I went to Talecris on Saturday 01/14/17 with hopes of becoming a new donor, but my attempt was unsuccessful. The facility opened at 8:00 am and I arrived around 8:35 am. When I walked in I was instructed to sign in. I asked if new donors sign the same list as everyone else and was advised no, but only after I signed my name. Grrr!!! Anyway, I asked where I should check in as a new donor and I was advised that they were not accepting anymore new donors. I looked around the waiting area and saw 2 people sitting. Considering the fact that I am not new to donating plasma, I'm just new to their facility, it made no sense that they would cut new donors off 30 minutes after opening and with only 2 people waiting. I asked why and was advised that they accept new donors according to the amount of staff they have. Then came the BS!
I asked when they planned on reopening the new donor acceptance and was asked to come back tomorrow. My immediate thought was "You have 2 people waiting and it's only 8:40 am. The process for new donors only takes 3-4 hours. Why would I have to come back tomorrow?" I then asked "Will you be accepting new donors later today? Since there are only 2 people waiting and with the process only taking 3-4 hours they should be done way before closing; right?" I was then advised that I should call back after 1:00 pm to see if I can come back then. I asked if I could be placed on a call list and was advised that I would need to call. I let them know I would call back.
Considering the fact that I work 2 jobs and my time is very limited, I really wanted to get this started and have my donation days established as I cannot make it during the week and had to work the following day. So, I sacrificed my morning and postponed some pretty lengthy projects like painting my new apartment because once I got started, it would be messy and inconvenient to stop to go donate plasma. So, I ran a few errands and then called around 12:00 pm to check the status. i was told to cal back at 1:00 pm.
I called back at 1:00 pm and guess what!!! I was told that the medical staff was gone for the day and that I would have to come back another day. The gentleman on the phone advised me that 3 people called off and that is why they only accepted 3 people that morning. I then asked if someone was supposed to come in at 1:00 pm and didn't? I was advised that no one was scheduled to come in at 1:00 pm. I then asked him why would I be told to call back at 1 o'clock when it was known that there would be No Medical Staff on Duty at that time? His response was "RIGHT!" Talk about pissed!!!!
My entire morning was thrown down the drain because I was LIED to by Talecris a few morning staffers! They completely wasted hours of my time on my only off day for the week because they didn't have the decency and professionalism in them to just be honest and say they were short staffed and would be unable to handle anymore donors for the entire day! This has left such a negative impression on me that I am considering driving an entire hour to the plasma center I used to donate with instead of going back to this place which is just 10 minutes away.
