We were passing through Düsseldorf for half a day and saw they're known for their Japanese food, so we decided to check out Takumi! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. AJITAMA TONKOTSU RAMEN: I'm a tonkotsu person and almost always order this over other types of ramen. Not sure if I was just so severely deprived of Asian food, but I felt Takumi's tonkotsu ramen ranked pretty high on my list! And coming from SoCal as well as having lived down the street from both major Japanese food hubs in Los Angeles, that's saying a lot! Good amount of pork, the noodles were cooked to the perfect texture, and the broth was rich without being overly salty. I don't usually enjoy other types of ramen so I can't speak for those items from their menu. But I slurped my entire bowl of tonkotsu ramen dry! KARAAGE: Large pieces with crispy exterior and super juicy interiors! I wasn't expecting much but in the end I was super happy we ordered this. Overall, amazing tonkotsu ramen located in Düsseldorf's Little Tokyo.

I got the one recommended by my waiter, the creamy veggie miso Ramen, and the lower right corner of the menu. This one is not spicy. Next time I come, I will try one of the spicy ones. I got the lychee soda, which is a little too subtle for my taste, but I find that it grows on you. They also have Kirin on draft as well as bottles of Heineken and a 0% Heineken. And of course they have green tea as well as the usual stuff. Ok, the food: these are freshly-made japanese noodles. That means there's a wait for your food, and in my experience, it was substantial. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. This experience may be a one-off, as the waiter apologized for the wait and brought me a free refill of the lychee soda. The noodles were fine, a substantial meal with lots of vegetables in the soup. I added some soy sauce as it was pretty bland. Next time I would ask for some of their black garlic oil. I would come back, if only to try the spicy dish (they describe the spicy sauce as "numbing"!), but I think this place would be great for meat eaters.

What can a London-based chain restaurant tell me about Japanese food/ramen? Very little…read more It's my second time at this location (The Outlet in Roermond, The Netherlands) and it wasn't any better than the first. Walked in just before their lunch rush and ordered the Shirodashi ramen. Place was clean, trendy deco and the music was hip. First, my ramen did not resemble the photo on the menu/website. Mine looked haphazardly constructed. The pork belly looked like it was tossed in instead of displayed. Dish temperature could have been a bit hotter as well. Secondly, the broth could have been richer and deeper in taste. Perhaps its saltiness compensated for the blandness of the stock/broth. They should lose that uncomfortable wooden ladle contraption and replace it with a proper Chinese/Japanese soup spoon. I want to like it but it's not happening.

The service was really friendly and attentive and spoke perfect English. We were immediately seated and got a table outside at the small street terrace. The menu has several starters, ramens, currys, noodles and teppanyaki. For each meal it's possible to chose the type of noodles. We tried the Gyoza which come with a special, a bit spicy sauce. They were good, however not crunchy at all. For the mains we took the Shirodashi Ramen and the Seared Nuoc Cham Tuna. The ramen had a tasty chicken/miso broth and plenty of toppings. The egg was however hard boiled. The Tuna was not overcooked and was juicy. It was accompanied with quinoa and seasonal steamed vegetables. Taken that this is a chain and a restaurant in a shopping mall it was good value for the money and a good pit stop before continuing the shopping.
