This is still a fabulous shop even though it is no longer in a cottage by the creek... my go-to place to buy home accents, wedding gifts, holiday ornaments, and gifts for girls and women. The owner is filled with creative ideas.

When you open the door, you meet a perfectly delightful and friendly shop owner. There is a wonderful variety of merchandise that would please a diverse array of shoppers....jewelry, clothing, kitchen items, large assortment of beautiful French tablecloths, home decor and much more. I bought two great necklaces made from Tagua seeds from Ecuador. I just love them and have received many compliments when I wear them. They are so attractive and unique. I also purchased a gorgeous rectangular French tablecloth in blues and yellows and some cute kitchen towels. In my shopping I also acquired a stylish top with a lacy edge and a fishnet type top to go with it. The shopkeeper also has many artistic wind chimes for your patio. Mine has a metallic dragonfly and colorful beads. If you can't make it to her shop, she also has a stall at the awesome Des Moines Farmers Market every Saturday for 6 months of the year. That's another thing that you should definitely experience! What a great little shop, full of such interesting things! Wish it was in my city!

My brother and I went out of our way to shop here on our recent visit home exclusively because of this Platos' Instagram posts- we saw so many great new stocked items, quality brands and huge selection and had to go back! It had been a while since we'd been in, and let me tell you - the selection and quality of this Plato's is way better than the ones we've been to in MN. This store is so HUGE, bright and airy, and they have it organized perfectly so you know exactly where to find things. We didn't sell this time, but there was literally a line the minute they opened for folks to sell, and more kept coming. I've seen them end buying early on some days and announce it online because I'm sure they get so many interested in selling. Sellers, remember: they don't HAVE to take your clothes, and they are picky for a reason! Don't expect to make your money back on what you bought years ago and then wore a ton :) I found some great pairs of shoes: cute clogs for $12, sandals for $8, like new Nikes for $30, and a sports tank for $6. My brother found a pair of brand new Adidas for $35 and a tee for $6. I could have spent way longer there looking through the clothes but we were on a bit of a time crunch. Give yourself 1-2+ hours here to look through everything! I loved their Instagram rack of things they'd featured, and they had so many great shoes, bags, swimsuits, and sportswear that interested me. Highly recommend - and can't recommend shopping secondhand enough! Reduce fast fashion and clothing waste, give items a new life, and save yourself money :)

Whether you're decluttering your pantry, revamping your closet, or finding clever ways to organize your craft supplies, you're likely to find what you need and more. Exceptional selection, helpful and friendly staff, and well-organized and inspiring displays. A mecca for organization, but be mindful of the pricing... The Container Store is a fantastic resource for anyone serious about organizing their space. The selection is unparalleled and the staff is generally helpful. The store itself is a pleasure to browse. However, be prepared for potentially higher prices compared to other big box stores. Have a plan in mind before walking in...to avoid possibly feeling overwhelmed by the abundance of choices! Be sure to ask about their rewards program to save on future purchases!

I lived near the…read moreWalnut Creek branch for years, and since then I find an occasional urban area (like West Des Moines) that has one. I'm naturally attracted to merchandise that can be used to store stuff. At the same time, Gayle would advise that I buy less "stuff", thus minimizing any further container purchases. So here I was in West Des Moines, primarily to look for luggage at REI. And much to my pleasant surprise was this Container Store, just an easy stroll away. I wandered around for a while imagining the possibilities. I ended up with some hangers (which for some reason we always need) and a couple cool storage boxes. Sorry Gayle. :)
