservations here on a busy Saturday evening. Our table was ready when we arrived and it was a cozy one towards the back. It was a packed house and my only complaint of the night was the noise, but it would not deter me from returning. We ordered some cocktails off the menu and both of us were pleased with our selection. My boyfriend's lamb shank was absolutely perfect! So exquisitely tender and seasoned to complement the flavor of the lamb... this is the sort of dish I would return for over and over. I believe it is only on the menu fridays and Saturdays. My lamb platter was also delicious and our lamb dumplings with dipping sauce were fantastic. The woman next to us said the Branzino was excellent and I saw many people ordering and enjoying it. We took home some Baklava to enjoy and when you go here do not miss out on this perfect treat even if you're stuffed... it's just as perfect leftover. This is a great spot for any occasion and I can't wait to eat here again.

An interesting Turkish restaurant in Chapel Hill. Conveniently located across the street from public parking this unassuming restaurant adorned in wood and darker tones serves unique fare. With rugs hanging from the walls this restaurant is a departure from many other local restaurants. We came on a Saturday night for dinner with reservations. The restaurant was packed and the waiters stretched thin. Took about 10 minutes to get a menu (one wasn't on the table when we where seated, just a wine menu). Once we got the menu it took another 10 minutes to get our drinks and order placed. The drinks where interesting and delicious. Once the food arrived it was tasty and hearty. Temperature was on point and we left stuffed. If you are in the mood for Turkish food this is the place to go. But I am not sure I would return again otherwise.

Came here with my friend on a rainy week day. I love the food here! Love Mediterranean food! The dishes were super delicious. Very rich, creamy, and tasty. I loved all the dishes I got here! Lamb shank was not a disappointment at all. But low key lamb shank never disappoints me at any med restaurants. Hummus was fresh and delicious. Service was great. My waiter stopped by multiple times to fill our drinks and asked for feedbacks. Restaurant was well decorated and with ample space. Loved the experience. Can't wait to come back!

Never had Turkish food before, but now I'm a fan. Love it! Came to Chapel Hill for a meeting and dined here with colleagues. Enjoyed a couple bottles of wine and most of their shareable appetizers and main course. Loved the braised lamb shank and whole baked fish. Also loved all the fresh and colorful ingredients. Wonderful place to wine and dine in small or large groups. Would definitely recommend a for all comers! Turkish food is delicious!

Excellent Mediterranean Turkish food & equally excellent service! The surroundings are lovely as well. The food was so good we didn't get a chance to take pics because we inhaled everything! The meat manti appetizer was delicious (we got a large order), typically order a choban salad Which was fresh & crisp, the slow cooked lamb shank was melt in your mouth flavorful, the salmon shis, & Adana Shis all perfectly cooked & deliciously seasoned. Highly recommend.

Love the outdoor seating area when the weather permits but the inside decor is just as great. My rec is the Half Chicken with Garlic Lemon Potatoes. The chicken is seasoned perfectly with a great balance of smokiness. The Potatoes are quite possibly some of the best I've ever had!

The…read moreatmosphere tends to be the draw-- it's decorated well, there are some fun foods (flaming cheese?!), and there tends to be a Greek dance train on weekend evenings. I went with a group of 6 adults this past week and realized that the atmosphere no longer outweighs the other nits for us. The restaurant was maybe 80% full, but our servers couldn't find the time to check on us. We had a bottle of wine served, and maybe 15 minutes later needed more wine. We finally got our server's attention and we got more wine. Once our entrees came out, our server and wine guy never came back to our table. We even told them we would like more wine but they never came back with it. We would've bought 4-5 bottles of wine that evening had someone come back to check on us. Instead, we just sipped our waters until we were ready to leave. The food was honestly mediocre all around. The lamb was overcooked and inedible, the eggplant dish was over salted, etc. We liked our dips platter, but it came with a tiny bowl of pita and like three pieces of celery for $24, so most of the dips went uneaten. If someone had asked if we needed more pita or vegetables we would have said yes, even if we had to pay for it. But nobody did. I could go into more details (mansplaining and some belittling all around), but it's not really important. We realized there are restaurants in Chapel Hill that we'd rather visit in the future. I hope Kipo's is able to make some changes because we really love it. But in the meantime we're going to give it a break.

It's just so beautiful with soaring ceilings, enormous plants, unique lighting fixtures and exposed brick, all making you feel like you're dining in a sultry Mediterranean courtyard, one that is climate-controlled, (appreciated on a blazing hot afternoon). The have a lovely shaded patio, too, if you really are looking to dine outside. The menu is also a sight to behold and there is something for every taste and diet (GF, Vegan/veg all noted on the menu). There's so many enticing vegan options! I ordered the hummus which was very good and a phenomenal fattoush salad made next level with those pickled grapes-- unlike any fattoush salad I'd ever had before. I appreciated the wine and cocktail lists, although I was not ready to imbibe at that time of day. Some great offerings there. And I also want to give kudos to our excellent waitress and the entire staff that thanked us and said goodbye when we left. It was just the perfect touch of hospitality.

Anyone been around to remember the days you had to cart yourself out to Raleigh to buy Arab /…read moreMiddle Eastern groceries? Long gone are those days thanks to this place! Excellent selection of Arab / Middle Eastern / Mediterranean / Asian goods. They have a great variety of both the standard staples, such as chick peas, bread, seasonings, yogurts, cheeses, frozen goods, and other raw or prepared ingredients, but also have more nuanced items you might not have seen in a long time had you grown up elsewhere and moved to the US. I don't have to go and order things online anymore. Additionally they have a butcher that has fresh meats that are also halal if you're Muslim. I haven't ever had their meats, and am not Muslim, but I know where to go if I need lamb or goat on special occasions. They don't really have produce beyond some shelf stable items, but that excluded, it's pretty much an oasis. Finally, the store is kept clean, well stocked, and organized. I've never been in there with items I need missing. They recently did a facelift on the front of the store and it looks awesome, very modern and inviting. The owners and their sons are super friendly, extremely kind, even offering to special order things I ask about, and are always in a helpful / cheerful mood! Would HIGHLY recommend stopping in to anyone looking for things they need, or just wanting to see what a Middle Eastern store looks like!

It brings me back to my baby vegan days when I was broke and hungry and all I really cared about in life was the welfare of animals. A little has changed since then. I'm thankfully less broke (good thing, because eating vegan these days is usually expensive) but I still care deeply for the welfare of animals and I still crave a good Middle Eastern platter. My husband ate here regularly when he lived in Durham decades ago. The owner proudly refused to serve ketchup, even with fries and I deeply respect that. If the flavor is good, you don't need it (plus I find it in general to be a weak condiment. Give me hot sauce or give me death). I ordered a vegan bowl, though it is more of a hearty platter with hummus/babaganoush and beans over a bed of romaine and quinoa. It involved some of the best hummus/baba that I've ever had, dreamy dips with perfect flavor and generous amounts of tahini. The eggplant was sweet and roasted, not a hint of bitterness. I don't even really like quinoa, but I couldn't resist it here, as it was seasoned perfectly. Service was so dang nice (they were expertly training a new employee and it was cool to hear a little about the process). I just love this place and will return whenever I'm back in Durham.
