But it's more than that, too - it's also a holistic spa. I stopped to take care of myself the weekend after Thanksgiving and really enjoyed my experience! The spa menu is is varied - facials, microdermabrasion facials, lymphatic drainage facial, buccal facial,...! They also do some work with crystals, Reiki, and sound baths, which isn't my thing but may be really helpful to others. I had the manual lymphatic drainage facial - which is a quick facial followed by a very thorough face massage intended to address puffiness and dullness in the skin. I enjoyed my service very much. The facial was very relaxing, and the space (minimalist, clean, and bright) added to that experience. I live in Baltimore, where prices for just about everything are much lower than in DC, so Take Care was a bit of a splurge compared to the facials I get at home. But it was a treat, and it really did feel like I was taking extra good care of myself during the stressful holiday season. Woke up yesterday to a bad episode of my face being red, splotchy and inflamed as it has been on/off for months. Thinking it was notorious DC allergies, I've been trying everything to alleviate the burning sensation: aloe straight from the plant, hydrocortisone, even oral steroids. Nothing really helped except petroleum jelly, which didn't cure the problem, but at least provided a break from the pain. Because of how bad it looked, I was going to un-RSVP for the Yelp event at Take Care. But given it was the day-of, I couldn't and the last thing any Yelper wants to do is not show up for an event! Then it occurred to me...Take Care...natural skincare shop...what better place to be during a skin emergency?! As they say, everything happens exactly as its supposed to. So off I went sans makeup in all my red, puffy glory, hoping Take Care had something to take care of me. The store shone like a beacon from Wisconsin Avenue. Bright, white, clean. After checking in, I immediately made a beeline for the owner. She told me what she suspected the issue was (and confirmed with a co-worker) and showed me two products she thought might help. One I declined because its first ingredient is aloe, which had burned my skin when I applied it previously. The other was an organic, natural eczema healing balm. I was excited about this one because I had tried zinc and it did seem to provide some relief. But it's white and I couldn't very well walk around looking a lifeguard everyday. My husband and I went to dinner after the event and while sitting in the restaurant, the burning sensation started again. I grabbed my balm, went into the ladies room to apply and instantly felt relief. At bedtime, I applied again. I wasn't convinced of the balm's effectiveness until the next morning. I woke up today and although the symptoms weren't 100% gone, they were markedly minimized. The redness around my lips and nose was barely noticeable, my eyelids were now a light shade of pink rather than flaming red. (Then again, I was conservative with applying around my eyes for safety sake.) The balm seems like it will last a very long time. I have used it multiple times now and it doesn't look as though I have used it at all. A very small amount has already started to work wonders. Admittedly, I cringed at the $52 price tag. But as my husband pointed out, if it works, it's worth more than that. He is right. I have been suffering with this on and off for months. I've avoided going to the doctor because I suspect they will put me on steroids again, which I would prefer not to take. And, if I understand correctly, Take Care has a return for credit policy if you are unhappy with your purchase. (Don't quote me on that.) Thank you ladies at Take Care! I am so glad I found you! The filtered light, spa wrap and hair wrap, and under the knee pillow made for an extra relaxing experience. I visited Take Care for a yelp event just the other day and I really liked this organic beauty shop. I love finding out about new local businesses and, of course, I love supporting them. I had a lot of fun at the event and appreciated having a second to think about my self care. There are a ton of selfcare items for everyone! I saw scrubs, masks, deoderant, beard oil, face wash, face/body mists (Vitruvi "Still" which I bought - $24 for 1oz), pregnancy ointments, and diaper rash and onsie's for babies. I have been trying to be more cognizant of what I need for self care and I have been using the mist at night before i go to bed and I really think it's keeping me calm and relaxed. So this was a great store to be wandering in. There are a lot of fun and interesting options but the biggest drawback is how expensive a lot of the items are. This is definitely a self care heaven but given some of the price points it limits who will be shopping there and who can also have access to organic self-care beauty products. Super wonderful energy, and great information in advance about what to expect (from smells to overall process). She also noticed when I started to get cold and adjusted the temperature after checking with me--she was really in tune with me. This wasn't an "extraction/super science-y" facial, but that's not a bad thing. The products are excellent, and felt amazing. And I really loved the extra attention on my whole self--making sure I was present, breathing, and relaxed. Highly recommend Take Care if you want to pamper yourself in a safe environment. Eric was super thorough learning about my needs and explained the very detailed COVID safety procedures. I felt very comfortable the entire time and have never had a facialist tailor the facial that specifically to my skin/lifestyle. I wanted to check this out for a while, mainly because I've been trying out different natural deodorants to find one that works, but also because I'm trying to use natural makeup and body products generally. I dropped in to find a deodorant and the owner Becky was great about giving me recommendations and information on ingredients. I purchased a deodorant and a curly hair styler that seemed good too. The store itself is decorated beautifully and there is a section to the back of the store where you can test makeup. The owner is really knowledgeable about skincare and will be able to answer all of your questions, even ones like "Hey, I don't have a skincare regimen. What should I be doing for my skin?" Many of the products offered are vegan, all are made in the US, and none use animal testing, which are all very important to me. The owner is great at providing individualized information. Take Care doesn't carry a CVS brand like Olay that is mass produced by P&G with questionable chemicals and ingredients and suspect sustainability practices. And just down a few blocks on M Street Blue Mercury sells La Prairie creams for $400 a jar--so let's just all get on the same page here with the location, product offerings, community and a completely reasonable pricing structure. Georgetown is arguably one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the DMV. Owners Becky and Trevor are just complete dolls and Lily "the shop baby" makes popping in for a visit or to try a new lipstick shade that much more enjoyable and personal. A much needed place in D.C. as I have made the switch to using only products with natural ingredients after battling cystic acne that started showing up in my early 30's. I have sensitive combination skin so it took me a few tries sampling different cleansers, serums, and moisturizers that worked. I highly recommend anything from OSEA and I love the Pai Rosehip oil.
